$$$$$ $10,000 Annual Raffle $$$$$
The Forest Lions Club is once again planning for its annual $10,000 raffle. This year’s event will be held Friday, May 4th at the
Raffle tickets with dinner and an open bar are $100 each. Additional dinner tickets may be purchased for $35.
As in the past, this will be a reverse raffle with all 250 numbers called. The final 10 ticket holders will have the option of splitting the proceeds or remaining in the running for a chance at the full $10,000.

FOREST LIONS HOST 2012 BLAND MUSIC COMPETITION

On Thursday, February 23rd, nineteen contestants gathered at Jefferson Forest High School auditorium for the Forest Lions Club’s annual Bland music competition. Lion Dallas Scott, District Governor 24 E and chairman of the competition, commented that this was the largest number of contestants in his thirteen years of heading the event.
Contestants included eleven public high school students and eight contestants that were home schooled. Ages ranged from 14 to 17. In the vocal category sopranos dominated, and in the instrumental category pianists dominated.
The judges for the vocal competition were Mrs. Sarah Pelfrey a lyric soprano currently the Music Director at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and Dr. Randall Speer, Music Director at Court Street UMC and Assistant Professor of Music at Randolph College. The instrumental contestants were judged by Dr. Lynn Seipp the principal clarinet in the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra and Mrs. Norma Stein, private piano teacher and church organist in the Lynchburg area.
Certificates of Participation were awarded to all contestants with cash prizes awarded to the first place winners Grace Kim (Soprano) and Timothy Byram (Piano), second place winners Allison Booth (Soprano) and Rachel Sochor (Piano) and third place winners Caitlyn Leach (Soprano) and Sarah Wood (Piano).
The two first place winners, Grace Kim and Timothy Byram now move on to compete in the District 24 E Region I competition to be held on Sunday, March 18th at 2:30 pm at the Ferrum College Chapel, Ferrum, VA. The public is invited to attend.
