KidSight information

KidSight is a program offered by the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation, and local Lions Clubs.  Members of local Lions clubs visit local daycares and preschool facilities to provide vision screenings to children age 1-5 .  This is made possible with innovative technology from Pediavision.  With there camera we are able to screen children who otherwise would have their vision unchecked for years.  Using this technology a screener positions themselves in front of the child and takes a picture of the eyes.  The team then gets instant results that tell them if a child needs to be referred to a vision specialist.  

KidSight glowing and growing.  The Kentucky KidSight program has continued to grow and we are now engages in all districts.  The program has 18 cameras and all cameras are committed with teams covering the entire state. WAY TO GO MD 43!!!

Our numbers of children screened has grown each year of the program: 2004: 1735; 2005: 3391; 2006: 3670; 2007: 5748 and projections for 2008 of over 7000.  This is possible by the efforts of those clubs who choose to become involved in this rewarding program at their level.  We are screening children and finding a number of children who are in need of medical treatment for vision and we are seeing many of those children receive treatment.

 Currently this program has 309 open cases, cases where we are waiting on information from doctors who have seen the children, waiting on appoints which have not happened yet, or waiting on the parents to make the appointment and have their vision checked.  This is the current status across the state of open cases.

K 42 open cases; E 24 open cases,  N 176 open cases, T 38 open cases, C 23 open cases, and Y 6 open cases.  We are making an impact; we have touched the vision lives of over 550 children in the state of Kentucky.
