2nd Tree Planting Campaign A project by the THE GREEN TEAM of Lions Club of Nawala Metro. With the aim of protecting our environment for the future generation, a tree planting campaign was organized on the 21st January 2012, at Wigton Estate, Rozella. Were we sponsored and planted 2,000 high breaded Bamboo plants. Bamboo is a group of perennial evergreens in the true grass family Poaceae, subfamily - Bambusoideae, tribe - Bambuseae Bamboos are some of the fastest growing plants in the world, as some species have been recorded as growing up to 100 cm (39 in) within a 24 hour period due to a unique rhizome-dependent system which will help to protect natural water sources and micro climatic conditions. Bamboos also have a notable economic and cultural significance in South Asia, South East Asia and East Asia, being used for building materials, as a food source, and as a versatile raw product. the cost involved was US$440.00.

Once again with our project theme "You can make a difference with Helping Hands" We tied up with "Truly Save Monaragala" and donated School bags,Excersise books, School Stationery and shoes for 150 under privilaged children of Monaragala, the cost involved was US$2630.00

With our project theme " We are changing lives of our war hero's" we organized to donate two numbers of Jaipur Legs to two war heros who are being rehabilitated at the Sri Lanka Army rehabilitation Center " ranaviru Sevana" in Ragama on 05th November 2011. the cost involved was US$350.00

With our project theme “You can make a difference” with “Helping Hands” We sponsored Lunch, deserts, Chocolates, Cake for evening tea dry rations and school stationary worth of US$289.00 for 30inmates of Maithree Child Development Center, Colombo 8 on 3rd November 2011.

"Children’s rights are the duty of all,"
was the theme for the World Children’s Day 2011
World Children's Day is celebrated on various days around the world, to promote mutual exchange and understanding amongst children as well as to initiate action to benefit and promote the welfare of the children. It was also chosen as the day to celebrate childhood. Sri Lanka celebrates Children’s day on the 1st of October.
In 2011The Lions Club of JAWATTE SUMIT jointly with Lions Club of NAWALA METRO & Lions Club of UMEA TEG , Sweden celebrated this day on Friday 14th October 2011 from 9.00am onwards, at Wishaka Balika Vidyalaya, E S Fernando Mawatha, Colombo 06.the cost being US$350.00
The Chief Guest for this occasion was the District Governor of District 306C2 - Sri Lanka Lion Lal Manualge MJF

Name of project : Inspiring the Next - Career Fair 2011

"Leader In You" Is a project of The Lions Club of Nawala Metro, which is aimed at helping to groom better leaders for tomorrow.
"Inspiring the Next –Career Fair 2011"
Was organized for the fifth ( 5th) consecutive year by the Career Guidance Unit of the University of Kelaniya with the objective of providing an invaluable opportunity for both the undergraduates in all four faculties of the university and the corporate world to lessen the gulf and to strengthen the ties between these two sectors.The Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the University of Kelaniya was founded with the objective of enhancing the quality of professional and soft skills of the university students, whilst strengthening the link between the undergraduates and the corporate sector. Since the establishment, the CGU has been organizing events to facilitate this purpose.
This year we the Lions Club of Nawala Metro with our project theam "Leader In You" (Is a project of The Lions Club of Nawala Metro, which is aimed at helping to groom better leaders for tomorrow) got together with the Career Guidance Unit of University of Kelaniya and sponsored a workshop for 87 students the cost being US$220.00
The work shop was conducted by Master Trainer & our Club member Lion Nuwan Samarapathi on 02nd September 2011 at the Faculty of Science, Auditorium. His title of the workshop was “Awaken the Champion in you with NLP”

"The Green Team" Is a project of The Lions Club of Nawala Metro, which is aimed at creating a sustainable environment for further generations. With the aim of protecting our environment for the future genaration, a tree planting campaign was organized on the 27th August 2011, at Vellaioya Estate, Hatton. Were we sponsored and planted 500Nos. of Eucalyptus plants with the cost being US$ 87.00
This was a joint club project and was organized by the Lions Club of nawala Metro & The Lions Club of Hatton (District 306C2 - Sri lanka.

"Helping Hands" Is a project of The Lions Club of Nawala Metro which is aimed at helping the community for a better tomorrow. Keeping the above in mind we organized our first club project, on the 23rd July 2011 at the National Cancer Institute, Maharagama where we donated items worth US$ 350.00
