The Lac du Bonnet Lions Club thanks all of you who volunteer in our Community. We also thank the countless individuals who support our efforts in serving our Community and helping those less fortunate this past year. Together we make a difference in making Lac du Bonnet a better place.
April 18th to the 25th is National Volunteer Week. It is estimated that in Canada, approximately 12 million volunteers give their time to 161,000 charitable organizations, which generate $112 billion a year to the Canadian economy. We can and do, make a difference.
Albeit on a smaller scale, the Lac du Bonnet Lions would like to share some information about its operations. Funding for Lions Administration activities is raised through Club membership dues and Lions personal donations. Funding for Lions activities in the community is raised through various means, is kept separate from administration funds and is returned 100% to the Community to give assistance to the less fortunate, both locally and abroad.
The Lions generally help to cover medical costs for individuals in need of assistance. These medical costs include travel, accommodations, and medical equipment requirements. The Lions Club also donates to and supports various community projects. Examples include the purchase of the Young Child Learning computer for the Library, the WII system for the Personal Care Home and upgrading the pool table at the Youth Centre and significant contributions to the Lac du Bonnet Community Centre, the Lac du Bonnet Arena and the Lac du Bonnet Library.
-                Community Centre: A land donation valued at $28,000, two monetary donations of $50,000 each and a current commitment of $37,500 being paid at an annual rate of $2500 per year.
-                Arena:  $35,000 monetary donation
-                Library: $5,500 monetary donation
      -        Lac du Bonnet and Area Charitable Foundation:  $10,000 monetary donation
Funding for special projects, such as the Canada Day Fireworks, is raised through a dedicated canvas, in which all funds are earmarked for that special project. That is, all donations collected and received from the public, businesses and grants for the fireworks are used for that event only. It is worth noting that with the generous support of countless contributors in addition to grants from the Town and the Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet our Canada Day Fireworks Display has become, arguably, the best in Manitoba, drawing admirers in droves from near and far.
The Lions Club will continue to work diligently within the Community serving its greatest needs. You are invited to visit our Web page at lacdubonnetmbca.lionwap.org to see what we are all about, to review our activities or just come out to a meeting, and if you like what you see, please join us.
