History

Generous Beginning: The 14 acres of the Renton Lions Youth Camp, on the Cedar River in Maple Valley, was originally two sections donated by Mr. Thinheart (from Federal Savings Bank, now First Federal Bank - 7 acres) and the Cugini family (4 acres). The last 3 acres were purchased later on.

Salmon Habitat: With the help of King County Save our Salmon and the State of Washington Fisheries, half a mile of side channels was created for salmon habitat. The Lions Run is on the National Registry as the only run west of the Mississippi. About 150,000 to 500,000 salmon travel up the Cedar River to spawn every year, of those, approximately 500 to 1500 Sockeye use the run to spawn.

Renton Lions Club: In the summer time, the Renton Lions Club holds two meetings per month at the camp. In August the club hosts an annual Bohunk Night and a Halloween Party (for members and families) in October.

Youth Activities: The camp annually hosts several youth groups, including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Camp Fire and Little League. It contains a baseball field, cooking and eating facilities, restrooms, large fire pit, sleeping quarters, and a wonderful view of the river in a wooded setting.
