Meetings

The Maliesburg Lions Club runs a number of projects throughout the year.

On a monthly basis we make sure that the children of Girls and Boys Town in Magaliesburg receive a cake on each of their birthdays.  We supply the 107 Emergency Services with refreshments to help them cope with the difficult, but invaluable work that they do.

We look after various schools and day care centres, with donations, and also make sure the children get a Christmas party sometime during the year.

We assist the Salvation Army Home as well as Shalom, a home for disabled children,  in whatever way we can.

Eye Testing - With the kind assistance of a local Optometrist, hundreds of people in our community have had their eyes tested and have received spectacles where necessary.  We have also assisted some patients requiring cataract operations.

Diabetes Testing and Awareness - On an annual basis we run an awareness campaign with a run/walk where participants are tested before and after the run.  We set up an information booth in a shopping centre and test members of the public.  There are various prizes and activities to make it interesting and attract participants.

Blood Drive - For many years we have assisted the South African National Blood Service at their bi monthly blood drive at our local Civic Centre.  We have helped the donors fill in the forms, offered cold drinks and just generally supported where necessary.

Arboretum - The Magaliesburg Lions Club started an Arboretum at our club house where we invited other Lions Clubs to donate a tree every Arbor Day.  This is followed by a social and lots of fun.  The trees are thriving.

Buddy Day - Each year we participate in a district project where disabled folk are entertained.  Able bodied youngsters are recruited to join up with a disabled partner and assist them for the day.
