CCLC ELECTED OFFICERS FOR LY 2012-2013

            Candon City Lions Club elected its new set of officers for lion year 2012-2013 on March 30, 2012, 7:20 in the evening at JFK Health Care Center, 4th Floor, St. Martin de Porres Hospital, Candon City. The said election was facilitated by the active president Ruby Rose Pe, PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing, VDG Evelyn Pacquing and IP Purisima Florendo and the club secretary. Lion Dr. Francisco Lopez, the Executive Dean, North Cluster Campuses of Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College was elected president. He asks the support of everybody and the continued cooperation and support they are giving to the club when his term starts on July 2012. The election ended with a fellowship snack among the 52 members who participated on the said election of officers. The group also went to visit the wake of a lion member of Candon City Ilocandia Lions Club at Candon City.

 

CCLC HOSTED FELLOWSHIP

            Friendships know no boundaries and language is not a barrier for the lions to come together and fellowship with one another. After the stressful but happy satisfying day of service, lions come together in a fellowship hosted by Candon City Lions Club at Santiago Cove Resort, Santiago, Ilocos Sur at 7 o’clock in the evening with a Hawaiian motif. Lions came in their best dress of Hawaiian. Dances, bonding and laughter filled the venue as the Korean lions and CCLC dance their hearts out. A sumptuous dinner was served before the program. Lions from Baguio City and Pangasinan came also to join the said fellowship. DG Dr. Westly Rosario & Lady Joy, 2nd VDG Editha Datuin and PDG Elmer Datuin came also to grace the occasion. 30 CCLC members participated in the said event with the supportive leaders PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing, 1stVDG Evelyn Pacquing & club president Ruby Rose Pe. Lions from campus lions club the JFK, Southern JFK  & Ilocos Sur Campus came also to give more fun in the occasion being young and vibrant. Messages of thanks from VDG Evelyn Pacquing, PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing, DG Dr. Westly Rosario & the very kind Gov. Young, Sik Kim who stressed his appreciation on the success of the three-day mission. He assured that the district will continue to support whatever endeavors the different clubs in the district will forego. The Korean lions gave also tokens to the district officers. The fellowship ended with a sky lantern flight, singing of “one little candle” and the bond of friendship with the singing of “If We Hold On Together”.

DISTRICT 356-D SOUTH KOREA DONATED SCHOOL SUPPLIES

            While the Free Medical Mission was held, the 15-member lions of District 356-D South Korea with 1stVDG Evelyn Pacquing and PCC/PDG Evelyn Pacquing went to the nearby Santiago Central School and gave their donations of school supplies to the elementary pupils. The said school supplies worth $300 donated by the Korean lions are composed of notebooks, pad papers, pencils and ball pens. Gov. Young, Sik Kim lead in giving the said school supplies to the elementary pupils to the delight of the latter. The principal and teachers of the said school were also very happy for the blessings given to their pupils. The shy smiles of the children were their happy way of thanking the lions.

 

 

DISTRICT 356-D SOUTH KOREA & CCLC CONDUCTED JOINT FREE MEDICAL MISSION            

Believe that the entire world can change when we come together as lions and problems get smaller when we get together as lions. These very inspiring words from our great leaders in lions had been realized again as the District 356-D South Korea and Candon City Lions Club conducted a joint free medical mission at Santiago Municipal Grounds, Santiago, Ilocos Sur on March 26, 2012 from 8 o’clock in the morning until 3 o’clock in the evening. The said mission was flocked by thousands of people from Santiago and nearby towns. The mission includes medical consultation for adults and pedia, distribution of eyeglasses, optha, giving of free medicines and even free injection of vitamin B-complex from korea. The said Korean lions also gave free medicines and even conducted acupuncture on some patients. Cataract surgery was also done and patients were brought to St. Martin de Porres Hospital for their operation. Korean lion Doctor Song,  Man Ho helped lion doctors Ian Moll and Arlene Galvan in the cataract operation. Volunteer doctors and nurses came to help in the mission. Lions from Baggao Lions Club headed by Dr. Dan Alejandro and Cagayan North Lions Club headed by Loreto Valdepeñas came all the way from Cagayan to help in the mission. 52 lion members of CCLC participated and helped in the mission headed by the club president Ruby Rose Pe, 1stVDG Evelyn Pacquing and PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing. 15 members from District 356-D South Korea headed by Gov. Young, Sik Kim headed also the Korean lions. Municipal Employees of the municipality of Santiago headed by the Mayor Miranda also facilitated in the mission. A total of 1,194 patients were served during the said mission. A very successful and meaningful mission indeed as the happy faces and shy smiles of the people served reflected in their eyes how thankful they are for the lions that came to helped them.

CCLC WELCOMED DISTRICT 356-D SOUTH KOREA

            Filipinos are known for their hospitality and the members of the Candon City Lions Club proved once again this virtue by welcoming the delegates of District 356-D South Korea for the joint free medical mission headed by Gov. Young, Sik Kim on March 25, 2012, 7:20 in the evening at PCC/PDG Dr. Boots and 1stVDG Evelyn Pacquing’s house. The said welcome dinner was held in their garden. 20 members of the CCLC welcomed the said delegates. Members of the Cagayan North Lions Club were also present in the said event as they came all the way from Cagayan to join the said activities in Candon City. A short program followed after a hearty dinner prepared by the supportive lion couple Dr. & Mrs. Modesto Pacquing and tokens were given to the said lion delegates. The president of the Club Ruby Rose Pe gave her welcome address followed by a short message of 1stVDg Evelyn Pacquing. Gov. Young, Sik Kim thanked the CCLC for the very warm welcome and the continued good relationship of the two sister districts and the two countries. A very nice entertainment was given to the delight of the Korean Lions who even danced with the said group of entertainers from JFK Campus Lions Club. The said occasion successfully ended at 9:15 in the evening.

CCLC HELD SPECIAL BOARD MEETINGS   

            MARCH 10, 2012. After the successful participation in the fun run held at Salcedo, Ilocos Sur, CCLC officers and some members assembled once again at PCC/PDG Dr. Boots and 1stVDG Evelyn Pacquing’s house at 9:15 in the morning to have a meeting for the development of the upcoming activities ( Free Medical Mission, Welcome Dinner & Fellowship) that had been tackled during the board meeting on March 2, 2012. 30 lion members were present. The president, Ruby Rose S. Pe informed some developments on the activities that will be undertaken and asked the different chair committees on their assigned tasks. Updates were also informed by the different chairmen. Suggestions were made for the betterment in the conduct of the said activities and were approved by the body. Other matters included the club twinning with Texas Lions Club and the upcoming elections. Meeting adjourned at 11:02 in the morning.

            

March 16, 2012, 6:38 P.M. Another special board meeting was held at Lion Sofronia Pico’s House at Sulvec, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur to discussed further the develpments of the activities to be undertaken on the upcoming medical mission, welcome dinner and fellowship night on March 25-26, 2012. 15 officers of CCLC are present, 1 from JFK Campus Lions Club and 1 from Southern JFK Ilocos Sur TESDA Campus Lions Club were also present. Different suggestions were made to finalize some events in the said activities. Updates on the fund to be used were also reported. Meeting adjourned a 9:17. A fellowship dinner was held in celebration also of the birthday of lion Sofronia Pico who is the host for the evening.

         

 

 

 

  March 22, 2012, 6:32 P.M. A special board was held once again to finalized and sum up all the activities to be undertaken. Since it is for finalization, 10 concerned officers were present on the said meeting held at Dr. & Mrs. Modesto Pacquing’s house. Program for the welcome dinner ad fellowship were presented and suggestions were made. Funds were also tackled. Another agenda tackled was the upcoming joint medical mission with Baguio City Host Lions Club at Pugo, La Union. Meeting was successfully adjourned at 8:52.

 

 

 

 

 

CCLC JOINED SALCEDO LIONS CLUB FUN RUN

                In any organization, in order to execute any service activity, it will first have to raise funds for the club’s future activities. As they are still waiting for the final approval of their club application from the Lions Clubs International, the Salcedo Lions Club in Ilocos Sur, organized & sponsored by the Candon City Lions Club had already made their first ever activity. Their project was Fun Run together with the Local Government Unit of Salcedo, Ilocos Sur which was held last March 10 2012 and have fascinated a enormous number of people from small children to old seniors in their own community and neighboring towns as well. Over a thousand people joined & supported their fund-raising event. It was the first fun run conducted yet in Salcedo. 35 CCLC members joined and sweated out from the start to finish line headed by their active leaders, the club president Ruby Rose Pe, PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing and 1stVDG Evelyn Pacquing. It was definitely a very successful event.  As always, lions ever on the go!

 

BOARD MEETING HELD FOR MARCH

               Club officers of Candon City Lions Club held its monthly board meeting for March on the 2nd day of the month at 6:50 in the evening at St. Martin De Porres Hospital, Candon City. Fifteen officers were present in the meeting with the active club president Ruby S. Pe presiding. Matters deliberated were the medical mission with Dist. 356-D South Korea at Santiago, Ilocos Sur and it was discussed by PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing the chairman for medical missions. This mission will be done in three days, March 24, 25 & 26 with the first two days at Dagupan and Baguio City respectively. A welcome dinner on the eve of 25th will also be held at Dr. & Mrs. Modesto Pacquing’s house and will be hosted by the said couple. Fellowship will be done on night of 26th with a Hawaiian motif at Santiago Cove Resort, Santiago, Ilocos Sur . Different committees and assignments were also given. Information dissemination will be done in radio and tarpaulins to be posted on sites to inform the public about the mission. Dr, Boots Pacquing suggested that a weekly meeting will be done to update the preparations on the said activities. Other matters discussed were the participation of the club in the fun run of the newly formed Salcedo Lions Club at Salcedo, Ilocos Sur on March 10, 2012 at 6AM. Special board meeting will follow after the said fund run. The president also included the agenda the upcoming elections of the new set of officers for lion year 2012-213 on March 30, 2012 at JFK, 4th floor, St. Martin de Porres Hospital, Candon City. The president reiterated once more the call for the members to be active and support every endeavor the club has. Meeting was adjourned 9:05 in the evening.

FEBRUARY

FEBRUARY BOARD MEETING HELD

            The active club president Ruby Rose Pe presided the board meeting held on February 8, 2012, 6:30 in the evening @ St.Martin de Porres Hospital, Candon City, Ilocos Sur to discuss matters concerning the club with 13 officers present. Matters deliberated were the status of funds, upcoming projects and different club activities like the upcoming medical mission discussed by PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing at ISPSC Sta. Maria and of District 356 of South Korea Lions in the district. It was agreed by the body that the said mission will be held at Santiago, Ilocos Sur. Other matters concerning the club were also discussed. Matters regarding the medical mission were. Meeting was adjourned at 7:41 in the evening followed by a fellowship snack sponsored by the birthday celebrants of February.

 

 

PictureCCLC JOINED DISTRICT 301-C 3RD CABINET MEETING & GEN. ASSEMBLY @ TUGUEGARAO, CAGAYAN

Different clubs of District 301-C Northern Philippines flocked its way to the north to Cagayan Valley for the 3rd Cabinet and General Assembly Meeting at Ivory Hotel, Tuguegarao City on February 11, 2012, 9 o’clock in the morning. 12 members of the Candon City Lions Club attended the said event and were led by the active leaders, Club President Ruby Rose Pe, PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing and 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing. The said activity was the first in Cagayan Valley after many years of Lion's hibernation from the area. The meeting was presided by the District Governor Dr. Westly Rosario. First part of the program is the opening program. Different participating clubs were recognized and gave their best roars. Membership key award were given to Club President Ruby Rose Pe  & PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing.  A hearty lunch was served during the break. Second part of the program was the plenary session. Minutes of the previous meeting was presented and was approved. Reports from the district governor, region chairs and zone chairs were made to update member’s status of the district and different club activities. Different issues were also settled. Next venue of the Cabinet and General Assembly will be at San Fernando City, La Union as approved by the body. The program ended successfully at 3:35 in the afternoon.

CCLC FELLOWSHIP WITH OTHER CLUBS IN THE DISTRICT

Since it was the first in Cagayan Valley after many years of lion’s existence in the province, a fellowship was held in the evening of February 11, 2012 at Ivory Hotel at 8 o’clock in the evening. It was a fun filled evening as the members of the different clubs bonded with each other. It was distinguished as the best festivity so far noted by all the Lions who attended. The following day of February 12, 2012 the fellowship continued with a visit to the neighboring City of Tabuk, Province of Kalinga. Provincial Governor Josel Baac who is also a lion member hosted & prepared a lavish lunch for all the members in his place from the mountain top overlooking the grandeur of the place. It was indeed an enjoyable and memorable event for all the lions of District 301-C.

