HISTORY/ LOCATION OF DIGBOI LIONS CLUB

 The inception was rather accidental. It was Rusi B. Gimmy owner of Calcutta wing of SELVEL who mentioned to Jagdish Phookan about the existance of Lions Club and its activity. K.B. Kanuga was the prime mover and Jagdish Phookan was the main spirit behind formation of the club. The Digboi Lions Club was chartered 19th September  1958. Mother or sponsoring club was the Lions club of Calcutta. Its first charter president was K B Kanuga. The oration of Lions Pundole and Minoo Engineer from Lions Club Bombay(1st club of India) carried the crowd. The added attraction of that evening was Dr. Bhupen Hazarika the well known singer.

Digboi Lions Club became the FIRST club of the North East (then in the District 304), this is the Oldest club of the district 322D((then
