Tena koutou katoa, greetings everyone

The Whangarei Hatea Lions Club, commonly known as Hatea Lions, was chartered in 2007.  It maintains a mixed gender membership of around 20 with a majority of women and includes some couples.  Our club is a Registered Charity, registration number CC26569.

We are a dedicated group of people helping our community while at the same time enjoying the fun and fellowship our membership provides. Visit us on Facebook http://facebook.com/HateaLionsClub/

Our priority is to serve.  Even though we are a relatively small club we annually exceed well over 1,000 hours of community service in an excess of 60 service activities.  From visiting elderly and lonely people, or hosting them to an afternoon tea, being a carparking attendant at a local tourist destination, operating barbeques at Relay for Life, helping restore community gardens after flood damage, time keeping at sporting events for people with intellectual disability, or cooking meals for families who have a child undergoing treatment for cancer – these are some examples of how we help.

Our humble club has raised and distributed $35,500 over the last 5 years.  During that time fifty eight community organizations and individuals have benefited for our grants and donations.  We support many youth and health initiatives.  Amongst the host of worthy recipients some regulars are Camp Quality, Women’s Refuge, Salvation Army Foodbank, R Tucker Thompson, Brain Injury children and many more.  A recent major joint project with Whangarei District Council, and local Health Board was the construction of gym equipment on the Hatea river loop walk.
