OUR MAIN MISSIONS

  1.  VISION   

In May 2026, the Wheeling Lions Club supplied the pediatric department of Wheeling Hospital with Welch Allyn® Spoto Vision  screener. In the past, The Wheeling Lions Club supplied enough Plusoptix Vision Screening instruments for every school nurse in Ohio County to screen our school-aged children for eye-related issues.

Each year we also supply eye exams and eyeglasses to 250-300 residents of the Ohio Valley, and we collect over 2,000 used eyeglasses each year for recycling.

  2.  HEARING    

The West Virginia Lions Sight Conservation Foundation works to preserve both sight and hearing with WVLSCF and the Starkey Foundation's "Hear Now" program to supply hearing aids to those in need.   If you or your loved one need assistance with hearing aids, apply for assistance here: Application for hearing services.  A Lions Club member will contact you to learn more about your situation and process the application.  Once approved, a copy will be sent to a local audiologist to schedule an appointment. To receive assistance, your total income from all sources may not exceed 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines in effect at the time of the application for assistance.  Upon approval, the Foundation will pay for the hearing aids up to $500 per aid for two aids per applicant, this includes fitting, office visits, batteries, and necessary follow-up.

  3.  DIABETES   

Together with nine local clubs in our district the Wheeling Lions Club contributed to a $7,000 donation to Camp Kno Koma, a Summer Camp For Diabetic Children.  Diabetes camps are designed to help enhance the quality of life, build friendships, and provide management skills for young people living with diabetes. Read the local WTRF news story here.  That is just one way we've chosen to help.  Watch the video for more information about Camp Kno Koma or contact us to learn how you can help support.

  4.  HUNGER    

Whether we're collecting non-perishable goods, working food drives, serving at local events, or donating funds to LCIF, Laughlin Chapel, Youth Services System, St. Luke's Episcopal Church, or more, we want to make a difference in the fight against world hunger.

  5.  CHILDHOOD CANCER   

We donate to WVU Medicine Children's Hospital in support of their expertise in childhood cancer and have been attending their Annual OV Children's Hospital Fundraising Gala since its start in 2006.  WVU Medicine Children’s is home to state-of-the-art centers of excellence including a Blood Disorders & Cancer Center, Heart Center & Birthing Center.  For more information visit https://childrens.wvumedicine.org/about-us.
