Carlisle Lions Club 89 Years of Community Service (Chartered November 22, 1933)

For many years the Carlisle Lions Club has proudly served our community.  While we are best known for providing sight related services, we also support many other community oriented activities.  For years we have sponsored a student achievement award presented to a Carlisle High School science student.  We provide glasses to those in need and multiple other programs and agencies throughout the community.

The Club is only one of many.  There are more than 47,000 clubs worldwide in more than 200 countries with over 1.4 million members.  In our immediate area zone 2a consist of the Mt. Holly Springs, Boiling Springs, Plainfield, Shippensburg, Newville, and Jacksonville clubs with over 160 members.  When a major project occurs, these clubs band together to accomplish community needs.

Projects in the Club are presented by members and approved by a Board of Directors.  All expenditures must be approved by the Board.  The Board is comprised of all elected officers and four elected directors.  All active members in good standings are eligible to become Board members.

Fund Raising projects/events are selected by the club members.  Projects/events are lead by a committee chair.  Once a project/event is approved by the membership the club board approves the funding.

The Carlisle Lions also participate in a wider range of activities.  These would include eye research, diabetes research, hearing research, Beacon Lodge Camp for the blind, visually impaired and otherwise handicapped children and adults along with many more.

We also support Lions Internaional through the Lions Club International Foudnation (LCIF).  Lions International has five global causes of Vision, Diabetes, Hunger, Environment, and Childhood Cancer, with LCIF focusing on Youth, Disaster Relief and Humanitarian along with five global causes for a total of eight focus areas for LCIF.  LCIF is working with the World Health Organization (WHO) toward eradicating river blindness and measles.

Every dollar raised is used to further our service to the community.  All Lions have one Motto:

"We Serve"

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
