From the Secretary’s Pen,

 

          This report is complete from July, 2011 to March, 2012. 

 

          It has been a privileged to take charge of this Club as the Secretary in this very eventful and important year as our very dear LION AMAR BAROOAH, PMJF adorned the office of the District Governor of this District.

 

          At the very outset I must add that with senior members of our club being the torch bearers it was always easy for me to offer my best services.

 

          Our club was inaugurated on 3rd of November, 1965 and the Charter was presented on 26th March, 1966 and was sponsored by Lions Club of Duliajan. Justice S.K. Dutta was the Charter President. Till date, our Club has produced 3 District Governors, the first being Lion S.C. Bagrodia (L.Y. 1975-1976), second Lion Dr. S.C. Dutta (L.Y. 1990-91) and the 3rd is the incumbent District Governor, Lion Amar Barooah.

 

        Our club has given 2 MJF’s and 1 Progressive MJF till date. Further, our Club has also contributed to the DFF as 8 of our members are Diamond DFF, 8 Progressive DFF & 16 Life members of DFF.

 

Our new Board of Directors for L.Y. 2011-2012 headed by Lion Kalyan Kr. Sarma as President was duly installed on 24/06/2011 by Lion Mandira Chanda, PMCC.

 

          The month of July, 2011 was the month in which the Board of Directors finalized the location for various service projects and sub-committee were formed on health, environment and finance etc.

 

          1st and 2nd Semi-Annual dues of the International Office and District & Multiple Office has been duly paid.  

 

          Our membership strength as on 26th March, 2012 is 59 out of which 49 are regular members including 3 Members-at-Large and 10 family members.

 

          Board of Director’s meetings and General Body meetings are regularly held.

 

          Our Club is now in the e-club house of Lions International and the domain name is www.e-clubhouse.org/sites/narangi. In the month of September, 2011 our club for the first time in the history of the district has taken out an e-newsletter “SPECTACLE” and the same is uploaded in our club’s website along with all relevant information and the second issue has also been released in the month of December, 2011. 

 

          A colloquy or orientation programme for new members was proposed, organized and conducted by Lion Dr. D.C. Barkotoky on 31/07/2011 at his residence with the speakers being Lion Dr. D.C. Borkotoky, Lionees Jolly Borkotoky, Lion Dr. B.P. Sharma and yours truly. It was a interactive programme and the participation was satisfactory.

 

          The havoc and devastation caused by the floods in Dhemaji District caught the attention of our club and our club donated Rs. 13,000/- out of which Rs. 1,000/- each was voluntarily donated by 2 of our members Lion Naren Hazarika, Past President and Lion Chakreswar Kachari. We appreciate the kind gesture shown by the aforesaid 2 members.

 

          As has been the practice for the last couple of years, our club has been emphasizing on tree plantation and environment projects. In pursuance to our International President’s call for plantation of 1 million tree, our club took up several tree plantation programme. First, we planted around 25 saplings at Beltola Buniyadi Bidyalaya ground, Beltola on 07/08/2011. Secondly, another 35 saplings at A.S.E.B. School Ground, Forest Gate on 13/08/2011. Thirdly, around 25 saplings were planted at Patharquary, Narangi on 20/08/2011. Fourthly, around 112 saplings were planted at the campus of ISBT, Betkuchi.

 

          Our club organized a Health & Environment Awareness and a Health Camp on 27/08/2011 in association with Puberun Sangha at their premises at Beltola, Guwahati wherein around 100 individuals checked their blood pressure and blood sugar. Lion Dr. B.P. Sharma delivered an audio-visual presentation on Health & Environment Awareness.

 

          Independence Day was celebrated by our lioness club by visiting the blind school at Basistha and food packets were distributed to the inmates of the school. Our Lion Club also joined in the programme.

 

          In the month of September, 2011, our club once again planted around 130 saplings at the premises of TOP, IOC, Betkuchi on 02/09/2011.