 

 

PictureCCLC CONDUCTED MEDICAL MISSION WTH ISPSC @STA. MARIA

            The Candon City Lions Club and Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College joined forces as they conducted a mini-medical mission at ISPSC Sta. Maria Campus on February 23, 2012. The said mission started at 8 o’clock in the morning and was flocked by hundreds of indigent patients from the town of Sta. Maria and nearby towns. Services given on the said event were distribution of reading eyeglasses, cholesterol screening, foot screening, diabetes screening and minor surgical operation. 52 members of the Candon City Lions Club participated the said mission under the leadership of the active president Ruby Rose Pe and the supportive 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing & PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing who did the minor surgical operation. The said mission is also supported by the dynamic president of ISPSC and at the same time a lion himself Dr. Rafael B. Querubin. Young and vibrant active lions from JFK Campus Lions Club & TESDA Healthcare Southern JFK Campus Lions Club joined also the said mission. A total of 355 patients (Distributed Reading Eyeglasses = 200, Minor Surgical Operation = 4, Cholesterol Screening = 42, Foot Screening = 20, Diabetes Screening = 85) came to avail the services given free by the said medical mission. The said mission is also supported by the Kansas City World Outreach Lions Club and the World Outreach Foundation, Inc. of Missouri, USA. Continuously, lions are always at the heart of selfless service.

PictureCCLC CONTINUES ITS DIABETES AWARENESS PROGRAM

  To continue its free diabetes screening, the Candon City Lions Club held this activity at Barangay Darapidap, Candon City, Ilocos Sur on January 28, 2012 at 7 o’clock in the morning. The said activity was done at the Barangay Hall of the said barangay with 37 members present with the leadership of the club 1st Vice President and Chairman of the Diabetes Dr. Annie de Guzman. The said endeavor was also supported by the barangay council of the barangay who disseminated the information to the community. A total of 68 patients were seen and screened. 35 of them had high blood sugar levels. After the said screening was a lecture on the effects of having high blood sugars by the good-naturedly lion doctors Dr. Modesto Pacquing & Dr. Annie De Guzman. Free coffee and bread were also served for the patients and members as well as volunteers. The screening successfully ended at 9:15 in the morning.

 

CCLC HELD AN EMERGENCY MEETING & FELLOWSHIP WITH LIONS FROM BAGGAO, CAGAYAN

            After the free cataract surgery, an emergency meeting was conducted by the CCLC with the members present during the said event at 5:30 in the afternoon at SMPH Board room with the 1st Vice President of the Club Dr. Annie de Guzman presiding. Matters discussed were the status of project fund and 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing informed that a fund from the Kansas City Lions Club and the World Outreach Foundation had already received. Other matters discussed were the upcoming medical missions of the twin district in South Korea, District 356 and the just concluded free cataract surgery discussed by Dr. Modesto Pacquing and the upcoming 3rd district general assembly at Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. 15 Lions were present in the said meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 6:25 in the evening after which is the fellowship with fellow lions from Baggao Lions Club. A toast was made for welcoming the said lions and after which is a hearty dinner hosted by the good couple Dr. & Mrs. Modesto Pacquing. Friendship never ends for lions who served selflessly.

PictureCCLC CONDUCTS MISSION ON FREE CATARACT OPERATION

        The Candon City Lions Club & the Baggao Lions continues to give light to the needy as they conducted a mini-mission on Free Cataract Surgery at St. Martin De Porres Hospital, Candon City, Ilocos Sur on January 27, 2012. The said mission catered 3 patients all the way from Baggao, Cagayan who are accompanied by the ever supportive members of the Baggao Lions Club and other patients from the province of Ilocos Sur, one from Sta. Maria and one from Caoayan. The ever caring lion doctor Dr. Sebastian Moll and volunteer doctor Dr. Rolando Vermudez conducted the said surgery together with the help of volunteer nurses. There is a  fixed Lions Sight Center located at St Martin de Porres Hospital in Candon City and is accepting indigent referrals from other Lions districts as well. The team from Baggao is wholeheartedly accommodated by the ever helpful lion couple leaders PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto and 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing. Other members of CCLC made the members of Baggao more comfortable with their presence and fellowship. This continuous mission is supported partly by the Kansas City Lions Club and the World Outreach Foundation. The said event ended successfully with the successful operation done with the patients.

PicturePCC OF SOUTH KOREA VISITS DISTRICT 301-C

Lions Past Council Chairman and PDG Jong-Hwan Lee, of the District 356 South Korea made a surprised lone visit in District 301-C particularly at Baguio City on January 22, 2012. PCC/PDG Lee had visited friends around South-East Asia's nations and that’s why he made the surprise visit. Furthermore, he added that district 356-D headed by district Governor Kim plan to visit District 301-C on March this year. The friendly PCC/PDG Jong-Hwan Lee was accommodated by the active leaders and lions in the district, 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing, 2nd VDG Editha Datuin, PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing, PDG Atty. Elmer Datuin and lions Marissa Marilla and Joanne Balderas.

 

 

 

PictureDISTRICT 301-C VISITS TWIN DISTRICT 356-D @ SOUTH KOREA

          Brotherhood and friendships knows no boundaries and lions proved it once again of their committed service not only to the needy but for their fellow lions as District 356-D South Korea Lions invited their sister District 301-C to visit South Korea last January 12-15 2012. The 8 member-delegation is headed by the District Governor Dr. Westly Rosario, 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing & 2nd VDG Atty. Editha Datuin. DG Westly Rosario and his delegation together with 356-D DG Kim Young Sik & their district officers made a courtesy call to the Chairman  & Governor of Cheongbuk Province of Seoul South Korea last January 12, 2012. The parties had a pleasant discussion about the Philippines & South Korea good relationship since the last world war. Aside from the courtesy call, the delegation was treated with a visit to the famous landmarks of the province as well as a treat to snowboarding. They have visited the demilitarized zone (DMZ) border line that split up the two nations of South & North Korea. The group was treated grandiosely by fellow Korean Lions. The visit is an astonishing experience as the group had to adjust to the very cold winter season in the country.

         Lions 301-C DG Westly Rosario and his delegation together with 356-D DG Kim Young Sik & their district officers made a courtesy call to the Chairman & Governor of Cheongbuk Province of Seoul South Korea last January 12, 2012.The parties had a pleasant discussion about the Philippines & South Korea good relationship since the last world war.

CCLC DONATES FOR TYPHOON SENDONG VICTIMS

            Philippines were recently hit by typhoon Sendong on December and devastated the province of Cagayan de Oro City and nearby provinces. Thousands were left homeless, hundreds are missing and dead. They were left with nothing and the only way to survive is a help from others. Candon City Lions Club answered this call from its devastated countrymen and initially donated 3,000 pesos for the victims and will still give additional amount as it continues to ask help from CCLC members. Maybe it’s just a small amount but it speaks of its mission in the service to the needy.

CCLC HELD ITS JANUARY BOARD MEETING

            The officers of the Candon City Lions Club held its board meeting for January on the 10th day, 6:30 in the evening @ St.Martin de Porres Hospital, Candon City, Ilocos Sur to discuss matters regarding the club. The said meeting was presided by the active club president Ruby Rose Pe with 15 officers present. Matters discussed were the status of funds, upcoming projects and club activities like the holding of a valentine’s party, medical missions, free cataract operation for patients coming from Baggao, Cagayan and other matters. Matters regarding the medical mission were discussed by PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing. Meeting was adjourned at 8:32 followed by a fellowship

CCLC ATTENDED SAN FERNANDO HOST & LD INDUCTION CEREMONIES

            December 22, 2011, 6 o’clock in the evening at Rose Bowl Restaurant, Bauang, La Union, the group of 8 members of the CCLC attended the induction ceremonies of the San Fernando Host and LD Lions Club. The said group is headed by the 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing & the club President Ruby Rose Pe. They showed support in this events of the clubs in the district and continue to renew the bonds of friendship and the continued for passion in service.

 

 

PictureCCLC SUPPORTS CAMPUS LIONS CHARTER INDUCTION

            As guiding lions to the newly chartered campus lions club, the Candon City Lions Club showed support to the joint induction ceremonies of the Ilocos Sur Campus Lion Club & TESDA Healthcare Southern JFK Campus Lions Club on December 17, 2011, 4 o’clock in the afternoon at Bistro, Candon City, Ilocos Sur. Around 50 lions welcomed the potential members of the 2 campus lions club. Guest of honor 7 speaker is the District Governor Dr. Westly Rosario. 2nd VDG Editha Datuin was also present and gave a message accompanied by the supportive PDG Elmer Datuin. PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing gave also an inspirational message and asked the members of the new campus clubs to be active and participate in all the endeavors of the club for the good of the needy. 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing inducted the new members while DG Dr. Westly Rosario inducted the officers. Reading & presentation of charter & banners were also done by the DG, 1st & VDG and the guiding lions. Intermission numbers were also given which added highlight to the occasion. It was indeed a wonderful event especially for the new members. A sumptuous dinner followed after the program.

CCLC GIFT-GIVING @ GAWAD-KALINGA

            What is more wonderful to do this Christmas is by sharing and giving the blessings we have to the needy and making a difference for others and the CCLC proved once again of their desire to give especially this Christmas as they conducted gift-giving at Gawad-Kalinga, Candon City, Ilocos Sur on December 23, 2011 at 2 o’clock in afternoon. Gawad-Kalinga is a shelter created by the local government to cater the needs of indigent people in the community with no houses. In Candon City, there are 2 places wherein they have created these shelters for indigent people, one in Tamurong Primero and the other at Bagani Ubbog. 50 families were benefited by this CCLC gift-giving. A noche-buena pack of groceries were given. This endeavor was led by the active leaders of the club, Pres. Ruby Rose Pe, 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing and PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing with 15 members present.

CCLC CHRISTMAS WITH THE CHILDREN

            As they say Christmas is for the children and 2 days before Christmas the Candon City Lions Club acted Santa Claus on December 23, 2011, 1 o’clock in the afternoon at Greenwich Restaurant, Candon City, Ilocos Sur for selected 20 children from Tablac Elementary School, Candon City taught by Catechists. The bright smiles, excitement in the faces of the children, small laughters filled the venue. 15 Lions headed by the club president Ruby Rose Pe, 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing anf PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing were there as Santa Claus as they are in bright red Santa hat and red shirts. Songs, dances and games were done to the delight of the children. Gifts were given to them and a hearty food was served. As a way of thanking the lions, the children gave presentations as they dance and sing. Seeing their warm smiles and sincere thank you really warm the heart for truly Christmas means sharing especially for children

            Clubs in the district gathered on December 10, 2011 at BFAR, Dagupan City for the District 301-C Christmas program. The program started at 6 o’clock in the evening with cocktails with everyone in cowboy attire as the style for the night. A hearty dinner was served and program followed. DECEMBER BOARD MEETING

            Christmas is in the air and the Candon City Lions club planned activities for the holidays as they gather for their monthly board meeting on December 14, 2011, 6:50 in the evening at Lion Sofronia Pico’s house, Sulvec, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur. It was presided by the dynamic club president Ruby Rose Pe. 12 officers were present. Matters discussed were the treasurer’s report about the expenses incurred on different past activities, funds raised during fund raising, administrative fund report; the upcoming gift-giving at Gawad Kalinga, Candon City and the inclusion of 20 kids to be given with gifts and a treat at a fast food house. The upcoming Campus Charter Induction program was also discussed and the club’s Christmas program. Meeting was adjourned at 8:10 in the evening. A fellowship dinner followed.

 

CCLC VISITED FUNERAL OF A LEO MEMBER

                           It was a very gloomy day as the Candon City Lions Club and Candon City Leo Club paid their last respect to a member of a leo who had passed away due to a tragic accident. The group of 25 lions and 15 leos went to visit the said wake of leo Jojo Ibrahim Mendoza. It was also one of showing sympathy and support to the family of the leo member who passed away.

 

 

NOVEMBER 2011

CCLC MET WITH 2 NEWLY LCI APPROVED CAMPUS LIONS CLUB

The Candon City Lions Club met on November 29, 2011 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon the members of the two newly chartered campus Lion's clubs, The Ilocos Sur Southern JFK Campus Lions Club, the TESDA Healthcare Campus Lions Club. This clubs were the two recently chartered clubs in district 301-C. The group discussed their forthcoming charter presentation before Christmas. It was their first official meeting with their sponsoring club. Students as they are, they were inspired to begin their commitment to civic service.

