ADOPT-A-SCHOOL

Reno Host Lions with Corbett School children
Roger Corbett Elementary School, an at-risk school named for a former Reno Host Lion was adopted by our club in 1991. Activities which are part of the Lions Adopt-A-School program include:
Student of the Month
Each month, a Roger Corbett student is named by the school principle and honored for his/her scholarship and good citizenship at a Lions Club meeting. Each student receives a T-Shirt and memento.
Reading Mentors
Lions volunteer many hours for reading to classes, while some have undertaken a more critical role to act as role models and mentors for children through the mentor program.
Flag Day
Lions present American flags and communicate their love of our country to students in Lions Flag Day ceremonies in February.
Soccer Team
Lions have coached the Roger Corbett soccer team for a number of years teaching citizenship as well as soccer.
Games Day
Lions volunteer their time to assist in the games and serve a gourmet hamburger lunch to all the students of Roger Corbett.
Junior Achievement
Lions teach lesson programs emphasizing business and the American free enterprise system. A highlight is preparation for job interviews and techniques for seeking employment.
