Meetings

From the Yuma Sun.

Recently, the Quartermaster Lions were asked by the Southwest Regional Cooperative to help raise funds for a 17-year-old student here in Yuma for a visit with an eye specialist in Phoenix.

As it turned out, the young man needed immediate surgery for a detached retina, which meant more funding. The appointment was on a Monday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, I spoke with many folks who could help us find the way to help this student. On Wednesday evening, I started e-mailing Lions Clubs in the state and by 9 p.m. we had enough pledged to follow through with the surgery.

Many thanks and kudos for the quick response to the following: Quartermaster Lions of Yuma, Sun City Mid-Week Bells, Peoria Lions, Phoenix North Phoenix Lions, the Sun City Lions Foundation, and locally the Rotary Club of Yuma and the Elks of Yuma.

The surgery was performed and could not have been done without all the help received. Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation was an intricate force behind the surgery and getting things started.
