Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization with 1.35 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in 207 countries and geographical areas around the world.  Since 1917, Lions clubs have aided the blind and visually impaired and made a strong commitment to sight preservation and community service throughout the world.

 The Lions’ motto is “We Serve” and the Griffin Lions Club has lived up to it. Established in 1951,the Griffin Lions Club has provided assistance in the Griffin and Spalding County community for over 68 years.

Our Focus:

  • Vision screenings, eyeglass recycling, and eye care services to those at risk of losing their sight.                                                        
  • Hearing screenings and hearing aid recycling programs for children and adults. 
  • Diabetes awareness and prevention, as well as diabetic retinopathy control and prevention.
  • Youth volunteer opportunities and leadership experiences in our Leo Club and our youth programs.
  • Service projects to provide assistance for our community.

Areas of Service

Smoke Detector Distributions

A one time community outreach was mad possible by securing funding for the purpose of supplying the local government and it's citizens with smoke detectors and fire extinguishers was provided.

School Age Vision Screening Program

Vision screening within the schools (public and private) has been made possible by attaining funding for the purpose of obtaining state of the art digital vision screening equipment. Through this testing it has been identified that 20% of the screened children have a need of refferal to medical professionals for vision impairments.

Our Leo Club: Leadership. Experience. Opportunity

These are the values that create the acronym of our club name. Youth who join the Leo Clubs have fun, make new friends, and experience the rewards of serving others. 

Our Lions Club Safety Day Camp:

The Griffin Lions Club mentors youth though an annual one-day youth camp in the month of May. The children get opportunities to meet and learn safety skills by local firemen, police, EMS, Lifeguards, and 911 personnel.  

Our Disaster Relief:

In April of 2011, Spalding County was hit by a tornado.  Griffin Lions Club received a $10,000 grant from the Lions Clubs International Foundation and was able to provide emergency assistance to our community.

Our Community Service Projects:

We also participate in many activities in our community such as the annual Griffin "Doc Holiday" Festival, 4th of July and Christmas Parades along with various community health fairs where we provide vision screenings. 

Our Mardi Gras Fundraiser:

Our annual spring Mardi Gras fundraiser is a fun event where attendees enjoy a costume contest, door prizes, dancing, and New Orleans cuisine. The Griffin Lions Club is dependant upon donations from local businesses and citizens, which allows us to continue serving those in need.

Our Jazz Brunch Fundraiser: An event added in 2018, this fundraiser featured local Jazz artist, who preformed live music during a lazzy mid morning brunch filled with delicious southern cuisine.
