 Club Projects

At the heart of every community is the volunteer dedicating hours of time and energy to making their community a better place to live.  These volunteers often go unnoticed, but in reality these unsung heroes make-or-break the success and effectiveness of community service projects.  Our mission is to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding.

There are a myriad of program areas through which we deliver services.  Service activities are organized into activities committees and assigned a chairperson to oversee and otherwise manage goals and deliverables.  By way of illustration, but not limitation, the following diagram shows examples of committees:

Ottawa Lions Club has several upcoming community service events:

The Ottawa Lions Club will kick off their annual Candy Day event accepting donations at Handy-Foods West; Wal-Mart; Financial Plus Credit Union; and Kroger Company, north and south stores.  The co-chairpersons for this event are Lions Bryan Baldwin and Carol Downey.

On Friday and Saturday (October 5th and 6th), member volunteers took to the streets of Ottawa and raised funds as part of our annual Candy Day project.    Since 1936, the Ottawa Lions Club has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service by raising awareness about preventing vision loss, and helping those who live with blindness and visual impairment.

According to Lions club president Russell Edmon, “100 percent of the contributions donated by the community during this two-day event will be used directly for client services, including eye exams, eyeglasses, and hearing aids, as well as helping to support local food pantry, purchase of large print materials for local libraries, and supplies and equipment for special needs school children”.

Several businesses have already made donations to underwrite the Ottawa Lions Club Candy Day. “This is one of many projects provided by the Lions Club that embodies our slogan, ‘Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion’, said Russell Edmon.  “You are truly helping Ottawa Lions make a difference in our community and we thank everyone who contributes to this important work”.

Lions clubs are a group of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs.  As a member-driven, not-for-profit organization, donations are collected entirely by our member volunteers.

Needs Assessment Questionnaire & Continous Club Improvement

As we begin our new fiscal year, Ottawa Lions Club is conducting its annual survey of local agencies and accepting requests for financial assistance and/or program services specifically addressing needs identified by those resourceful individuals and organizations in the community.

Our primary purpose is to assist financially, culturally, socially and morally the disabled, disadvantaged and infirm of the community both directly and also indirectly.  Local Lions clubs provide services for not only the sight and hearing impaired (supporting doctor exams and purchasing glasses and hearing aids), but for many other health-related issues and civic projects.

To this end, we are reaching out and asking resourcefule agencies and leaders in the community for assistance in our efforts.  By completing the Needs Assessment Questionnaire below, you will help our civic organization better determine community service needs, particularly as applies to your facility based upon your expertise.  And please remember that programs and services are something we have earned our reputation and not simply providing money to cover immediate needs.

We also encourage you to forward this questionnaire to any other person(s) whose comments you believe would be helpful in tailoring programs and services we provide to the community.  We ask that all questionnaires be returned by October 30, 2015.

After we have compiled our data, a representative of our club will provide you with a summary of what we have learned from this assessment and whether or not we can partner with other clubs or organizations in addressing your most pressing needs and better serve you.
