Club Projects

Below are the various projects of the Linda Lions.  For dates of upcoming events, please select Calendar on the navigation links on the left side of this page.  These are just some of the activities Linda Lions participate in and support, as this list may be incomplete.

Anywhere people are in need, you will find Lions ready to help in many, many ways.

Nor-Cal Singing Competition

This is our biggest event and fundraiser.  Contestants from Redding to Sacramento compete to win first, second, and third prizes as the best singers in the tri-county region.

Entrants are urged to bring their friends, families, and co-workers to the show to encourage and cheer them on.

The public is encouraged to attend and support this key fundraising event.

Eyeglasses for Those in Need

Linda Lions actively partipates in Lions International's eyeglasses program, providing vision care and glasses to local citizens who struggle financially and may have insufficient medical coverage for this purpose.

Linda Lions collects recycled eyeglasses from numerous Linda Lions dropboxes distributed throughout the community, including the Linda Walmart Eyecare Center, Peachtree Clinic, and Linda area public schools administration offices, where used eyeware can be dropped off for re-use.

For information on donating, and for more information on obtaining vision care and eyeglasses for yourself or others in need, see our eyeglasses program page.

Community Food and Toy Drive

Each year, Linda Lions, Linda Rotary, and Linda Moose members jointly operate a toy and food drive called SoYuCan (South Yuba County Action Network) to benefit the poorest families in the Olivehurst/Linda area at Christmas time.  In 2014, 200 families received turkeys and fixings for their Christmas dinners, and their children received dozens of gifts so they would not miss out on the fun and cheer of the season.  In 2016 and 2017, more than 300 families were served this way.  Linda Lions is proud to be a part of this very essential service that means so much to so many families in our community.

Student Speaker Contest

In cooperation with the Marysville Joint Unified School District, students from area high schools are invited to enter this contest each year.  Participants submit an essay on a topic selected annually by Linda Lions.  Students present their essays before the Linda Lions, the best proceeding to a regional contest also sponsored by Lions in the 4C region.

Linda Lions raise money year around in order to be able to award this college scholarship money as prizes.  Helping our local students continue their education is an important way that Linda Lions supports the Linda community.

Art Davis Memorial Veterans Day Essay Contest

Each November, Linda Lions sponsors an essay writing contest in honor of our Veterans.  Area middle school students are invited to write about the meaning of Veterans Day.  The author of the best essay receives $150 as an incentive and reward for good scholarship.

This award to an exceptional local student is yet another way Linda Lions contributes to the community.  The contest is named in honor of the late Art Davis who had been a long-time member of Linda Lions and who first proposed the idea.  Art was a WWII veteran.

Holiday Flag Service

As a tribute to our nation and its soldiers and veterans, Linda Lions places American flags at area businesses and homes.

These flags are proudly and respectfully hung early in the morning of each holiday and retrieved by our volunteers before sundown.

Flag service is available for a nominal donation, and covers most major American national holidays.
