District Governor visits Waunakee-Westport Lions and Waunakee Lioness Clubs
Resplendent in his red sport coat, District Governor Neil Winchell was a guest at the November regular club meeting. In addition to making some important and very significant awards, DG Neil inspired club members with a message that emphasized the work of Lions International and the importance of each individual member to the local, district and international organizations. The importance of bringing into the organization new, young and enthusiastic prospects for membership was emphasized. DG Neil pointed out that our Lion District 27-D1 is a leader in Wisconsin Lionism but that we need to continue to grow both in terms of membership and programs. He related a personal story that illustrated when he "became a Lion", a time that does not necessarily coincide with new member registration. It can occur when a member experiences a significant personal achievment such as delivering eye tissue to some fortunate recipient, accepting the gratitude of a parent whose child has received needed care as a result of vision screening, or when a special need has been fulfilled for some deserving person.
Melvin Jones Fellowships were presented to two very deserving club members: Larry Gehri and Tom Larson

A Melvin Jones Fellowship is the highest award to be given to a Lions Club member by fellow Lions for long term and significant contribution to the Club. It is with great pride that we recognize these two outstanding Lions.
