Family Diabetes Camp

Camp date:  April 21,22,23 2023

The family Diabetes camp has been held annually since 1989.

It is a camp for kids with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.ages 6 - 18 accompanied by a family member.

Purpose:  To bring first time diabetic children together to learn how to cope with diabetes and show them that they are not the only ones with this disease and to show their parents how to adapt with a child with diabetes.

Medical personnel from Chesapeake Regional Hospital, Children's Hospital of the Kings daughter  (CHKD), and Portsmouth Naval Hospital and other local medical staff assist the District 24D lions with the camp.  Camp Counslers are provided by Old Dominion University Parks and Recreation Students.

Camp is held at "Triple R Ranch" located at 3531 Bunch Walnuts Road in southern Chesapeake, Virginia.

Camp costs:  $ 25.00 per camper.  Each camper must be an accompanied with a family member.    See  web-site below for further details.

During the day campers participate in activities such as canoeing, fishing, horsebacking ridding, archery, wall climbing high and low ropes and more. plus there are sessions on diabetes related subjects.  At night there are games/skits and entertainment.
