Leadership Development

Networking

side1

Can people in your community "like" you on Facebook?  More than half a billion people around the world are members of this social network site making it an essential tool for projecting your club's image, especially to young people.

If you are a social networking novice, view Social Media 101 Best Practices Guide for tips on setting up and using Facebook and Twitter.

You can also use Lions Clubs International's E-Clubhouse tool to set up a website for your club in just a few minutes.  No web design skills are needed.

Leadership Development

side2It is every Lion leader's responsibility to ensure that every Lion has the opportunity to make a difference.  It is also a leader's responsibility to identify and empower the next generation of Lion leaders.  Leadership development begins with a quality orientation for every new Lion and continues throughout that individual's career as a Lion.

You have already taken the first steps along your path of Lion leadership, but learning to lead is a lifelong process.  There are many tools and resources to help you along this path, beginning at the Leadership Resource Center at the Lions Clubs International website.

Dear Lions,

Welcome to our shared leadership year! I am looking forward to sharing this year with all of you, but especially with club presidents as I believe that the greatest strength of our association rests at the club level. I plan to have "presidents-meet-the-president" meetings wherever I travel and I will be relying on you to bring my message to your members

By now most of you know that the theme for my year as international president is "I Believe." "I Believe" is the attitude I hope that you and all Lions have toward our ability to change the world. Together, the 1.35 million Lions club members around the world make up the world's largest network of caring individuals. That makes us capable of great things.

It is also a personal statement from me. I believe in you. I believe that every Lion makes a difference.

I thank you for your part in the work we are beginning -- work that will make a difference in the lives of millions.

Sincerely,

Wing-Kun Tam

International President

block1Tree Planting Campaign

Anyone can plant a tree and many people do.  But Lions campaign to plant one million trees this year serves a purpose beyond beautifying our communities.  Trees cleanse and renew the Earth's atmosphere.  There is little a single individual can do that does more to protect the environment than planting trees.  Healthy, thriving trees will remind our neighbors for years to come of Lions commitment to the environment and the vital role that Lions Clubs play in our communities.

The trees will also be a constant reminder to ourselves that Lions can reach any goal we set.  The "Believers Award" has been created to recognize those who demonstrate their belief in the power of service by planting a tree.

Read more information about the Believers Award and good reasons Lions in your club and district should be planting trees.

block2Global Service Action Campaigns

Leos and members of the Cub Program are the future of our Lions family and every effort should be made to engage them in Lions activities. This campaign is the perfect opportunity to invite Leos, family members and other youth groups in the community to participate in a Lions Club service project. This year's first Global Service Action Campaign is already upon us! Please do not delay preparing your club or district for the Engaging Our Youth campaign, scheduled for August.

The schedule for Global Service Action Campaigns will be the same as last year.

August                        Engaging Our Youth
October                      Sharing the Vision
December-January   Relieving the Hunger
April                            Protecting Our Environment

For help in planning your club and district's participation visit "Engaging Our Youth" Global Service Action Campaign.
