Reading is Fundamental (R.I.F.). Our Reading is Fundamental project is giving away free books to the students from Kindergarten through the fifth grade at least three times a year. (One of our best projects each year.) We do this for the Hillsboro-Deering Elementary School and the Washington Elementary School
Distribute thesauruses to the third graders in Hillsboro and Washington.
We recycle eyeglasses and hearing aids all year long. We have collection boxes at the Post Office, OSRAM, American Legion, and Knapton Reade and Woods, We also recycle cell phones and pull tabs from cans which are given to the Shriners.
Provide Vision Screening for the school children in four schools.
Conduct Hearing Screening for the school children and adults. We do this in Hillsboro at the Hillsboro-Deering Schools and in Washington for the elementary school plus at the Hillsboro Head Start.
We assist the school nurses in providing socks, underwear and health supplies for the children who need some assistance.
We assist in eye exams and eyeglasses for those in need of assistance.
We also assist in obtaining hearing aids.
On a monthly basis we donate to the "End 68 hours of Hunger"
We also donate to the new back packs project for the school students.
