TOWCESTER & DISTRICT LIONS CLUB
Since its formation in 1974, Towcester Lions Club has always strived to fulfil the aims and objectives of Lions Clubs worldwide, which is for members to provide comfort and assistance to people less fortunate than themselves.
Membership is open to both men and women over 21 and is irrespective of job, status, religion or creed. The only requirement is that the new lions are people who wish to use some of their spare time to serve their local community.
During the past year, Towcester Lions have given support to the elderly at Ridgeway House, raised funds for the BBC Children in Need Appeal and sent over 1500 pairs of spectacles to the Third World (total sent exceeds 8000 - See Club Projects). As part of the club's Care in the Community programme, the Lions have distributed 6000 Lifeline Bottle Information Packs to disabled and elderly people in the area, completely free of charge (See Club Projects).
In April 2005, the Lions took over the management of the Towcester Farmers' Market from which all profits are being used to support deserving causes within the local community. More information can be found in the Farmers Market section.
Being a Lion is not all community service and fund raising. Towcester Lions has a very active social programme and every month it arranges a social evening with partners and friends.
The members all agree that the need for "Fellowship and Fun" should be part of the reason for becoming a Lion.