 

CCLC MEMBERS ATTENDED DIFFERENT OSEAL ACTIVITIES

WOMENS SYMPOSIUM: 10 members of the group of women of the Candon City Lions Club participated in the women’s symposium held on November 26, 2011 at Meeting Room 4-5, SMX Convention Center at 9:30-10:30 in the morning. The topic discussed was Menopause Matters. Speaker of the said symposium was Dr. Ma. Corazon Zaida N. Gamilla, an OB-Gynecologist. After the discussion, an open forum was made. Different questions from the participants were asked and were readily answered by the good speaker. It is a very educational and enlightening symposium especially for women.

 

LADIES PROGRAM: Another activity after the women’s symposium was made and it was a fashion show for the ladies program. It was a Fashion Show of Renowned Young Fashion Designers of the Philippines at SMX Function 4 at 10:30-12:00. This program was not only for women but for all lions interested. 12 from the CCLC joined the said event and watched joyfully the fashion show.

OTHER ACTIVITIES: 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing attended the meeting with the 1st International Vice President. Ruby Rose Pe, the CCLC Club President attended also the meeting with the International President Wing-Kun Tam.

CCLC FELLOWSHIPS WITH SOUTH KOREAN LIONS:  During the duration of the OSEAL Forum, on the night of November 25, 2011 at the ground of Amazing Show building at 7 o’clock in the evening 7 members of the group of Candon City Lions Club led by the active 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing, PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing, Club President Ruby Rose Pe fellowshipped with the twin sister district 356 of South Korea of District 301-C. The said fellowship was also attended by the district governor of 301-C Dr. Westly Rosario, 2nd VDG Editha Datuin as well as other officers of the district. It was a night of camaraderie, friendships and full of fun.

CCLC FELLOWSHIPS WITH CAGAYAN NORTH LIONS CLUB:  To strengthen the bond of brotherhood and sisterhood, the Candon City Lions Club and the Cagayan North Lions Club held a fellowship dinner at the Aristocrat Restaurant, Malate, Manila on November 26, 2011 at 7 in the evening hosted by the couple leaders PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto and 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing. 

 

 

CCLC ATTENDED 50TH OSEAL FORUM

            As the organizers have said, the 50th Orient and Southeast Asian Lions (OSEAL) Forum celebrated its golden year by returning to where it was first held, the Philippines with the theme “Golden Service Towards the Future”. The said forum was held at the Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Manila, Philippines. It was indeed a very rare opportunity and honor for the Candon City Lions Club group to be attending such event. Twenty one members of the CCLC attended the forum. The International Lions forum is held in Manila in rotation with the other Asia nations every seven years. It was indeed a rare opportunity meeting again the Lions in the 15 member Orient South-East Asia nations. As accustomed, the South Korean & Japanese Lions dominated the Forum. Opening program was participated by great global lion leaders led by the International President Wing-Kun Tam, past international president Sid Scruggs and his lady and other lion dignitaries. Different activities were held for the 4-days activity.

CCLC BINGO FUND RAISING ACTIVITY: A SUCCESS

            To augment the funds needed for better service to the needy, the Candon City Lions Club conducted fundraising project in the form of a bingo socials on November 19, 2011, 2 o’clock in the afternoon at the Narvacan Mall, Narvacan Ilocos Sur. 45 members of the club join hands in accommodating supporters of the said event. Prizes are 15,000 pesos-first prize, 2nd -10,000, 3rd-7,000 and 7 consolation prizes @ 1,000 pesos. It was indeed a very successful event as the people enjoyed the games as well as the lions thanked the participants and supporters for their continued support. Proceeds of the said project are for medical missions and gift-giving project on December.

CCLC CONDUCTED TREE PLANTING ACTIVITY

Lions Club International President’s important extension of service this year for lions will be the caring for our environment and his goal is for lions to plant millions of trees this year. Lions can make another difference not just for anybody’s life but also for the environment. On November 16, 2011 at 6 o’clock in the morning, Candon City Lions Club together led by the dynamic leaders of the club, Ruby Rose Pe, president, PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing & 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing with the Barangay Council of Bulanos, Narvacan, Ilocos and the army of 503rd Brigade planted 300 seedlings of narra and mahogany along the coastal road of Bulanos, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur. The Municipal government of Narvacan was truly grateful on this club initiative since this part of the place will soon be develop as an Eco-Tourism Park. 55 lion members participated the said activity with 10 barangay council and 30 members of the army. According to Wing-Kun Tam, Int’l. president, “What better way to be reminded of our gift to service than to watch the trees you have planted grow year-by-year? After all, seeing is believing!!”. Truly for CCLC will be very proud to say “I planted a Tree”. 

 

CCLC JOINED CAGAYAN NORTH LIONS CLUB IN RELIEF DISTRIBUTION

            Expanding its service beyond new heights, lions reached out to indigent communities at Cagayan-Isabela Border. A joint relief distribution was conducted by the two sister clubs, Cagayan North Lions Club and Candon City Lions clubs at Namabbalan Sur and Nababblan Norte Tuguegarao –Isabela borders on November 13, 2011. Around 200 prescreened poverty-stricken recipients were the beneficiaries. Lions ended successfully their activity and followed with a fellowship lunch in Isabela. What a service…ROAR!!!

 

BAGGAO MULTI-DISCIPLINARY MEDICAL MISSION

“Lions knows no distance, no boundaries” as they travel for the second time around in one of the innermost and distant town in Northern Philippines in Baggao, Cagayan for a Multi-Disciplinary Medical Mission on November 12, 2011. The Candon City Lions Club group of 25 led by the enthusiastic club president Ruby Rose Pe, PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing & 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing were joined by other lions clubs in Baggao, Cagayan North & Kalinga . This is the second time the group conducted intensive free medical services for it was the localities dire need of free medical assistance. The group traveled roughly 12 hours away in several jagged roads before reaching the place. The mission started at 8 o’clock in the morning. A total of 1,328 patients was seen and treated during the whole day mission. 15 doctors of different specialty discipline, two dentists, two optometrist and over 60 supporting lions actively participated in the activity. The professional services of participants & medicines given if quantified to its minimum cost would sum up to P680,000 to P850,000. All services were given entirely free of charge to the indigent people of Baggao and neighboring town. Mission movement carried out by the Candon City Lions club is partly supported by the World Outreach Foundation, Inc. of USA and their sister clubs the Kansas City World Outreach Lions Club of Missouri.

This nearly 100 years-old resident of Baggao Cagayan was trilled with her pair of new eyeglasses given by the Lions. Over 1300, poor recipients are beneficiaries of the joint Lions Clubs multidisciplinary medical mission held recently in Baggao Cagayan.

 

 

SEA CUCUMBER LIVELIHOOD PROJECT

As part of Lions District Secretary Dong-Hyun, Na of District 356 of South Korea visit to Candon City, his group with Lion Hung Ju, SIN of the Baguio City Lions Club, Past District Governor Elmer Datuin & 2nd VDG Edith Datuin together with the Candon City Lions Club officers, the group went to Barangay Ambucao-Apatot in Santiago,  Ilocos Sur to meet the fishermen in the area for a livelihood program “Project Sea Cucumber." The said project envisioned to energize the livelihood of the local fishermen especially for the market of the sea cucumber and it will be one of their livelihood projects. This project will be a joint venture of the sister district 356 of South Korea and Candon City Lions Club. The local folks were very much excited for this extra source of incomes. Lions proved once again for their continued support not only for service but for the livelihood of the community. 

CCLC MET WITH DISTRICT 356 SOUTH KOREA DISTRICT SECRETARY

Candon City lions club is very happy and honored as the District Secretary Dong –Hyun, Na of District 356 of South Korea Lions, the sister district of District 301-C visited the club on November 8, 2011. He was accompanied by Lion Hung Ju, SIN a Korean brother and  member of the Baguio City Lions Club, Past District Governor Elmer Datuin & 2nd VDG Edith Datuin. The group was welcomed by the CCLC lion couple leaders 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing and PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing and other club officers of the Candon City Lions Club. The said group treated the visitors with a hearty lunch of exotic and Ilocano dishes at Bistro Restaurant, Candon City to the delight of the brother Korean lions. As a tradition, the group exchanged gifts as a sign of their never-ending brotherhood and friendship.  

CCLC RELEASED ITS 1ST NEWSLETTER ISSUE

                                Candon City Lions Club does not only showed its growth in terms of membership as well as its endless services to the needy but have grown bigger to reach more the community and the whole district its existence as well as the activities taken by releasing its first issue of their newsletteron November 8, 2011. The said newsletter covered activities taken by the club from July to October for this lion year 2011-2012. The club agreed to publish at least 2 issues of newsletter for a lion year. Another big leap for the club and ROAR!!!

 

 

CCLC CONTINUES ITS DIABETES AWARENESS PROGRAM

                November is Lions Club International’s diabetes awareness month and the Candon City Lions Club strongly supports this endeavor by continuing its free diabetes screening and awareness program. The said activity was held at St. Martin De Porres  Hospital on November 6, 2011 at 7 o’clock in the morning. 35 members of the club participated as well as volunteer nurses from the said hospital. A total of 75 patients were seen and screened. 17 of them had high blood sugar levels and they were patiently lectured on the effects of having high blood sugars by the lion doctors Dr. Modesto Pacquing and Dr. Annie De Guzman. Free coffee and bread were also served for the patients and members as well as volunteers. The screening successfully ended at 9:15 in the morning.

CCLC ATTENDED 2ND CABINET & GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING

            The Candon City Lions Club group of 20 members travelled to the city of Pines Baguio on November 5, 2011 at 5 o’clock in the morning. The group led by the active leaders, PCC.PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing, 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing and Club President Ruby Rose Pe arrived at the venue for the 2nd Cabinet and General Assembly Meeting at Baguio City Host Clubhouse 9 o’clock in the morning. The said meeting was presided by the District Governor Dr. Westly Rosario. First part of the program is the opening program. Different participating clubs were acknowledged and gave their best roars. The guest of honor was PDG Valentin Tiu.. Awards were also given and Candon City Lions club was awarded for its membership excellence for the continuous membership growth for lion year 2010-2011.  A hearty lunch was served during the break. Second part of the program was the plenary session with PCC Victor Dy as the moderator. Minutes of the previous meeting was presented and was approved. Reports from the district governor, region chairs and zone chairs were made to update member’s status of the district and different club activities. Reports about lion’s quest, LCIF, GLT and GMT were also given. Issues were also settled. OSEAL Forum participation was also discussed. The program ended successfully at 4:10 in the afternoon.

CCLC HELD ITS NOVEMBER BOARD MEETING

            November 4, 2011, 6:42 in the evening @ St.Martin de Porres Hospital, Candon City, Ilocos Sur, the officers of the Candon City Lions Club held its board meeting to discuss matters regarding the club. 15 officers were present and the meeting was presided by the energetic club president Ruby Rose S. Pe. Matters discussed were the upcoming club activities like medical missions at Baggao, Cagayan, Bingo Fund Raising, Diabetes Screening and Tree Planting. Financial status of the club was also updated by 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing. Needed materials and funding for the medical mission was also discussed. Matters regarding the medical mission were discussed by PCC/PDG D. Modesto Pacquing. Pledges from the officers were also done for the tree planting activity. Status of the Bingo Fundraising was also reported by the president as well as the treasurer. Meeting was adjourned at 8:17. A fellowship snack followed for the birthday celebrants of November.

 

OCTOBER 2011

OCTOBER BOARD MEETING

            October 17, 2011, 6:10 in the evening at Max’s Restaurant, CCLC held its board meeting for October. 15 officers were present and it was presided by the active club president Ruby Rose Pe. Matters taken were the upcoming activities on Tree Planting, Bingo Fund Raising, Medical Missions and other matters such as gift-giving, diabetes screening and the newsletter of the club. Suggestions and issues were tackled for the progress of the said activities and for the betterment of the club. The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 in the evening. Fellowship dinner was also held in celebration of the birthday celebrants for October like the club president, secretary and the assistant treasurer.

CCLC VISITS SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT & NURSERY

            In preparation of the upcoming tree planting activity, some members of the CCLC went to Quinarayan, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur to meet Brgy. Captain Rey Canto on October 19, 2011 at 9 o’clock in the morning. The said visit was done for the club to request seedlings for the said tree planting activity. The very accommodating barangay captain not only showed the barangay nursery but also the solid waste management project they have in the barangay. The said project processes coal made up of trash and at the same time their income generating project. This is also their way of contributing in saving the environment. CCLC also supports such activities like this and it only showed that lions not just save humanity in need but also the environment we live in.

