West Penn Township Lions

WestPenn Township Lions Club was chartered on April 21, 1948.  The first major project was the electrification of the 12 one-room schoolhouses in the township.  The members followed that by clearing land and building structures to create the West Penn Community Park which they continue to use for summer meetings, chicken BBQ's and Senior Fun Day.  The club sponsored Little Schuylkill Lions Club in 1958 and Mahoning Township Lions Club in 1959.  The club also sponsored the West Penn Lioness Club in 1976.  While those charter members are all deceased, there are two sons and a granddaughter of the original members and many of there relatives still in the club.

The club has been a leader in Lionism with a Past International Director, eight Past District Governors, one deceased PDG.  The West Penn Lions are proud to have been one of the first model clubs during Campaign Sight II and one of the largest contributors in  Multiple District 14.

The West Penn Lions participate  monthly in "Feeding the Hungry" by supporting several struggling families in our township.  On March 13th we are  holding our largest fund raising event of the year; a basket bingo held at the Mahoning Ambulance Building in Lehighton.  Over 30 filled Longaberger baskets will be awarded to lucky winners as they participates in over 20 bingo games and raffles.  Most admission tickets for our bingo areby  pre-sale but there will be a  limited number of tickets available for walk-in participants.   Our community Egg Hunt will be Sunday March 20th at the Andreas Sporting Club, 1:30 PM.
