Work team today in the visual screening at Jowinio School, Thanks to the school, the nurse, teachers, parents and volunteers for allowing us to help the children. Thanks Lios Dennis from Camillus Lions Club and Hanna from CVR Lions Club.

FEBRUARY 


This week the Club made contact thanks to Nancy Eaton (Director of United Way of CNY) with Monica Johnson, she is blind as a result of diabetic retinopathy, her social work is to educate other blind people in the use of new technologies to have a tool of work and to be able to rejoin the labor field.  Syracuse has invaluable human resources that support our club.


January

We welcome the year 2023 in our first meeting of the year a the Lion Becky Fuller belonging to Diabetes Lions Club who gave us an excellent presentation about diabetes and its influence on diaabetic renopathy.

 


December

Club Excellence 2021-2022

We had the presence of Sheila Austin, RN Director of Emmaus Ministry of the Syracuse, she spoke to us about her magnificent work, extraordinary experience of how through the years she has built this organization that serves the poor and homeless in Syracuse.


 

At the second meeting in December, León James Gamble obtained recognition for 10 years of service and the club also recognized the work of Sheree who attended us on behalf of the Hotel during this year.

 

November 

We ended October participating in the district lions convention in the company of the district governor Sheree Vora(1), and  the opportunity to screen children at  Ihnsan School of Excellence (2) .  The two monthly meetings were not lacking, in the first meeting some of our members received their distinctive vest(3).

We join the event
"Musical party for the eyes and ears" convened by Aurora of CNY Inc who does a magnificent job, congratulations from our club.

It was a joy for us and the pleasure of serving children hand in hand with PEACE CNY. 

Our Medellin Metropolitan twinned club also helping children. we collaborate by sponsoring some children's glasses and donating frames

We were present at the NYS RV Show. On October 7, the draw will be held to find out who is the winner of Fifty / fifty.

The International Lions Club Convention recently held  in Montreal and Douglas Russell, PDG is the representative of our Club, the Lions of the world come together to share, teach and learn. We contacted Lion Mercedes Phillips, representative of the Lions Club of Panama and Lion Humberto Rosales, Lions Club of Colombia, and glasses complete with prescritions were sent that the communities may use them in their visual screening campaigns carried out in their respective cities. We serve.

Siracuse Host Lions Club has had the opportunity to sponsor the Lions Club of Panama, they have made their annual camp with 300 children including lodging and food, visual screening. Congratulations Lions City Panama.

New meeting place.

It is a privilege that three Syracuse Host Lions Club members are worthy of Melvin Jones Fellow recognition, Lion John Proper, Lion James Gamble and Lion Edwin Conney.

We were also joined by Nancy Kert Eaton, president of the United Way of Central New York.

On this occasion, Lions Fred Noak received a 45  year chevron  and Michael O'connor received a 40 year chevron for their service to Lions! 85 years of service by these 2 fine Lions!

The Lions Club in continuous training of its members, on this occasion a district meeting in which representatives of the Syracuse Host Lions Club participated at Delta Lake.

 


We continue with our visual screening work, this time at the Jowonio school.


Week 18 to 22 April 2022

We conducted visual screening in four different district schools. Spot Vision Screen  cameras are used providing a reliable, objective assessment and instantly detects the indication of six major issues:

• Hyperopia: farsightedness

• Myopia: nearsightedness

• Astigmatism: blurred vision

• Anisometropia: unequal refractive power

• Gaze: eye alignment measurement

• Anisocoria: unequal pupil size

Results Support Accurate Referrals to Eye Care Specialists.