CCLC MEMBERS DONATES BLOOD

          Selfless services, give unconditional love to the needy and now lions give life for the sick and needy as they donated blood for a dengue victim. 3 lion members Lion Juvy Naungayan, Lion Julieto Dela Cruz and Lion Joseph De Guzman donated blood for a young high school student Christopher Valdez who is a victim of dengue hospitalized at Regional Hospital at San Fernando City, La Union. Hospitals run out of blood of his type that’s why lion Florita Dasalla asked the help of her fellow lions. The energetic club president Ruby Rose Pe readily disseminated the information and asked the help of club members. 3 members names mentioned above of the same type readily donated their blood on October 24, 2011 at the Regional Medical Center, San Fernado City, La Union. It was indeed a very heroic and noble deed for these lion members. Truly a manifestation of their endless and selfless service to the needy.

CCLC JOINS SAN FERNANDO CITY (LD) LIONS CLUB INDUCTION

            CCLC joined the San Fernando City (LU) Lions club in their 34th Induction Ceremonies on October 22, 2011, 6 o’clock in the evening at Rosebowl Restaurant, Bauang, La Union. 10 members of the CCLC joined the said event led by the club president Ruby Rose Pe, 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing and PCC/PDG DR. Boots Pacquing. The 1st VDG inducted the new set of officers of the said club. Fellowships and camaraderie for clubs had been once again happened for the district.

CCLC PREPARES FOR AGOO MEDICAL MISSION

 

 

October 28, 2011, 2 o’clock in the afternoon, 15 members of the CCLC prepared the relief goods and other things needed for the upcoming medical mission at Agoo, La Union the following morning. The group untiringly prepared 100 bags of relief good with used clothing for the typhoon victims on the said area. Other things were prepared needed for the said mission. This was done at the St. Martin De Porres Hospital, Candon City, Ilocos Sur.

 

 

 

 

CCLC CONDUCTS MEDICAL MISSION @ AGOO, LA UNION

The Candon City Lions Club together with the supportive Kansas City World Outreach Lions Club, World Outreach Foundation in the U.S. and the Agoo Lions Club conducted a Multi-Disciplinary Medical Mission at Agoo, La Union on October 29, 2011 at Agoo Civic Center. Thousands of people from Agoo and neighboring towns flock their way to the said venue to avail of the services given by this mission. Pediatric consultation, medical consultation, cataract screening, free medicines, minor surgeries were availed by these people and relief goods were given to typhoon victims. The very patient and hardworking lion doctors Dr. Modesto Pacquing, Dr. Annie de Guzman, Dr. Leo Francis Pacquing 

and Dr. Arlyn Glvan together with the doctors from Agoo catered to the needs of this people. 29 volunteer caregiver students from Agoo Technical and Voc’l. Educ. Training Institute , Sta. Barbara, Agoo, La Union joined also the group of lions. Reservist from the army came also to help on the said mission. A total of 1,041 people were catered to their different needs. 43 Lions were also present. “It was indeed a remarkable milestone to be emulated," said Lions Past District Governor Dr. Modesto Pacquing, who coordinated the said activity. The local government of Agoo presented a Resolution of Appreciation to the local sponsoring club presidents Erlindo Pocsidio & Ruby Rose Pe for their club’s support and help to their people. Lions 1st Vice Governor Evelyn Pacquing, 2nd VDG Atty Edith Datuin and Past district Governors Congressman Bernardo Vergara, Engr. Camilo Tabora and Atty. Elmer Datuin were present to witness the acknowledgment. It was indeed a very successful event and the Lions once again have shown their deep love and care for those in need in Agoo and neighboring towns during the said medical mission.

CCLC CONDUCTS ORIENTATION @ AGOO, LA UNION

            After the hard days’ work, untiringly, Dr. Modesto Pacquing leads in the orientation of caregiver students from Agoo Technical and Voc’l. Educ. Training Institute , Sta. Barbara, Agoo, La Union who volunteered on the medical mission to become a campus lions club. The said doctor oriented the said students on what is lions club and what is campus lions club, benefits and how they can be formed. 29 students from this institution participated on the said orientation. A positive response was taken from them. Agoo Lions Club will follow up on the said forming of the campus lions club.

FREE CLUB MINI-CATARACT SCREENING & SURGERY MISSIONS HELD

 

Lions always believe in making difference to anybody’s life and they always prove the worth of humanitarian service as they inspire giving hope to the needy in their loss of vision. The Claveria Metro Lions Club of Cagayan joins the Candon City Lion's Club for their continuing SightFirst project on Free Cataract Operation for the poor.  Last September 4, 2011, after the week-long typhoon, Claveria Metro Lions Club send indigent cataract patients for surgery at St. Martin de Porres Hospital, Candon City, Ilocos Sur. All Surgery was done under phacoemulsification procedures by Dr. Arlyn Galvan and Dr. Florante Licudine, both SightFirst volunteer doctors supporting Lions for the last 7 years. Such early bonding of the two clubs was followed by another free operation again on September 18, 2011. For September alone, 12 patients were operated. Such continuing major projects were supported by the CCLC sister club in the US, the Kansas City World Outreach Lions Club. Majority of the fund is subsidized by the World Outreach Foundation in the US and the Candon City Lions Club. A lot of volunteer doctors of different field of specialization in Candon City and in other places signified their intentions to help during free medical missions whenever needed.

 

SEPTEMBER CCLC BOARD MEETING HELD

            September 9, 2011, 6:12 in the evening at Max’s Restaurant, Candon City, Ilocos Sur, the clubs’ board meeting for September is held. The meeting was presided by the active club president Ruby Rose Pe. Preliminaries were the lion’s prayer and the roll call. It was followed by the treasurer’s report on the expenses incurred during the induction program. It was already included in the report the funds the club has and other financial obligation. Tackled next was the orientation of new members and formation of new clubs reported by PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing as the chairman on membership. He informed the body about the successful orientations done at Salcedo and Tagudin, Ilocos Sur. He also informed about the future orientations on strategic places at Cagayan and of forming new clubs. Business matters included the Sight for Kids Project, Diabetes Screening for the month and the fund raising project (bingo). It also included updates on other activities such as upcoming medical missions by Dr. Modesto Pacquing, Environmental Project which is tree planting by the chairman Lion Julieto Dela Cruz, bloodletting program by the chairman IPP Purisima Florendo and the Gift-giving project by Lion Nida Lee. Other matters included the the District 301-C induction and upcoming invitations of other clubs induction in the district. 14 officers of the club were present.The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 in the evening. It was followed by the birthday celebration of the assistant secretary and the past president of the club Lion Felina Calindas. It was indeed a very nice bonding and fellowship for the group.

CCLC JOINS 27TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF SMPH

          The Candon City Lions Club headed by the dynamic club president joins the St. Martin de Porres Hospital 27th Anniversary Celebration as they conducted free diabetic screening on September 15, 2011 at early 6:45 in the morning. It catered 110 patients. Few of them had high blood sugar levels. Aside from the free diabetes screening it had also lectures on diabetes, hypertension and dengue from the very helpful doctors of the hospital which is very timing since most of the patient doesn’t know the effect of very high blood sugar levels. 15 Lions were present. It was indeed a very noble activity and it’s always a great honor for the club to be helping also the institution the St. Martin de Porres Hospital who had been a partner of the Candon City Lions Club in their endeavors and quest to be of help and of true humanitarian service for the needy.

 

 

FREE CCLC DIABETES SCREENING CONTINUES

           

A total of 79 patients from barangay Baliw Laud and Baliw Daya, Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur   came to avail of the Free Diabetes Screening held at the Barangay Baliw Laud Hall on September 17, 2011 at 7 o’clock in the morning. 25 lions were present headed by PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing and club President Ruby Rose Pe. A brief lecture of the effects of having high blood sugar levels was also done. Aside from the screening, free coffee and bread or the locally known “pandesal” and native cake was served to the people as well to the lion members. The people of the barangay headed by the barangay captain were very thankful for bringing such activity in their barangay. It was indeed a great help for them as well as awakening awareness on the effect of such in their health. Truly once again, lions proved their worth of true service to the needy. The activity successfully ended at 9:30 in the morning.

 

 

 

 

 

CCLC JOINS DISTRICT 301-C INDUCTION PROGRAM

The Candon City Lions club joined the other clubs in the district for the District 301-C Induction Ceremonies on September 17, 2011 at De Luxe Restaurant, Grand Ballroom, Tapuac District, Dagupan City. The group of 19 members was headed by the president Ruby Rose e, PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing and 1st Vice District Governor Evelyn Pacquing. The program started at 7 o’clock by the entrance of dignitaries, call to order by the District Governor, Doxology, Pambansang Awit and the welcome address of the 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing. Introduction of Lion Dignitaries as well as the presentation of clubs was done by lion Mario Novales. A hearty dinner followed. Induction Ceremonies followed after the dinner. The Reaffirmation of Oath of the District Governor Dr. Westley Rosario was done with the guest of honor Past International Director Michael So. The District Governor inducted the 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing and 2nd VDG Editha Datuin. Induction of GLT and GMT Coordinators as well as cabinet members of the district followed. In the inaugural address of the district governor, he stressed the importance of lions’ true service to others as the true service to God.  The guest of honor PID Micael So asked also the help of the District for the forthcoming OSEAL Forum which will be held in the country. As host of this forum, he emphasized the participation of all lions in the country. Induction of the Pangasinan Coast Lions Club was also done after the District induction ceremonies.

CCLC JOINS DISTRICT GUILON-GUILON INDUCTION PROGRAM

CCCLC joined the Guilon-Guilon Lions club induction program on September 18, 2011at 7 in the evening. CCLC group of 8 lion members was led by the guest of honor and speaker for the said event PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing . 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing inducted the new members of the club. Warm welcome from Guilon-Guilon Lions Club members made the night a fellowship and bonding for lion members in the district.

CCLC CONDUCTS SIGHT FOR KIDS

            “Lions are light-bringers to the darkness”, according to Helen Keller as she praised the Scranton Lions Club of Pennsylvania on 1918, and today lions worldwide continue to give light to darkness. Candon City Lions Club gives their share also of the light as they conducted the preliminary survey visit at the Tablac Elementary School, Candon City for elementary pupils in their Sight for Kids program on September 16, 2011. A total of 3300 elementary pupils were screened for eye and vision defects. The group of 10 lions was led by the club’s chairman for SightforKids program Lion Felina Calindas.

September 20, 2011, the group went back to Tablac Elementary School for the final screening. Dr. Sheila Estrada Granada, an optometrist and volunteer doctor who always supports clubs’ missions, accompanied the group headed by the club’s chairman for SightforKids program Lion Felina Calindas. From the screened elementary pupils of the school, 5 of them were found out to be visually impaired. Dr. Granada conducted series of test among these pupils and gave recommendations for their needs and it will be forwarded to the district through the chairman for SightforKids. The screening successfully ended at 12 noon with 12 lion members present.

CCLC JOINS INDUCTION OF BAGUIO EVERLASTING LIONS CLUB

The group of 5 lion members headed by 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing and PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing went to Baguio City to join the Baguio Everlasting Lions Club induction ceremonies at the Baguio City Country Club on September 23, 2011 at 7 in the evening. Although the night was very cold, the whole-hearted welcome of the Baguio Everlasting Club made it warmer for the group. 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing inducted the new members of the club. The presence of other clubs in the district as well as the fellowship among the clubs gave more meaning to the event. 

CCLC VISITS PROSPECTIVE LION MEMBERS @ STA. PRAXEDES, CAGAYAN

          The Candon City Lions Club paved their way to the north as they went to Sta. Praxedes, Cagayan for a visitation of prospective lion members in the place on September 25, 2011. The group was joined by the Cagayan North Lions Club and the newly formed Claveria Metro Lions Club. The group was headed by the hardworking PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing. The group went to the house of some prospective members. 14 Lions members joined the group. A very positive response was extended from the visited prospective members. An orientation will be scheduled for the following days.

CCLC CONDUCTS ORIENTATION @ CL AVERIA, CAGAYAN

CCLC made its way again in reaching newly formed lions club as they conducted orientation for the newly chartered club, the Claveria Metro Lions Club in Cagayan on September 25, 2011, 2:00 P.M. at the Cabicungan Beach Resort, Claveria Cagayan. The hardworking and dynamic PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing did the orientation. He gave lectures on the essence of lionism is, and the important information about the Lions Club International. After the lecture, an open forum was made. Queries from the participants were entertained and answered by the good doctor. Cagayan North Lions Club joined also the said orientation. It ended successfully at 3:45 P.M.

