Meetings

The 5 pillars of service for Lions Club International are Vision, Hunger, Diabetes, Cancer and Environment.

One hunderd percent of funds raised and collected from the public are returned to the community in the form of projects, programs and donations.

The following is a list of common service projects we have on an annual basis; however, it is not all inclusive.

  • Vision and Hearing Screening
    • Each October, we volunteer to screen the eyesight and hearing of approximately 2000 elementary students in the Lakeland School District.
    • If a student is in need of eyeglasses/hearing aid but can’t afford it, we offer assistance.
  • Backpack Program
    • We provide food for needy children for weekends and school breaks.
    • The Lakeland School District identifies children in need and we donate food bags to those children on a weekly basis.
    • Volunteers meet once a month to pack up a month’s worth of food for distribution.
  • Rathdrum Parks and Recreation
    • We have several opportunities to help our local Parks and Recreation Dept.  They have an ongoing need for volunteers to help with various events and project throughout the year.  Some of these opportunities would also be good for a family/kids to help with so you can serve as a family.
  • Recycling Eye Glasses and Hearing Aids
    • We gather donated used eyeglasses from our collection boxes.  They are cleaned, measured and sent to Lions Clubs in third world countries to be distributed to those in need.
  • Recycled Plastic Bags
    • We collect plastic bags from members and some local stores to be recycled.
    • We partner with the TREX Corporation to recycle the bags in exchange for a TREX bench.
    • We donate the benches to our community and local nonprofits.
  • Firewood
    • We cut, split, load and deliver approximately 50 cords of firewood to people in need.
    • The logs are donated to us and community members bring backhoes, trucks, trailers and chainsaws to cut up the firewood.
    • This is typically done in September or October.
  • Eyeglasses and Hearing Aid Assistance
    • People in the community can reach out to us if they are in need of eyeglasses or hearing aids and have financially difficulty.
  • Scholarships
    • We provide three $1000 college scholarships to attend North Idaho College.
    • One scholarship is earmarked for each of the three high schools in the district.
  • Christmas Gift and Meals
    • We select two families to receive Christmas gifts and dinner.
    • A Tree of Sharing is displayed in the clubhouse and has tags for gift ideas.
    • The club also displays two Toys for Tots donation boxes.
  • Cash Donations
    • We donate to Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF), Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere (CARE), Leader Dogs for the Blind, Rathdrum Food Bank and Youth Athletic Programs.
