Sun Life Magazine Delivery Project:
From September through May of each year the Sun City Lions Clubs receive these magazines about the 15th of each month. We have 10 routes assigned to our club and 7 of those are assigned to a specific Lions club member for delivery. We receive $186.66 per month for delivering 2,074 magazines.
Sun City Lions Recycle Association:
This is an incorporated business totally owned by the Sun City Host Lions Club. It is operated by a board of 7 officers selected from the Host Lions Club. Its function is to recycle newspapers, corrugated cardboard, telephone books, aluminum cans and glass containers and sell them. Any profit from this business is sent to the Host Lions Club. This is the MAJOR fund raiser of the Host Lions Clubs Charity Fund. We do not have pancake breakfasts, spaghetti dinners or yard sales so the only participation of our members in this project is to work in the 3 recycle bins cleaning the paper and cardboard and putting it in bins.
Salvation Army Bell Ringers Project:
In November and December, each year the Salvation Army asks the Lions Clubs, Kiwanis, Rotary and other clubs to volunteer to help them raise money for their year long support of needy persons. Our club signs up to work certain days from 9am to 5pm in 2 hour shifts ringing their bells and tending their “RED KETTLES”.
Flags for First Graders Project:
Each year in February near the President’s birthday holidays, our club goes to 7 elementary schools and presents each first grader with a small American flag. We perform a ceremony that includes the brief history of the flag and lead the class in a pledge to the flag.
White Cane Days Project:
Each year in February all of the Lions clubs of the Sun cities have a solicitation to help the blind. We sign up to work 2 hour shifts at an assigned business or store and all money collected goes to our Charity Fund to help the Lions Vision Center and the Lions Sight and Hearing Center and the Center for the Blind.
Eye Transport to Tucson Project:
Pickup and deliver harvested eyes from Sun Health Research Center (Sun City) and deliver to the University of Arizona Ophthalmology Research Center (Tucson). You need to signup for this project if you want to deliver the eyes. You will be placed on a call list and called when needed. If you can not go when they call they will move to the next person on the list.
Our Club also collects recycled eyeglasses and hearing aids and delivers them to the Sight and Hearing office in Phoenix for distribution to needy persons all over the world.
Each member is encouraged to participate in as many of these projects as possible.
