The East Providence Lions Club, a 501(c)(3) non profit organization, was chartered in 1961 as a part of Lions Clubs International. Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with almost 1.5 million members in more than 200 countries worldwide. The men and women of the East Providence Lions continue to proudly serve and assist not only its home city but other communities in the East Bay region. There is no finer service organization in the world than Lions Clubs International.

Lions have a dynamic history. Lions Club International was founded in 1917 as the direct result of a challenge issued by Helen Keller to community members encouraging them to provide assistance for visually impaired people of all ages. Since that time, Lions Clubs have branched out into many different areas of need in support of the most worthy individuals and organizations within their respective communities.

Lions give sight. By conducting vision screenings, equipping hospitals and clinics, distributing medicine and raising awareness of eye disease, Lions work toward their mission of providing vision for all. The international Sight First program has made great strides in eradicating the preventable causes of blindness worldwide.

Lions serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools through scholarships, recreational activities, and vision screening.

Lions award grants. For more than 50 years, the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has awarded more than $700 million in grants to support Lions humanitarian projects around the world.

Lions help during disasters. Together, LCIF and the many Lions districts worldwide are helping communities following natural disasters by providing for immediate needs such as food, water, clothing and medical supplies and assisting in long-term reconstruction efforts.

Lions meet the needs of local communities and the world every day because they share a core belief - to serve their community. Our core belief is exemplified by our motto “We Serve”. Visit www.lionsclubs.org for more about Lions Clubs.
