Meetings

We set off our 'Lions Sports Academy' with the vision of improving the physical activities culture of our children in the month of Dec 2010.

The project was in our minds for sometime. Ln Gangadharan brought it up in the director board, and we were waiting for a suitable way to lauch it. Ln Dr Gopinath suggested to conduct a vacation coaching camp with the assistance of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Payyanur.

We contacted the best coaches available: Sri P P Krishnan and Kalpaka Govindan for volleyball, Mr Anil Kumar for foodball, and Mr M Noushad for batminton. All schools were contacted by PRO Ln Balan, and they showed overwhelming response, some of them even arranging vehicles to bring the students to ground.

The event was inaugurated on Dec 19th by Vidyalaya President Ln Dr K Gopinath MJF. it was conducted over 12 days from 7 am to 9 am. Many Lions were on the ground each day, especially Ln Radhakrishnan and Ln Lakshman who assisted coaches. We provided the students with milk and biscuits each day. The students were very cheered up, and attended enthusiastically. They brought more children on successive days. There were significant number of girls too, in the camp. It was heartening to see the children, who were at first not able to budge, becoming very athletic and running around, playing their sport well as the camp progressed.

The camp concluded on Dec 30th. Payyanur SI, Mr Vinod was the Chief Guest. students were given certificates and light refreshments on the day.

We have registered 25 students so far for the academy, which is being conducted on Saturday and Sunday. I hope this academy progresses in the direction intended and be a feather in the cap of Payyanur Lions Club.