CCLC JOINS INDUCTION OF CLAVERIA METRO LIONS CLUB

           After the hard work and patience of forming this new club, finally the Induction Ceremonies of the newly chartered Claveria Metro Lions Club was held on September 25, 2011, 7:35 in the evening at Cabicungan Beach Resort, Claveria, Cagayan. It was simple yet very lively event and full of energy. 1st VDg Evelyn Pacquing inducted the new members as well as the new set of officers. She also inspired the members with her message and welcomed them to the world of service and lionism. The group headed by PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing, Regions Chair Nestor Ave and Ronald Allam together with the 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing and PP Rose Gumarang presented their charter certificate from Lions Club International as well as their banner. The new members were really excited and they were full of enthusiasm.

FREE CLUB MINI-CATARACT MISSION HELD

Free Club Mini cataract mission at St Martin de Porres Hospital was held on August 2, 2011. There are 3 indigent patients transported from Vigan and Bantay , Ilocos Sur , accommodated by the ever compassionate lion couple PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing and 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing. They were operated by the ever supportive lion doctor Dr. Sebastian Moll. This continuing medical mission by CCLC and its sponsors Kansas City World Outreach Lions Club is indeed a manifestation of their true humanitarian service and boundless selfless service. 

ANOTHER FREE CLUB MINI-CATARACT MISSION HELD

Another Free Club Mini cataract mission was held at St Martin de Porres Hospital on August 14, 2011. Three (3) indigent patients were ferried from Tagudin, Ilocos Sur. Lion couple PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing and 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing accommodated the said patients. They were operated by Dr. Rolando Vermudez, who always supports clubs missions. AUGUST CCLC BOARD MEETING HELD

                      CCLC never stops believing in the continues quest for getting the best for the club as they continue to meet in their board meeting for August on the 3rd day, 6:30 in the evening at Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College Sta. Maria Campus, Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur to discuss matters concerning club activities and projects. Agenda tackled were the upcoming general membership assembly, induction program, fundraising “bingo for a cause” and upcoming medical missions. Participation on the District General Assembly was also discussed together with the upcoming OSEAL Forum on November, 2011. The international president’s project also on tree planting was discussed and made plans for the implementation and participation of the club. Meeting was adjourned at 8:55 in the evening.

CCLC ATTENDS 1ST DISTRICT 301-C GENERAL MEMBERSHIP ASSEMBLY

            New leadership, new breed of leaders, additional new members and additional new clubs joined the meeting as District 301-C held its 1st District General Assembly Meeting on August 7, 2010 at BFAR Regional Office, Dagupan City. The meeting started at 9:30 in the morning. The CCLC team of 15 is headed by the active club president Ruby Rose Pe and 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing. First part of the program was centered on the message of the new District Governor Dr. Westly Rosario which challenges the clubs and members to continue their selfless service and to continue building new clubs and recruiting new members. He was also proud to report that the district is already a normal district and to continue what the immediate past District Governor had done. He also announced the new members of District 301-C Cabinet Officers. Plenary Session followed after lunch. Meeting was adjourned at 3 o’clock in the afternoon.

CCLC VISITS SPONSORS FOR CLUB PROJECTS

                      Lions will always be grateful to its benefactors for even though they are not lions they will always be of true humanitarian service to the needy. A group of 10 CCLC members headed by PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing and 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing went to visit Mrs. Marjorie S. Chungtuyco from London, United Kingdom and a native of Darapidap, Candon City, Ilocos Sur who frequently donates materials for the club’s medical missions like supplies and 2 wheelchairs. It was indeed a thankful visit to a very kind hearted person and always a supportive fellow for the needy. The said visit was on August 6, 2011 at 6 in the evening. Indeed the Candon City Lions Club will always be proud of her. ROAR!!!

CCLC CONDUCTS ORIENTATION OF WOULD BE MEMBERS

August 8, 2011 at 4 in the afternoon, an orientation was held at St. Martin De Porres Hospitalof would be members of the new TESDA Caregiver Campus Lions Club. It was participated by 15 persons interested in joining the said club. Said orientation was led by PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing.

August 19, 2011 @ 4 P.M. It was overwhelming to see the 50 participants interested in listening the orientation done at Ilocos Sur Polytechnic College Tagudin Campus, Tagudin, Ilocos Sur. The 10 members of CCLC team was led by the dynamic PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing, the active president Ruby Rose Pe and 1st vice president Dr. Annie de Guzman and 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing.

August 20, 2011 @ 4 PM. A positive response was given to the CCLC Team led by the dynamic leaders PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing, 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing & the club president Ruby Rose Pe by the 20 participants at Salcedo, Ilocos Sur. It is their earnest desire to form their lions club. Roar!!!

CCLC JOINS SENIOR CITIZEN OF TALOGTOG, CANDON CITY

            A joint breakfast with the Candon City Lions Club members and the Senior Citizens of Talogtog was held on August 20, 2011, 6 in the morning at Talogtog City, Candon City. This endeavor was sponsored by the CCLC to show care and support to the senior citizens. There were 10 lion members participated and 20 senior citizens. Indeed it was a very supportive move for the CCLC to show that service is boundless and limitless. 

SPECIAL BOARD MEETING HELD

A Special Club Board ad hoc committee meeting was held on August 19, 2011, 7 in the evening at St. Martin de Porres Hospital Board room to discuss forthcoming club induction. The meeting was presided by the active president Ruby Rose Pe. Different committees were form for the said induction. The club secretary and treasurer were tasked to informed members through text brigade for them to be updated for the said activity. It was always been a great tasked for CCLC to be responsible and to make club events successful

FREE CCLC DIABETES SCREENING CONTINUES FOR AUGUST

            For CCLC, a big move was done in their endless passion for service as they reached the needy in barangays for their monthly Free Diabetes Screening. The said screening was held on August 20, 2011, 7 o’clock in the morning at Barangay Talugtog, Candon City, Ilocos Sur. There were 20 lion members headed by the dynamic leaders of the club president Ruby Rose Pe, 1st VDG Evelyn Pacquing and PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing who participated and catered to the needs of people who came to avail of the service. A total of 60 patients came and 20 of them had high blood sugar levels. The good doctors Dr. Boots Pacquing and Dr. Annie De Guzman gave them a brief talk on how to handle their high blood sugar levels and advise them to seek further medical health in the nearest hospital or medical clinic. A brochure or guide was also distributed as an additional information and help for the people who came. Free coffee, “pandesal”, native cakes and hard boiled eggs were served to the people as well as to the serving lions. It was really a successful endeavor.

SPECIAL MEETING OF MEMBERS HELD

           

After the successful free diabetes screening that morning of August 20, 2011, at 9:30, CCLC members find time to meet as they discussed about the forthcoming induction. It was presided by the dynamic club president Ruby Rose Pe.  Members will be informed later on what committees they will belong. Assessment and other obligations were also informed. Another agenda was the sudden demise of the sister of PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing. The members planned on how they are going to sympathized with the family. A group will go and visit since it is in Manila and voluntary contributions will be given. The meeting was adjourned at 10 in the morning.

CCLC EXTENDED SYMPATHY

CCLC extended club “saranay” visit as a sign of sympathy to the bereaved family for the passing away of the sister of PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing. The group of 8 went to Manila on August 22, 2011 to the said wake of Dr. Boots’ sister. The group extended the clubs’ sympathy to the family and gave also the aid given by members. Truly, lions will always be of help and a family to one and all.

8th JOINT INDUCTION CEREMONIES FOR CCLC AND JFK CAMPUS LIONS CLUB

Hail, hail the Lions are here! You can hear them roaring as they get together for their 8th Joint Induction Ceremonies of CCLC and JFK Campus Lions Club on August 27, 2011, 6 o’clock in the evening  at FTC Bldg., ISPSC Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur. Even the fury of Typhoon Mina did not stop them from joining and continuing the induction program. The hard rain outside the venue made the temperature cold but the presence and participation of the 55 lions made it warmer as they fellowship inside. What made more special aside from the fact that it has typhoon is the unique presentation of the program in Filipino in celebration of the “Buwan ng Wika”. Everybody especially the partakers of the program made their own effort in speaking Filipino. The guest speaker Dr. Edgar Florendo was also very impressed for the presence made by the lions even in the moment of calamity. He even wants to have a lions club be formed in his municipality. The president also reiterated the participation of members for every endeavor the club will be undertaking and in support to the programs of the international president. The program is highlighted also by a dance number “LA Walk” from the members, awards from the president and raffles to the delight of everybody. Indeed it was a successful event even in the wrath of typhoon.

1st VDG and CCLC 1st  VICE PRESIDENT JOINS DISTRICT GOVERNOR LEADERSHIP CAMP

            1ST VDG Evelyn Pacquing and CCLC 1st Vice President Dr. Annie De Guzman participated in the recently held District Governor Leadership Camp at Dagupan City, Pangasinan on August 30, 2011. This is one of the programs of the District Governor Dr. Westley Rosario to enhance leadership capabilities of lions as well as the responsibilities they have in their respective clubs. A very good move indeed for the district.

CCLC JULY BOARD MEETING HELD

 

                      July 17, 2011, Sunday @ 9:12 in the morning, CCLC held its board meeting for the start of Lion Year 2011-2012 at St. Martin de Porres Hospital, Candon City, Ilocos Sur. The meeting was presided by the incumbent Club President Ruby Rose Pe with 15 officers present. Matters discussed were the status of administrative and project fund reported by 1st Vice District Governor Evelyn Pacquing. She also congratulated the treasurer and assistant treasurer for a job well done for the past lion year. The energetic president of the club presented also her road map for this lion year 2011-2012. Suggestions were made and it was unanimously approved. Upcoming activities were also discussed. PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing, discussed also the upcoming medical missions the club will be undertaking. In closing, the president asked again each of the active officers to continue their support for the improvement of the club and continues service with passion.

 

FREE CCLC DIABETES SCREENING FOR JULY

 

            Lions always believe that their life is already a life with continues service to humanity and CCLC once again proved it that their continues quest for quality service is always given to the needy as they conducted the July Free Diabetes Screening at barangay Sulvec, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur. Starting the lion year right, 65 patients were accommodated on July 9, 2011 which started at 7 o’clock in the morning. 10 patients were with high blood sugar and they were advised to see a doctor. Aside from the free diabetes screening, free coffee, bread and a native delicacy (rice cake) was served for patients as well as some members of the barangay council and other people in the barangay who came and joined the club. The said screening ended at 9:30 in the morning.

 

 

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING DONE FOR JULY

 

CCLC monthly general membership assembly meeting for the start of lion year 2011-2012 was held on July 19, 2011,  6:25 in the evening at 2710 Restaurant, Candon City, Ilocos Sur.  55 lions participated the said meeting with the dynamic president Ruby Rose Pe presiding. Concluded and forthcoming activities were informed by the secretary. The treasurer reported on the funds of the club, collection of dues and other financial obligations. The president restated its plea to the members for their continuous upkeep on whatever endeavor the club will be undergoing.. Dr. Boots Pacquing informed also the upcoming medical missions and asks for the continuous support of each member for the betterment of the club. 1st Vice District Governor Elect Madam Evelyn Pacquing also asked the unending support the members are giving for the betterment of the club as well as the district. A fellowship dinner followed the meeting which was adjourned at 8:32 in the evening..

 

TWIN VISITATION @ KALINGA & CAGAYAN

 

                      Distance is not a hindrance if for the betterment of the clubs is the purpose of travel as the 6-man group of CCLC headed by PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing went all the way for a 10 hours drive to Kalinga and Cagayan for the club visitation. The said visitation was held on July 23, 2011 at Tuguegarao City, Cagayan and July 24, 2011 at Tabuk, Kalinga and Claveria, Cagayan. The purpose of the said visitation is to strengthen the bonds of sisterhood of clubs for Cagayan North Lions Club, Kalinga Lions Club, Cagayan North Campus Lions Club and the newly formed Baggao Lions Club and Claveria Lions Club and conducted an orientation-seminar-workshop of the Web Monthly Membership Reporting (WMMR) and other important information these new clubs have to learn. The lecture-discussion was led by PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing, together with the CCLC President Ruby Rose Pe and the secretary Julia Josephine Dasalla. It was indeed a very productive workshop since according to the participants, they have learned a lot and was enlightened especially on the true essence of lionism and the importance of reporting. It has not only strengthened the bond of sisterhood of clubs but the friendship and camaraderie each lion member had for each other. Indeed lionism always makes a difference in one’s life through friendship as well as the passion of service to the needy.

