In Memory of Lion Gary Peterson

We recently lost a very beloved and active member of the community. Lion Gary was a passionate supporter of the club in every aspect. He will be dearly missed. The Barrington Lions Club has made a donation in his name to the American Lung Assocation. Our thoughts and sincerest condolences to the Peterson family.

Candy Days, Camp Lions and Leader Dogs

Candy Day is the premiere fundraiser for the services and programs provided to the hearing & visually impaired in Illinois. Over 50% of the funds required to operate the 14 programs and services to the hearing & visually impaired directed by our Lions of Illinois Foundation (LIF) are funded through this single campaign and the Barrington Lions are happy to support them. Through the hard labor and dedication of Lions in Illinois the LIF now serves not only the visually impaired, but the hearing impaired, and provides Camp Lions, a summer residential camp, especially designed for children with sight and hearing loss, Camp Helen Keller for Adults with vision and hearing loss, and Illinois and Leader Dogs for the Blind.

For more information, visit the Foundation’s website: https://lionsofillinoisfoundation.org/candy-day/

We support the Barrington Township Food Pantry

Presenting a check to Patrice Miller of the Barrington Township Food Pantry are Barrington Lions Brian Cecola, John Loomis and Kevin Adler. When the Lions were at the Barrington Hills Are Alive festival, visitors made donations and the Barrington Lions Club matched them and in turn donated them to the food pantry as soon as hearing there was a critical need.

Lion Glenn delivers 2,322 eyeglasses!

Here is Lion Glenn Engelhardt, chair of the Barrington Lions Club Sight & Sound Committee.
Throughout the year, he organizes the collection of used eyeglasses and delivers them to the Lions of Illinois Foundation. The glasses are then sent to a Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center (LERC) where volunteers clean, sort by prescription strength and package them.

Recycled glasses are then distributed to people in need in lower-income countries. Doctors of optometry, vision technicians and volunteers screen individuals to determine the eyewear they need.

Thank you to Chessie's Restaurant

Here is Jim Nelson (left), owner of the Barrington Ice House - how fortunate it was to gather at his Ice House Chessies’s restaurant for our Lions meetings all these years! Director Curt Pulkrabek (right) thanks him with a Barrington Lions desk trophy, a Certificate of Service, and a Lions Hug for Jim’s commitment to our club. The Nelsons have helped so many organizations in our town with their contributions to charity. We thank them very much.

Camp Lions prepare to celebrate Diamond Jubilee!

Camp Lions opened it's doors in the Chicago area sixty years ago in 1957. This award-winning Camp Program is still one of kind, combining both blind/ partially sighted & deaf/hard of hearing youth campers under one banner - inclusion!

Camp Lions for Youth has never been about differences, but about the similarities of campers. They all need inspiration, positive guidance, and enough challenging opportunities to explore their full potentials. Camp Lions has always been about the dream of growing through fun & friendship, and will never stop being so.

Watch us as we celebrate 60 years of youthful excellence in 2017! Camp Lions is free for campers to attend due to the generosity and hard work of our Illinois Lions, Lioness, Leo Clubs. Plus the support of friends of Camp Lions of Illinois for Blind and/or Deaf Youth!
