VISION SCREENING
The first Vision Screening of the new year took place on January 4,5 & 6 at Peace Lutheran Church in Waunakee in conjunction with the Waunakee Community School District annual Early Childhood Screening program.
Using the new digital PlusoptiX camera/computer system 156 children were screened. There were 17 referrals to eye care providers for professional evaluation.
A total of 80 hours of volunteerism by 6 Lionss and 4 Lioness contributed to the success of the project. It was a learning experience for all as the new, highly sophisticated, screening camera required some adjustments in the logistics and management of the project including the environment in which the screening took place. Wauakee-Westport Lions Club has purchased one of the new cameras at a cost of near $8000. The system includes a hand-held digital camera which feeds to computer and laser printer combination. The system is fast and provides a wealth of information that will be useful to area eye care professionals.
Please enjoy a few photos of the project:

As a reward for their cooperation, each child was
offered a Tootsie Roll. A child complained that the
roll was "bent". Lioness Bev offered to "straigten
them out".