CONTINUOUS FREE DIABETES SCREENING PROGRAM HELD AT

ST. MARTIN DE PORRES HOSPITAL

            Shine a light on Health and Wellness. The continuous free diabetes screening program of the Candon City Lions Club (CCLC) was held on July 18, 2010 at St. Martin de Porres Hospital, Candon City, 7 o’clock in the morning. There were 40 patients accommodated. Lion members untiringly helped the patients who patiently waited for their turn to be screened. Some patients were given free medicines and prescription since some of them have high blood sugar level and recommended to come back for the next screening. A health talk was also given by Dr. Modesto Pacquing and Dr. Annie de Guzman for patients with high blood sugar. The program was successfully ended at 9:00 A.M.

 

NEW MEMBERS, OFFICERS & MEMBERS ORIENTATION-SEMINAR CONDUCTED

             The Candon City Lions Club (CCLC) conducted an orientation seminar for new members, officers and members of the CCLC on July 24, 2010, 9:00 A.M. at ISPSC Sta. Maria Campus, Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur.

            Twenty nine (29) members and officers, who continuously shining its light for others in lionism thru their endless service attended the said activity. The more than 1.4 million lights and beacon of hope lions worldwide and the 78 members for CCLC had been added as the club welcomed the 29 new members, the new beacons of hope and shine their light for others in selfless service.

            Resource speakers were IPP Purisima Florendo who discussed about Lions Club History; 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing, MJF on Retention Program; PDG/PCC Dr. Modesto Pacquing, MJF about Membership Program and Club President Ruby Rose Pe on Club Officers’ Orientation.

            Information from the president and secretary were done. Raffles courtesy of the president highlighted also the said activity. The program ended at 12:30 P.M.

            A lunch with “buddle fight” theme was done as part of the socialization for all the members to be acquainted. Members enjoyed the lunch and the camaraderie it brought to each one.

 

Free Cataract Operation: CCLC Satellite Mission

            A free cataract operation was done at St. Martin de Porres Hospital, Candon City, Ilocos Sur on July 26, 2010. This was an unannounced satellite mission of the Candon City Lions Club. Two indigent patients referred by the San Fernando City Health Center were ferried from San Fernando City by the health care center staff to St. Martin de Porres Hospital, Candon City, Ilocos Sur. They brought with them indigency certification. The patients were readily accepted by PDG/PCC Dr. Modesto Pacquing and VDG Evelyn Pacquing. Dr. Arlyn Galvan performed theoperation together with the help of Rowena, San Fernando Health Center staff. The said operation was successfully done.

CCLC CONTINUES ITS DIABETES SCREENING PROGRAM

            Shine a light on Health and Wellness. A total of 50 patients undergone diabetes screening held on August 7, 2010, 7 A.M. at Moonceline Garden, Sulvec, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur.

 20 Lions participated in the said screening led by the active president Lion Ruby Rose Pe. Among the 50 patients, 12 had high blood sugar levels and Lion Dr. Annie De Guzman gave them a brief health talk on what is the effect of having high blood sugar and what are the foods and things the patient should avoid. The said screening was successfully ended at 9:00 A.M.

A practice in folkdance was done after the screening in preparation for the upcoming induction of the club.

7th JOINT INDUCTION CEREMONIES: A SUCCESS

            The 7th joint induction ceremonies of the Candon City Lions Club, JFK Campus Lions Club and the Candon City Leo Club were held on August 28, 2010, 7:00 P.M. at the Stern Mall, Candon City, Ilocos Sur.

The said event was a success with the leadership of the new club president Ruby Rose Pe, the guidance and support given by the mentors, power couple Dr. Modesto “Boots” Pacquing and 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing and the cooperation of the members. Highlights of the said occasion were the induction of new CCLC members which was presented by Dr. Boots Pacquing and new JFK Campus Lions Club presented by Karren Joy Cabiladas and inducted by 1st VDG Westly Rosario.The new set of officers were presented by the secretary Julia Josephine Dasalla and inducted by the District Governor Dr. Ralph Asuncion. The club president stressed on her inaugural speech that all CCLC members should joined hands in her for the success of the club endeavors.

New Leo members were presented by Allan Rey Munda and they were inducted by 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing. Officers were presented by Jenina Ana Mayo and inducted by the Vice President of Multiple District 301-Leo Sarah Kathleen Pacquing.

The guest of honor and speaker was Dr. Primitivo Chua, a past district governor and the president of Global Peace Association, Philippines and was formally introduced by Lion Dr. Francisco Lopez. In his speech, he stressed on the importance of becoming a lion for he made mentioned of his being a true blooded lion and lionism became his way of life 39 years ago. That each lion must be inspired to work as good lions and do the motto “We Serve” to the best of one’s ability. And that lions must faithfully attend all lions meetings and do the functions expected from each. It was indeed a very inspiring message from the keynote speaker.

Entertainment from CCLC members and Miss May Agosto and the raffles added more color to the highlights of the occasion.

The presence of lion dignitaries and the visiting lions and leos made the event even more meaningful like the Kalinga Lions Club, Cagayan North Lions Club, Baguio Burnham Lions Club, Baguio City Host Lions Club, Baguio Chrysanthemum Lions Club, Baguio Magnolia Lions Club, Baguio Pines City Lions Club, La Union LD Lions Club, San Fernando City (LU) Lions Club, La Union Host Lions Club, Dagupan Guilon Guilon Lions and Leo Club , Candon Ilocandia Lions Club.

 

 CCLC MEMBERSHIP GROWS

             The Candon City Lions Club had increased its membership growth with the addition of 28 new members who were formally inducted on August 28, 2010 at Stern Mall, Candon City, Ilocos Sur.

            The growth is the product of the new president continuous program on code Xerox. It was indeed a good job for all the members and continues to recruit quality and committed would be members of the club. The beacons of hope for Candon City Lions Club will continue to grow and shine its light to the needy with the growing membership.

CCLC DIABETES SCREENING PROGRAM CONTINUES

             The CCLC continues its mission in shining light to health and wellness to its monthly diabetes screening held on September 4, 2010 at St. Martin De Porres Hospital, Candon City, Ilocos Sur. The screening started at 7 o’clock in the morning. Lion Ruby Rose Pe, the club president led the 25 lion members in assisting and screening the patient together with the supportive PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing and 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing. There were 48 patients who undergone diabetes screening for that day.

Among the 48 patients, 9 had high blood sugar levels. PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing and Lion Dr. Annie De Guzman gave them a brief health talk on what is the effect of having high blood sugar and what are the foods and things the patient should avoid. The said screening was successfully ended at 9:00 A.M.

CCLC Join Hands with Cagayan North and Kalinga Lions Club in Club Twinning

             “Club twinning is an effective way of working together in helping people, creating and fostering understanding and supporting each other”, these were the great words of PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto “Boots” Pacquing, the initiator of this activity when he talked about club twinning during the Cagayan North Lions Club induction ceremonies and the twinning pack signing ceremony. He also emphasized on clubs to have a chance on learning from one another and the opportunity of helping one another freely. Highlights of the said affair also is the exchange of banners and tokens led by the club presidents, exchange of tokens and the signing and exchange of MOA-Memorandum of Agreement. Acceptance speeches were also delivered by the presidents. Cagayan North Lions Club President Rosalina “Mama Rose” Gumarang said that it is their honor and privileged to be twinned with Candon and Kalinga. She also said that lions are very much alive in the extent of humanitarian service. Dr. Yvonne Guinid, the Kalinga Lions Club president, told the clubs to soar high and make things better for the clubs as well as in the service for humanity. Ruby Rose Pe, CCLC President emphasized on the bond of friendships and the hallmark of intimacy for the clubs. The acceptance they made for the club twinning maximize humanitarian efforts, exchange of culture and the sharing of ideas and opinions.

            Dignitaries who are present in the club twinning were DG Dr. Ralph Asuncion, 1st VDG Dr. Westly Rosario, 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing, PDG Mario Zamorano, PDG Jenny Hao & PDG Camilo Tabora. It was really a successful event.

Alaminos medical mission: a success

             “In communities at home or on some distant shore; meet needs, bringing sight, and making spirits soar; when miracles are needed to lift those who fall;  just like a mighty lighthouse weathering the storm;  a Lion stands ready to answer the call”, this inspiring lines from the song “Beacon of Hope” led the way for the Candon City Lions Club to initiate and spearhead the medical mission at Alaminos City, Pangasinan with the very able couple PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing and 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing and the club president Ruby Rose Pe  with the tremendous help of the Kansas City World Outreach Lions Club, USA and made it to success.

            The medical mission was held at Alaminos City, Pangasinan on October 15-17, 2010. This 3 day mission was a medical, surgical and cataract mission. On Oct. 15, EENT was held at the mobile van clinic while medical consultation, giving of free medicines and eyeglasses were held at the city auditorium simultaneously in the morning. Volunteer doctors & nurses from Pangasinan Medical Society, Alaminos Doctors Hospital and Western Pangasinan District Hospital came to help the Candon City Lions Club members and Hundred Lions Club in providing help and needs of the patients who came and in facilitating the said mission. Other volunteers who are nursing students came from Golden West Colleges in Pangasinan. Patients who were screened for surgery were operated at the Western District Hospital, Alaminos City, Pangasinan which was done by the volunteer doctors and OR nurses from Philippine College of Surgeons and Pangasinan Medical Society and continued until the evening. Oct. 16, the continuation for medical surgery at the Western Pangasinan District Hospital and cataract surgery was done at the mobile van clinic which was placed at the grounds of the said hospital. The District Governor of 301-C Dr. Ralph Asuncion did the cataract surgery. Other lions like the 1st VDG Dr. Westly Rosario, PDG Pete Soriano, PDG Mario Zamoranos and others came in the said mission to give support. In the evening, a symposium was made at the Island Tropic Hotel wherein the volunteer doctors, nurses and CCLC are billeted. Lecturers are the volunteer doctors from Philippine College of Surgeons. Participants are the volunteer doctors, nurses and from the CCLC and Hundred Islands Lions Club delegation. Dr. Modesto Pacquing in his message in the said symposium thanked those who participated especially the volunteer doctors. He also informed the activities of the lions for the knowledge of the participants who are non-lions. He made mention that the said mission is already the 53rd of the Candon City Lions Club since 2007 and there are already 1,006 cataract surgeries done. Volunteerism is very important factor in this mission which the lions club had been very thankful over the years. The municipal coordinator of Alaminos City, Ret. Col. Wilmer Palaban who represented the municipal mayor was there also to give a message. He thanked the Candon City Lions Club, the Kansas City World Outreach Lions Club for bringing the medical mission there together with the Hundred Lions Club and the volunteer doctors and nurses. A hearty dinner and fellowship followed after the symposium. The last day was a fellowship among the lions, volunteer doctors and nurses with the initiative of the Hundred Island Lions club toured the group at the hundred islands to unwind the hard work they had for the last two days. It was indeed a wonderful experience and fellowship among the group. The hard work the medical mission had resulted in the following: medical consultation- 441 total patients, pedia consultation – 383 patients, EENT consultation – 150 patients, distributed eyeglasses – 350 pieces, cataract screening – 24 patients; surgeries were thyroidectomy – 7 patients, cholecystectomy – 3 patients, cheiloplasty – 11 patients, palatoplasty – 1 patient, herniotomy – 1 patient, herniorrhaphy – 4 patients, cataract surgery – 7 patients, pterygium – 2 patients and excision – 8 patients. Total participants in the said mission were CCLC – 15 lions, volunteer doctors and nurse – 38 participants, Hundred Island Lions Club – 15 participants and non-lions – 20 participants. It always a very warming experience to give selfless service. A Lion is always there with a gift of hope, standing tall and strong like beacons of light giving hope.

 

CCLC Joins Santiago, Isabela Multidisciplinary Medical Mission

            “WE SERVE” adrenaline is rush in every lion spirit as they went to a medical mission despite the place had just been devastated by a typhoon and the very long hours of travel was not a hindrance in bringing the needs of the poor people especially during the time of calamities.

            The Candon City Lions Club members headed by the supportive couple PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing and 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing joined the Kansas City World Outreach Lions Club and the Kansas Medical Mission Team in the Multidisciplinary Medical Mission on October 23-28, 2010 at Southern Isabela General Hospital, Santiago City, Isabela.

