Relay for Life:  Viera Lion's Prancers

The American Cancer Society 2011 Relay For Life of Viera Suntree, FL happens May 7 & 8, 2011 at the Viera High School.  Our team, the Viera Lions Prancers, will camp out overnight, take turns walking around the track and sell Hot Starbucks Coffee to raise money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society save more lives from cancer.  By joining or donating to our team, you will be a part of a life-changing event that gives everyone in the community a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that takes too much.

Diabetes Awareness:

In the United States alone there are over 10 million people who have been diagnosed with diabetes.  There are another 5.5 million people who are unaware that they have diabetes.  Undiagnosed, diabetes can be very damaging to the body.  A screening test can detect diabetes.
Diabetes and Sight Loss:  People with diabetes are at risk of losing their sight due to Diabetic Retinopathy.  This is the leading cause of new cases of blindness in people between the ages of 20 to 74.  Other complications include Glaucoma, Kidney damage, Coronary artery disease and Nerve damage.
Diabetic screening is sponsored by a Lions Club International Foundation grant.  The free screening, using a tiny drop of blood, taken from the finger, gives a blood glucose level.  A POSTCARD WITH BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVEL RESULTS is given to each person tested.
It only takes a few minutes.
All ages are welcome.
YOUNG PEOPLE ARE ENCOURAGED TO BE SCREENED.
Lions Clubs and Diabetes Awareness:  Our work supports diabetes education, treatment, research and early detection.
