The Club has been serving this community since it was first established in 1981. If you live somewhere else in the Sunny Coast or Hinterland contact us anyway and we will put you in touch with a Club in your area.
The next step is to attend a few of our meetings and participate in a project to find out about what we do and meet the members. Details of our bi-monthly meetings (timings and location) are just on the left of this page.

All Lions Clubs subscribe to a Code of Ethics which you can find via this link https://lionsaustralia.wordpress.com/lions-information/lions-code-of-ethics/ . Lions in Australia are part of Lions Clubs International which has been operating since it was formed in Chicago over 100 years ago. While part of this international organisation, all Clubs aroound the world set their own programs and projects independently generally based around five key global causes, VISION, ENVIRONMENT, CHILDHOOD CANCER, HUNGER and DIABETES as well as active support for Lions Clubs International Foundation's (LCIF) YOUTH projects and programs, DISASTER RELIEF and HUMANITARIAN efforts. All Clubs can support projects that are operated at an international, national and district level as well as projects in their own areas.
We all know that we work best at the things we love to do, so an important question to ask the club members is “what projects do you do?”, “who do you help?” or "why did you join Lions?". If you have a passion for a project, there is no reason why you can’t try to persuade your fellow club members to support it. For example our annual project to provide childrens pyjamas to the Salvation Army each winter was the passion of one of our members who has now gone on to "higher service". We continue this project in her memory. You can find the details of the range of projects we supported last financial year on Page 1 of this website.
How much time is involved?
Lions is a “Community Service” organisation. Our main motto is "WE SERVE" or to put it another way "we make things happen” or "where there is a need there is always a Lion". Local achievements are always satisfying and that’s why we volunteer.
This means that we DO want our members to participate in meetings and their fair share of community service activities. However, at Lions we also say that family comes first, then work, and then the Lions Club. Of course you need to think about your capacity to participate, but for most of us, a couple of hours of television time traded for community service is a worthwhile experience. You will also be joining a group of people who also look after each other as well as having lots of fun.
Paying to volunteer! What’s that about?
Any volunteer organisation needs to provide services and support to its volunteers – training, insurance, promotional materials and the like. As a democratic organisation, we also have some costs associated with our decision-making processes at International, National and local levels.
Did you know that when a member of the public donates money to their local Lions Club, every cent goes to where it was promised? The club doesn’t take even 1%. Compare that with other organisations.
Lions are immensely proud of the fact that we don’t take public donations to cover our operating and administration costs – and its one of the reasons for our good reputation in the community. For example the Australian Lions Foundation has no paid staff, all Board members work on a volunteer basis.
That’s why members pay a small amount in dues. At our club this is around the cost of a cup coffee a week. Every new Lions pays a one off joining fee which is levied on each club by Lions Clubs International. So when you lodge your membership application, you will be asked to pay this fee (which is levied on a prorata basis) along with a prorata amount to cover the annual fee levied by Lions Clubs international twice a year.
Our Club Treasurer will provide the details of this amount at that time. After that you will be asked to pay $50 in July and January each year for a total of $100 per year. You can also pay the full amount of $100 in July if you so wish.
Once a month, when we have our dinner meetings where you have a meal, you will be asked to pay $20 for a meal and some raffle tickets. This arrangement helps to fund our own club administration. Cash or EFTPOS is fine.
