Donations made to Turkey/Syria Earthquake Disaster

Conditions in Turkey

The Turkish people have begun to refer to the recent earthquake that struck their country and Syria as “The Greatest Disaster of the Century.” It has been followed by several large aftershocks. 15 million people in the South and Southeast regions of Turkey have been affected throughout 10 provinces. Cities have been destroyed in a region that already hosts the highest population of Syrian refugees and Kurds. CNN reported this afternoon that the death toll had surpassed 23,000 with many more homeless and in the dead of winter. To date we have reports of one Lion and his family dying in their collapsed home in this disaster.

Our Turkish Lions Response:

The Lions of Turkey have formed two committees. One to manage LCIF’s recently approved Major Catastrophe grant, and another to plan and carry out long-term disaster projects. The committees include Lions from affected regions and experts in earthquake and disaster relief.

To date Lions throughout the world have donated over US$1,000,000
