Changing Lives, One Pair at a Time

In just about any dresser drawer, one can find a pair of eyeglasses that are no longer being used. That same pair of eyeglasses can once again serve a useful purpose and change another person's life.

Lions Recycle for Sight

Pile of used eyeglassesThat's why Lions Clubs International started the Lions Recycle for Sight program. Everyone can help and it's easy!

Throughout the year, Lions in our Anacortes club collect used eyeglasses through a network of eyeglass boxes throughout town. The locations of our boxes are: the Anacortes Post Office, Anacortes Senior Center, Island Optometry, Island Eye Physicians & Surgeons at Island Hospital and local non-profits Kiwanis Thrift Shop and Soroptomist thrift store. The Predecessors shop, United Methodist Church and Anacortes Baptist Church will also call us to pick up used glasses. We ask that you only donate the glasses or lens in a small bag and keep or recycle their cases, as they can fill up the boxes quickly. We also accept hearing aids.

The glasses are picked up by our volunteers, hand counted and then delivered to our regional facility in Seattle, WA.  Most of the recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact.

How You Can Help

If you have used eyeglasses you are no longer wearing, please consider recycling them by dropping them off into one of our various collection boxes.Lions accept prescription and reading glasses, sunglasses and loose lenses in small plastic bags.Children's glasses are especially needed. We also accept hearing aids.

Remember to keep the cases or donate to local thrift shops, and drop off only the glasses.
