What We Do – Baker City Lions Club
At the Baker City Lions Club, we believe in the power of community and service. Our members are actively engaged in year-round projects that support youth, families, and neighbors across Baker County. Here's a look at how we serve:
🧑🤝🧑 Community Engagement & Recruitment
-
Lion’s Night (Jan 8, 2026) – An open-invite event for current and prospective members, featuring a social hour, mission overview, and Lions Club information session. Local leaders and community partners are invited to join!
🏀 Youth Sports Support
-
District & State Basketball Tournaments – We assist with ticketing and event support in organized shifts during 1A tournaments, helping schools and spectators enjoy a seamless experience.
📻 Fundraising for Service
-
Radio Days (Spring) – One of our largest fundraisers! We sell radio ads in partnership with Elkhorn Media and keep all proceeds to fund Lions service projects.
👓 Vision & Health Services
-
Eyeglass Collection – Partnering with local businesses and the women’s prison, we collect used eyeglasses to be refurbished and distributed. Glasses are sent to the District Convention for processing.
-
School Vision Screenings – We collaborate with school districts and Lions Sight & Hearing to screen students from kindergarten to high school. Parents are notified with an opt-out option.
🏞 Community Events
-
Miner’s Jubilee – We host breakfast both days of the event, serving hundreds of community members. Cornhole and horseshoe tournament may return in future years
-
Community Night Out (1st Tuesday in August) – A chance to connect with neighbors, families, and local law enforcement in Gieser Pollman Park.
🎄 Holiday Service Projects
-
Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting – We serve hot chocolate and coffee (donated by Sorbenots) and warm up the crowd with burn barrels courtesy of Orchard Wood Products. Decorations and a welcoming booth add to the festive spirit.
-
Lights in Geiser-Pollman Park – In partnership with OTEC, we light up the Lions Shelter, Bandstand, and Gazebo with holiday cheer. Lights are removed following the January board meeting.
-
Lions Christmas Dinner – A time-honored tradition, this dinner is a celebration for club members. In 2026, it will be held at the Elks Lodge, with Gregg serving as Social Chair.