            The said medical mission started in the morning of October 23 at the Southern Isabela District Hospital. The mobile clinic van was also used in the said mission for minor surgery and cataract surgery. Lion doctors, volunteer doctors, volunteer nurses, volunteer lion members, medical staff of the hospital and even the military were there to accommodate and facilitate the needs of the people. There are 34 lion members, 31 non-lions volunteer, 15 military personnel who participated in the said medical mission. It was indeed a long week medical mission which catered to the needs of the people who had just been recently devastated by a typhoon. A total of 444 patients were provided for the following: minor surgery (van) – 18 patients,; cataract surgery – 16 patients; cataract screened (not operated) – 60 patients, refracted with reading eyeglasses – 350 patients. It was indeed a very successful mission.

MINI-MISSION ON CATARACT OPERATION AT SMPH

                         In missions, distance was never a hindrance in service to the needy. Shining light on sight, the CCLC conducted a mini-mission on cataract operation at the St. Martin de Porres Hospital, Candon City, Ilocos Sur for patients who came all the way from Alaminos City, Pangasinan on November 8, 2010. The group who arrived at 8’clock in the morning was headed by the Hundred Islands Lions Club President Marcial Vidal and ferried 3 indigent patients with his very supportive wife. The group is warmly welcomed by the power couple Dr. Boots Pacquing and 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing. Lion Dr. Ian Moll performed the cataract operation free of charge with the help of the St. Martin De Porres Hospital Staff. There were only two patients operated since the other one was found out to have high blood sugar levels. It was indeed a successful activity for both clubs.

CCLC CONDUCTS AND JOINS DISTRICT PEACE POSTER CONTEST

           “Vision for peace” is this years’ peace poster contest theme. Elementary pupils at Sulvec Integrated School, Sulvec, Narvacan, I. Sur who have the talent in drawing was tapped by the Candon City Lions Club for this year’s peace poster contest held last November 17, 2010. There were four contestants ages 11-13 that joined the said contest. They were very artistic in coming up with their ideas of worldwide peace. Judges were the members of the club and come up with a unanimous decision. Gideon R. Domingo, a grade 5 pupil won the said contest. The said poster that won was the official entry of the club to the district peace poster contest. The said contest inspired the young pupils for their contribution in their idea of world peace. The club instilled in the minds of these young artists to excel more and be more vibrant in their ideas in the future.

CATARACT PATIENTS FROM LA UNION TREATED

             The beacons of hope continue to shine its light to vision. As a manifestation two indigent patients from San Fernando, La Union accompanied by their rural health nurse came to St. Martin de Porres Hospital for the free cataract operation being initiated by the Candon City Lions club on November 15, 2010. The group is warmly accommodated by PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing, 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing and the hospital staff. It’s just so glad that the ophthalmologist, Lion Dr. Arlene Galvan was so kind enough to operate on them entirely free of charge. The patients were very happy that they were operated and thanked the club, the hospital and Dr. Galvan. A successful endeavor indeed for the club.

NOVEMBER DIABETES AWARENESS CONDUCTED

                       In celebration of the diabetes awareness month program for November, a joint activity of the CCLC, Leo Club and JFK Healthcare Campus Lions Club held it free diabetes screening on November 27, 2010, 7 A.M. at St. Martin de Porres Hospital, Candon City, Ilocos Sur. A total of 60 patients came to avail the said activity. Among the said number of patients screened, 30 patients had high blood sugar levels and they were given lecture by the good lion doctors Dr. Annie De Guzman and Dr. Boots Paquing. They were informed about the bad effects of having high blood sugar levels and what foods should they avoid. The energetic president of the club Ruby Rose Pe led the group of 25 lion members in serving the said patients together with the active young members of the JFK Healthcare Campus Lions Club. The sun shone brightly that day because of the said activity and with the presence of the members who shone brightly as beacons for everybody.

CCLC HOSTS 2ND DISTRICT GENERAL ASSEMBLY

           It was a red letter day for District 301-C and lions wearing yellow and violet vests shined brightly that day. The 2nd District General Assembly hosted by the Candon City Lions Club, Candon Ilocandia Lions Club and Candon Metropolitan Lions Club was held on November 28, 2010, 9:30 P.M. at Bistro, Candon City, Ilocos Sur.

          Registration was made as early as 9 A.M. by the said hosts’ lions clubs. Fellowship among the members of the District 301-C was done while waiting for the program to start. It was a pleasant day for bright smiles, laughter and old pleasantries amongst them. The program started at 9:30 with Lion Dr. Joe Mainggang, the cabinet secretary as the emcee. The program started with the lion’s prayer led by IPP Purisima Florendo and the Pambansang Awit conducted by the CCLC President Ruby Rose Pe. 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing gave her opening remarks and welcomed all the participants in the City of Candon. Since the guest speaker wasn’t able to attend the said program, Dr. Boots Pacquing was task to talk about the “Roadmap to Success in Lionism. The good doctor discussed and stressed the importance of membership growth and the more lives it improves. He stressed on commitment, responsibility, hard work, direction, patience and cooperation among every lion member.

          For the district governors’ time, Dr. Ralph Asuncion reiterated again the roadmap to success of the district by meeting the normal number of clubs and members. He asked the help of every member and every club to increase the growth of membership and clubs for us to become a normal district. He also reported the good attendance in the just concluded OSEAL forum in Kaoshiung, Taiwan and thanked the clubs for the good number of attendance. He also informed the next activities the lions international will be conducting. After the reports of the district governor, awards of recognition were given to some lion members for their achievement last year. PDG Mario Zamoranos reported also activities of the LCIF. He stressed on the LCIF being the number 1 non-government organization of the world. He asked 25 members among the group who can be $20 contributing member of the LCIF and receive the LCIF pin. A numerous number of members accepted the invitation. A hearty lunched was served after the first part of the program

          During the plenary, the cabinet secretary reported the activities taken by each clubs, membership growth every month for the clubs and the number of submitted reports. There was no treasurer’s report because the treasurer was absent due to some unavoidable circumstances. The group was also informed about the approved projects for implementation next year. Progress of the district was also reported by the different region and zone chairmen. In closing the district governor repeated the appeal for the growth of membership. It was indeed a productive meeting. Raffles was also done for the participants; courtesy of the hosting clubs. The plenary was adjourned at 2:30.

 CCLC MEMBERSHIP GROWTH NO. 1 IN DISTRICT 301-C

          During the plenary session in the 2nd District General Assembly held at Bistro Candon City, Ilocos Sur, Cabinet Secretary Dr. Joe Mainggang reported the membership growth for each club during the 1st quarter and it showed the dramatic increase of 32 new members for the CCLC membership from July to October. It was indeed a very inspiring achievement for the club for their code Xerox program reflected on the said increase. Certainly, the club will double more its effort for the continuous recruitment of quality and committed new members. Shining beacons of CCLC will continue its selfless service through recruitment and service. Loudest roar!

CCLC FREE DIABETES SCREENING CONTINUES FOR HOLIDAY SEASON

                       Holiday seasons are here and too much parties, gatherings and foods can’t be avoided during this time of the year. To continue CCLC goal in reaching out people for their awareness on health especially this Christmas, their free diabetes screening program was held on December 4, 2010, 7 A.M. at St. Martin de Porres Hospital, Candon City, Ilocos Sur. Fifty Two (52) patients came to avail the said activity and 23 among them had high blood sugar levels. A brief but informative health talk about the effects of having high blood sugar levels and what should they do was given by the good lion doctors Dr. Annie De Guzman and Dr. Boots Paquing. The 32 active lions who participated were led by their enthusiastic president Ruby Rose. Indeed Christmas is really in the air for a good service the club has done for that day.

CCLC GARAGE SALE (UKAY-UKAY): PROJECT FOR A CAUSE

             Business is business for that day the active lions of Candon City Lions club as they gave their best smiles and sales talk for their garage sale. The said activity was done at the Narvacan Town Plaza, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur on December 12, 2010 at 6:00 A.M with 15 members present. The goods are from the members and it was consolidated and sold that day. Many people came to buy on the said sale and it was really fun even in the very warm weather, dust and dealing with a lot of people. The lions emphasized to the customers that what they pay is for a good cause and they can help someone else. The activity lasted until 1:00 in the afternoon. It was a very tiring activity but with all smiles as the said activity was a success to raise funds.

CCLC GIFT-GIVING FOR CHARITY PATIENTS

            The joy of sharing and giving even in your own little way this Christmas is truly rewarding and a big joy for the one you shared with especially those who are in need. And truly, the 35 members of the Candon City Lions Club proved once again the joy of giving is really in their hearts and lighted the spirit of every recipient as they shared gifts on December 19, 2010 at Sta. Lucia District Hospital with a total of 17 patients given and in the Central Ilocos Sur District Hospital, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur with 20 patients given. The gift-giving started in Sta. Lucia District Hopsital at 1:30 P.M. and in Narvacan at 3:30 P.M. Warm welcome from the hospital staff made the spirit more joyful and the shy smiles and deep appreciation from the patients made the day even more meaningful. No amount of words to say how thankful they are and just the look in their eyes truly its Christmas because of the joy and happiness from all of the members and patients.

PCC/PDG DR. BOOTS AND 2ND VDG EVELYN PACQUING HOSTED  “BUDDLE FIGHT” LUNCH

             Even though the weather is very chilly and windy that day, it made warmer as the CCLC members and Candon City Leo Club and JFK Healthcare  Campus Lions Club were joined once again to share the hearty “buddle fight” lunch hosted by the power couple Dr. and Mrs. Evelyn Pacquing on December 26, 2010 at Tamurong, Candon City, Ilocos Sur. The lunch served again to bring and renew the camaraderie each member had for each other. It is also the joy of sharing the couple had for the members of the club. There were 30 members present that day including their families with them.

CCLC FREE DIABETES SCREENING CONTINUES FOR 2011

                                  Lions never stops reaching out for people in need and for Candon City Lions Club service is always in their hearts as they had their continues free diabetes screening on January 22, 2011, 7 o’clock in the morning at Narvacan Mall, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur. 20 Lion members were present at the said venue headed by the active president Ruby Rose Pe and the ever supportive couple PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing and 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing. Total of 52 patients were accommodated. 10 of them had high blood sugar. Some of them even informed lions that it’s their first time to undergo such screening and very thankful for the lions to have such program. An informative health talk was given by PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing and Lion Dr. Marsha Michelle Cabuena. The screening ended at 9:30 in the morning.

CCLC HELD ITS GEN. ASSEMBLY MEETING FOR JANUARY

                   The first General Membership Assembly for 2011 is held last January 28, 2011 at 2710 Restaurant, Candon City, Ilocos Sur at 6 o’clock in the evening. 30 lion members were present and it was led by the club president Ruby Rose Pe. The president once again reiterated in her message the support and commitment each lion member should have in the club. Invited Resource Speaker was Atty. Amir Hassan Chan, President of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, Ilocos Sur Chapter who talked about Annulment. It was indeed a very informative topic. Other highlights of the said assembly were the treasurer’s report, secretary’s report on the highlights of the club achievements for 2010. A message from PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing was also given. He also stressed on the commitment of each member and the obligations they have especially on dues. He also ask every lion to recruit again would be members in the club as it continues with its program to grow CCLC membership. Other announcements were also given. A hearty fellowship dinner followed the assembly. It was adjourned at 9:30 in the evening.

CCLC FREE DIABETES SCREENING CONTINUES FOR THE LOVE MONTH

            Love is in the air as they say when the month of February comes and truly the lion heart continues to share its love and service by conducting once again the free diabetes screening by the members of the CCLC on February 5, 2011, 7 o’clock in the morning at St. Martin De Porres Hospital, Candon City, Ilocos Sur. The group of 30 lions led by the active president Ruby Rose Pe accommodated 52 patients from Candon City and nearby town. 15 patients had high blood sugar levels and the energetic lion doctors Dr. Annie de Guzman and Dr. Boots Pacquing gave them a brief but informative health talk on how they will handle their high blood sugar levels. The screening successfully ended at 9 o’clock in the morning.

