Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members, approximately 46,000 clubs, in more than 200 countries around the world. The first Lions Club in the United Kingdom was formed in 1949.

The Carmarthen Lions Club started in 1974. We are a small group of local people who raise funds and then use them to support local, national, and international causes. We are strictly not-for-profit, our time and efforts are unpaid and voluntary. The modest running cost of the club is funded by the members.

We meet twice a month. At business meetings we review our current projects and activities, and discuss new ones. Dinner meetings are more social, we still discuss Lions matters along with general chat, but informally around a meal table. We are a mixed group from a variety of different backgrounds, and we are always looking for like-minded people to join our club and support our local community.

PRESIDENT’S STATEMENT

Carmarthen Lions are part of the largest volunteer service organisation in the world. We contribute to providing humanitarian aid internationally, but we also put major importance on supporting as many local causes and organisations as possible. We are here to help.

We raise funds in many different ways such as race nights, collections, donations, events such as charity dinners and by any other appropriate means.

We support many local projects and good causes, particularly those that concern young people, the elderly, and the physically and mentally impaired, but we consider everything. Take a look around this website to see some of our recent work.

My aim this year is to continue and to expand our activities, and also to increase our membership. Carmarthen is a small town, and we are a small group, but the more of us there are then the more we can do. As with other service organisations, membership is a constant challenge, so we are always on the lookout for new members who can spare a few hours a month to help those less fortunate than themselves. Lions is about ordinary people working together to achieve the extra-ordinary.

If you are interested in finding out more about Lions and what we do, and possibly joining, please get in touch. I’ll be very happy to have an informal chat and answer any questions without any commitment whatsoever.

Thanks and Diolch.

Regards

Roger Lewis