 

          Sri Priya Nath Bora, retired Principal, Panbazar Girls’ Higher Secondary School was felicitated by our club on the occasion of Teacher’s Day on 05/09/2011 at his residence at Jatia, Kahilipara. Our member Lion Dr. N.K. Das & Lioness Arati Das, Retired Professor of Department of Botany, Gauhati University and teacher of Nichols High School respectively were also felicitated on the occasion at the residence of Lion President at Beltola.    

 

          On 09/09/2011, an Awareness Programme on heart disease along with a health camp was organized by our club at Ganesh Mandir Path, New Guwahati. Around 70 individuals got their blood pressure and blood sugar checked. Lion Dr. Amiya Kr. Sarma, Immediate Past President delivered an audio-visual presentation on heart diseases, their prevention & cure.

 

A mega health awareness programme was organized at TOP, IOC, Betkuchi, Guwahati on 24/09/2011. Blood sugar, blood pressure check-up camp was also organized there. Around 105 persons were beneficiaries. Along with IOC, Guwahati Refinery, our Club organized a Run on the occasion of World Heart Day on 29/09/2011.

 

          UNO day was celebrated by our Club on 24/10/2011. Col. (Retd.) Manoranjan Goswami spoke about UNO and its activities, he being the Guest Speaker for the evening.

 

Two (2) Peace Poster contests were organized by our Club. First one at Guwahati Artist Guild, Chandmari on 06/11/2011 and the other organized along with our Alpha Leo Club at their Refinery School premises on 13/11/2011.

 

A Health Camp was organized at Narangi on 24/12/2011 wherein around 54 individuals got their blood sugar, blood pressure and bone mineral density checked.

 

Another Mega Health Check-up and Awareness Camp was organized at B.Ed. College premises, Baihata Chariali on 29/01/2012 wherein around 405 individuals were checked with their blood pressure, blood sugar, dental health, gynecological complaints, eyes, general health. ECG was also conducted. 14 Doctors out of which 5 were from our Club attended the Camp and it was a huge successes.

   

Our Club has also taken out a bulletin on Late Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on 25/11/2011 wherein several of our members wrote about the life and works of the maestro.

 

          “Clean & Green Narangi Project”, the signature permanent project of our club is running very smoothly as our club is maintaining the area with the help of the local organization and individual. “Grief & You” an IOC sponsored NGO is also helping us and are rendering their services in maintaining the area including the road divider parks.

 

          Our Club is also maintaining the ISBT Park named “R. N. Brahma Park” wherein around 112 saplings were planted by us.

         

          The Lioness Club of Narangi sponsored by our Lions Club is also rendering their valuable services. 

 

          The Alpha Leo Club, the first and only Alpha Leo Club of our district  Christened “Leo Club of Narangi”, sponsored by our club is also actively rendering quality services and they join and help us in our service projects.

 

          The District Governor Lion Amar Barooah paid his official visit to our club on 25/11/2011. In the morning the D.G. was taken by our club officials and members to the ISBT Park at Betkuchi which is maintained by our club and also to Beltola Buniyadi Bidyalaya where our club has planted trees. D.G. took keen interest in both the parks and appreciated the club. In the evening meeting was organized at Hotel Ambarish and the Board of Directors meeting as is mandatory started and the Secretary informed the D.G. about the administration activities and service activities. Lion Treasurer informed the D.G. of the financial health of the club. D.G. checked the club records and he emphasized on increasing attendance of members in the meeting and on service activities. The BOD meeting was followed by the Regular Official meeting on D.G. visitation wherein D.G. inducted a new member in our club.

 

          Our club proposes to hold more of health & environment awareness camps, take up a new permanent environment project at Beltola, Guwahati, celebrate important days, build fellowship amongst members, induct new members and strive for 100% retention.

 

          To sum up, our club is proceeding towards the right direction both in administrative and service activities. Our club’s emphasis on health and environment has paid rich dividends as also in retention of members. All dues to International Office and the District & Multiple are paid to date. Meetings are being held regularly. Reports are sent on time.

 

          Under the able guidance of President Lion Kalyan Kr. Sarma and the dynamic leadership of our District Governor Lion Amar Barooah, Past Presidents, Senior Members and the enthusiasm of the other members, I am confident that our club will scale new heights towards achieving excellence in service thereby enhancing its image in the District as also in the international.