 

CCLC JOINS IN MEETING THE INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT

            Meeting the Lions International President indeed was a privileged and some members of the CCLC were fortunate to have met with the international president. The group of 6 headed by the 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing, PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing and the club president Ruby Rose Pe went to Fiesta Pavilion, Manila Hotel on February 12, 2011 at 6 o’clock in the evening for the International President Banquet and met LCI President Sid L. Scruggs. The group joined the other clubs and districts of Multiple District 301-Philippines in welcoming the LCI president in the Philippines. It was a successful and meaningful affair

CCLC ATTENDS 3RD CABINET AND GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING

            Clubs for District 301-C trooped their way up to Baguio City not for the upcoming Panagbenga Festival but for the 3rd Cabinet and General Assembly Meeting. It was held at the beautiful residence of Region 3 Chairperson Andrea Lagasca. The 12 CCLC members headed by the president Ruby Rose Pe, 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing and PCC/PDG Modesto Pacquing joined the said event. Registration was done at 8:00-9:30 A.M. Program followed after the registration. Region Chair Andrea Lagasca welcomed the participants followed by presentation of Lion Dignitaries and club delegation by the cabinet Secretary Jose Mainggang. For the District Governor’s time, Dr. Ralph Asuncion reported the updates on the visit of Korean Lions to the Philippines last an. 6-9, 2011 and the visit of the LCI President to the Philippines. The District Governor was also very happy to inform about the clubs revived and the addition of new clubs which will make the district to a normal district. He urged again each member to work hard for the good of the district. The 1st VDG Dr. Westly Rosario and 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing gave also their respective messages. Guest of Honor and Speaker for the said event was PID Enrique Lim, who is still very active in lionism. He said that District 301-C is very close to his heart and that he was a part in the formation of District 301-C. After the program was the plenary session. Report of activities from the different Region Chair was done. Reports of various special projects like Lions Quest, Emergency Grant, LCIF and Environment Public Relations were discussed. An open forum followed the said reports. The District Governor informed also the upcoming activities for the Multiple District 301 Philippines Lions State Convention which will be held in Davao City. Awards were also given. The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 n the afternoon.

 

CCLC CONDUCTS MEDICAL MISSION @ BURGOS, ILOCOS SUR

                        Lions always live by their motto “We Serve” and true to their hearts desire of service and commitment, the members of the CCLC proved once again this endeavor by a medical mission conducted at the town plaza of Burgos, Ilocos Sur on February 24, 2011 at 8 o’clock in the morning till 12 noon. 45 CCLC members led by the active and energetic leaders of the club Ruby Rose Pe, the president, 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing and PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing helped patients lined-up, assist volunteer doctors and nurses and distributed home remedy packs to indigent recipients. A total of 100 patients came for medical consultation, 53 pedia consultation and 150 patients distributed with free medicines. A total of 100 indigent recipients received the home remedy pack. This endeavor was also made possible with the big help of Kansas City World Outreach Lions Club, USA. Indeed it was a successful and meaningful event.

 

“GO-GO BINGO 2011”: A CCLC FUND RAISING PROJECT

            Lions never stops thinking for the continued commitment in their hearts and to continuously give service to the needy. And for the club to continue its projects, a fund raising activity of the CCLC “Go-Go Bingo” was held at Narvacan Mall, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur on February 26, 2011, 2 PM. Proceeds of the said fund raising will be used to finance medical missions and other projects the club will be initiating. Lion members work hard in selling bingo cards for the said event to raise more funds. The Narvacan Mall Administrator helped also in selling bingo cards and it was a great help. This endeavor was initiated with hard labor by the active club president Ruby Rose Pe. 50 Lion members participated in the said event. It was a very successful event as many people joined the said fund raising activity. Truly commitment for lions never stops for the good of the needy.

 

FAMILY MEMBERSHIP BANNER PATCH AWARDED TO CCLC

            For embracing the family membership and being initiative, the Candon City Lions Club was awarded a Family Membership Banner patch for Family Membership Pioneer Club and for encouraging members in inviting family members in the club during the 3rd Cabinet and District General Assembly at Baguio City. And this effort had helped the position of Lions Club International as a dynamic, forward thinking organization focused on answering the needs of young families as well as serving communities worldwide. It was indeed a great honor for the club to have such award. The club’s achievement had helped demonstrate to the world that Lions remains the most dynamic and relevant organization in town. ROAR!!!

CCLC CONDUCTS WHEELCHAIR DONATION

CCLC had proved once again of their being Beacons of Hope for those they serve and gave light of hopefulness again to the needy in giving wheelchairs. The CCLC conducted its wheelchair donation on March 26, 2011 at Candon City Kiosk, Candon City, Ilocos Sur at 9 in the morning and participated by 30 lion members. Four (4) of the wheelchair were donated by club members Dr. & Mrs. Modesto Pacquing, Ruby Rose Pe & Rosario Salazar, Sofronia Pico, Louremar Jann Cano & Marvin Aristeo Pico, Purisima Florendo, Rodaiza Florendo & Jennifer Florendo, one (1) from Mr. & Mrs. Alex del Rosario, civic-spirited couple from London and the other one (1) is from the club, a total of six (6) wheelchairs. Recipients were indigents and were screened by the board members. Four wheelchairs were given that day for the 4 recipients present namely; Crisanto Martinez, Marisa Anga-Angan, Jennel Calibuso, Leonida Raguindin and Alonzo Gagarin. The other two wheelchairs will be delivered in the recipients’ homes since they can’t travel. The shy smiles and happy faces of the recipients showed how grateful they are for the wheelchair given to them. It is really a great help for them and their families. This endeavor have been led once again by their active leaders, Ruby Rose Pe, Club President and Evelyn Pacquing, 2nd VDG of District 301-C. Loudest roar again for a great deed of service.

CCLC FREE DIABETES SCREENING FOR APRIL

            The summer heat is on and so the burning heat of love and service of the CCLC on April 5, 2011, 7 o’clock in the morning at St. Martin De Porres Hospital, Candon City, Ilocos Sur by conducting once again the free diabetes screening by the members. The group of 35 lions led by the dynamic president Ruby Rose Pe accommodated 56 patients from Candon City and nearby towns. There were 25 patients with high blood sugar levels and the enthusiastic lion doctors Dr. Annie de Guzman and Dr. Boots Pacquing talk to them on how they will handle their high blood sugar levels precautionary measures. The screening successfully ended at 9 o’clock in the morning.

 

CCLC ATTENDS 4TH CABINET AND GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING

            The 12 CCLC members headed by the president Ruby Rose Pe, 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing and PCC/PDG Modesto Pacquing paved their way to Dagupan City as they attended the 4th Cabinet and General Assembly Meeting  on April 10, 2011at BFAR. Registration was done at 8:00-9:30 A.M. Program followed after the registration. Region Chair and President of Dagupan City Host Lions Club Milagros Springate welcomed the participants followed by presentation of Lion Dignitaries and club delegation. For the District Governor’s time, Dr. Ralph Asuncion reported updates on the district activities and upcoming events. The District Governor was also very happy to inform about the clubs revived and the addition of new clubs which will make the district to a normal district. He urged the incoming District Governor to continue on the programs he had initiated especially on forming new clubs. After the program, a hearty lunch was served courtesy of the 1st VDG Westly Rosario. Plenary Session followed. Different reports were given. An open forum followed the said reports. The District Governor informed also the upcoming activities for the Multiple District 301 Philippines Lions State Convention which will be held in Davao City. Awards were also given. CCLC was very proud to have received the October Growth Membership Award for having increased its members. Part III were the presentation of the candidates for District 301-C in the upcoming National Lions State Convention. In closing, 1st VDG Dr. Westly Rosario, the upcoming District Governor quoted “More in work, less in words” to challenge every lion to work harder. The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 in the afternoon.

MAY FREE CCLC DIABETES SCREENING

            CCLC continues to be “Beacons of Hope” and shines light on health and wellness as they held their monthly free diabetes screening for May. It was held on May 14, 7 o’clock in the morning at St. Martin De Porres Hospital, Candon City, Ilocos Sur. The group of 33 lions led by the vibrant president Ruby Rose Pe accommodated 46 patients from Candon City and nearby towns. The very active lion doctors Dr. Annie de Guzman and Dr. Boots Pacquing talk to 15 patients with high blood sugar levels on how they will handle their high blood sugar levels and preventive measures they have to do. The screening successfully ended at 9 o’clock in the morning.

 

CCLC COASTAL CLEAN-UP DRIVE HELD

            The move to save mother earth is everyone’s concern nowadays and CCLC is a part of it as they held Coastal Clean-Up drive on May 7, 2011 at 6:30 in the morning along the coastal areas of Sulvec, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur. The drive participated by 40 active members was led by the ever dynamic leaders of the club, President Ruby Rose Pe, 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing and PCC/PDG Dr. Boots Pacquing. The group split into two was able to collect assorted plastics, broken bottles, used diapers, plastic mineral water containers and other kinds of trash. A total of 10 sacks of trash was collected and was put in dug up holes for proper disposal. The activity successfully ended at 9:00 in the morning. 

 

MAY GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING DONE WITH “BUDDLE FIGHT LUNCH”

After the coastal clean-up drive for saving Mother Earth, CCLC find time to renew the camaraderie and friendship with its fellow members by holding the General Membership Meeting at the ISPSC Narvacan Campus Multi-Purpose Hall at 10:00 A.M. just after the break from the coastal clean-up. The indefatigable president of the club Ruby Rose Pe presided the meeting with 40 members present. She thanked the members for their support of the just concluded activity. She asks the members for their nonstop support on whatever endeavor the club will be undertaking and their energetic involvement. She also informed the members about the forthcoming activities of the club like the 62nd Multiple District 301 Philippines Lions National State Convention on May 26-29, 2011 at Davao City. Secretary’s information was also done. The treasurer also reported the status of dues and other obligations of members. 2ndVDG Evelyn Pacquing gave also her message, thanked the members for their participation in the coastal clean-up and asks the active involvement of each member for whatever activity the club will be undertaking. She also informed the activities for the Lions State Convention at Davao City on May 26-29, 2011. Dr. Modesto Pacquing also asked members to continue recruiting would be quality members. He also informed the upcoming medical missions the club will be undertaking. Meeting was adjourned at 12:00 P.M. A hearty “buddle fight” lunch followed the meeting for the beacons of hope as they continue to bond with each other.

 

CCLC ATTENDS 62ND MULTIPLE DISTRICT 301 PHILIPPHINES LIONS STATE CONVENTION

            Distance and the approaching “Typhoon Chedeng” did not hinder the 28 member delegates of Candon City Lions Club as they trooped their way to Davao City for the 62nd Multiple District 301 Philippines Lions State Convention held at Davao Central High School, Davao City, May 26-29, 2011 with the theme “A Beacon of Hope”. Members of the group came as early as May 25, 2011. The group headed by the power couple 2nd VDG Evelyn Pacquing and PCC/PDG Dr. Modesto Pacquing together with the very active club president Ruby Rose Pe led the group who stayed at Green Windows Dormitel located at the heart of Davao City. The club registered and attended the opening ceremonies at 3rd Floor, Davao Central High School Annex Building; Friday at 9:00 A.M. Guest of honor was the Mayor of Davao City Hon. Sara Duterte who welcomed the 1,069 registered delegates as of that date and the U.S. Consul General Michael Schimmel. The Council Chairman Rolando Cachuela gave also his message. Opening plenary followed after the break at 10:00 A.M. and there were no problems as to the matters discussed. Schooling/seminars were attended by the club president, secretary, treasurer and the 1st vice president at 1:00 P.M. Parade followed at 4:00 P.M. with all the delegates. It was fun-filled parade together with the aspiring candidates in each district. A fellowship night of District 301-C was held at the Garden Oases Ballroom, a bonding for the members and clubs of District 301-C. Dances and songs filled the hall. May 28, 2011, closing ceremonies was done at 9:00 A.M. District Elections were held at 2:00 P.M. Madam Evelyn Pacquing of the Candon City Lions club and the incumbent 2nd VDG aspired for the position of 1st VDG and she was unchallenged. At the Grand Regal Hotel, Governor’s Ball and Proclamation Night were held. For District 301-C, the proclaimed winners are as follows: District Governor, Dr. Westly Rosario, 1st VDG Madam Evelyn Pacquing and 2nd VDG Atty. Editha Datuin. May 29, 2011, there was a seminar for the new sets of district governors, 1st and 2nd vice district governors. It was also the time for some to go back home sweet home. Though there were some problems met, the convention was indeed a success. Mabuhay ang lionismo. ROAR!!!

 

CCLC Donates for Earthquake and Tsunami Victims in Japan

                   Lionism knows no boundaries when it comes to lending a helping hand and CCLC proved its being a beacon of hope as it shines its light to the earthquake and tsunami victims of Japan by giving 3,000 pesos as their symbol of help. Money is not worth it compared to the heart and thought of help in CCLC’s heart. It may be a small amount but it will be of great help to the needy and it’s always good to have the lion heart of kindness.
