BEDFORD LIONS CLUB

36 HOLLAND AVE., BEDFORD    B4A 1L9

NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA

The Bedford Lions Club was formed in 1946 and is  proudly serving our community for over 76 year.

Over the years we have completed many projects, large and small. One of our first major projects was the completion of the Dr.Gerald J. LeBrun Arena, which  served as Bedford's only ice facility until the completion of the BMO Center in 2011. Other notable recreational areas made possible by the Bedford Lions Club are the Lions Outdoor Swimming Pool and the adjacent Lions Playground.

Over the following years, the Lions built the addition to the arena building that houses the large community hall whit a modern kitchen facility. It is commonly  known as the "Lions Den". This hall is available to the public on a rental bases.  Over the years many a couple enjoyed their wedding reception in the Lions Den. Some have even held their 25th anniversary, and others their 50th anniversary there.

Another recreational facility our citizens enjoy is the Bedford Leisure Club. This facility houses a Seniors Club, a furniture repair and restoration shop and is the home of the Bedford Lawn Bowling Club. This also is courtesy of the Bedford Lions Club.

In recent years the Bedford Lions donated $150,000.00  matching both the Province and HRM to create a country park setting with a pristine lake swimming area..."Bedford Lions Sandy Lake Park". This excellent facility is located at the end of Smith Road off the Hammond Plains Road, in the heart of Bedford.

Of course it would be impossible to name all the contributions Bedford Lions have made over the years. To name a few, a $100,000.00 donation to the new Cobequid Community Health Center, $25,000.00 in scholarships to CPA High School students and more than $20,000.00 to the Diabetes Foundation. Many, many charities, and individuals in need of emergency assistance have also been helped.

We have provided thousands of dollars for humanatarion disaster relief, such as the Quebec Ice Storm, Hurricane Katrina and the Japanees Tsunami. Many donated eyeglasses have been collected and helped  save the vision of   thousands of individuals in Third World Countries.

The Bedford Lions Club has been an active and vibrant part of our community, and will be for many years to come. Has life been good to you? Are you a community minded individual? Do you believe we should help those less fortunate than ourselves? Like to meet new friends and expand your social life?
