Lions Landing Marina Park

Above: Lions volunteers pull out the docks, winding up another successful boating season.

For over 50 years, the Port Stanley Lions have operated Lions Landing Marina Park.  Located just a few hundred metres upstream of the historic King George VI Lift Bridge, the property features 61 slips (51 serviced with hydro and water) that accommodate vessels up to 26 feet in length and up to an 8 foot beam.  Docks are installed mid-April and removed in Mid-October.

While boaters enjoy reserved dockside parking and picnic tables, the remainder of this beautiful green space is open to the general public, including a serviced, cement-floored picnic pavilion which can be booked for special events at no charge.  The site includes 3 Port-A-John units.

The Lions Landing boaters are a socially active group, organizing a number of events each summer including a meet & greet, Christmas in July, chili cook off, 50's dance, yearly boat inspections by the local Power & Sail Squadron, closing pot luck BBQ and a 9 hole golf tournament at the fnearby Kettle Creek Golf and Country Club.

Port Stanley Lions / Shoppers Drug Mart Annual "Marr Family" Golf Tournament & Fish Fry

On June 4th, 2011, 144 golfers once again descended on Kettle Creek Golf and Country Club in Port Stanley, chased around a little white ball, scarfed down countless pounds of battered Lake Erie yellow perch, and, while they were at it, raised over $10,000 for the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital and other local community projects.

With the help of our key corporate sponsors, the Shoppers Drug Mart’s of St. Thomas and Aylmer, our Lunch, Dinner and Cart sponsors (Wendy’s, Port Stanley Firefighters Association, and Greenlane Community Trust, respectively), the 2nd Annual Port Stanley Lions Marr Family Golf Tournament was able to surpass the goal of $10,000 to purchase a Cardiac Treadmill for use in perfusion studies in the Nuclear Medicine department at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital.

Planning is already under way for 2012’s 3rd Annual Tournament.  Check this site regularly for information and updates.

UPDATE:  In recent discussions with the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation, it was decided that due to a lack of capital funding (approx. $30k) for the ancillary equipment required to effectively make use of the Cardiac Treadmill, the funds raised by the golf tournament would be directed toward the purchase of a Trans-Cutaneous Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) Monitor instead.  A TCO2 monitor measures the concentration of carbon dioxide in arterial blood without having to actually draw blood from the patient.  This device will be used throughout the hospital:  in the sleep clinic, in neonatal / pediatric units, and in the operating rooms.
