Welcome to the Chester Lioness Lions website!
November is upon us – a month to give thanks, spread kindness and, most importantly, lend a helping hand to those in need. The Chester Lioness Lions Club has a full slate of activities lined up in this regard, working with our partner service organizations, including:
- Staffing the thrift shop at Matheny Medical and Educational Center in Peapack on the second and last Wednesday of the month, the proceeds of which go towards their hospital for children and adults with medically complex developmental disabilities
- Working for several days at Jersey Battered Women’s Service (JBWS), completing their Annual Appeal mailings and driving to pick up donations
- Performing our monthly baking at Homeless Solutions Inc. (HSI) for the benefit of their shelter residents
- Starting work on decorating two Christmas Trees,, which we perform every year in support of the Festival of Trees fundraiser for Chester’s Senior Resource Center (SRC).
December is yet another busy month with the Lioness members scheduled for over 20 holiday-related service activities to benefit our local Morris County community. More on those in the December newsletter.
Also, please go to our Club Projects tab to learn of what was done in October and preceding months of our very busy calendar.
UPCOMING ATTRACTIONS:
The Senior Resource Center (SRC) in Chester provides valuable services to seniors in the community such as exercise and music classes, weekly walking tours and other activities at a very low cost. Their annual fundraiser is the Festival of Trees, to be held this year from December 2 – 9. The Chester Lioness Lions Club partners with SRC in decorating trees for sale and staffing the front desk during the festival.
SRC Festival of Trees 2023
A community wide celebration featuring decorated holiday trees in a rustic winter wonderland setting held annually at the Barn at Highlands Ridge Park in Chester. The trees are individually decorated by families, businesses and civic organizations and are enjoyed by hundreds of people every year.
All trees are for sale. Consider purchasing a tree or donating toward the purchase of a tree to be donated to brighten the Christmas of a local family. There will be items in the Gift Shop and “Cash & Carry” trees available for immediate purchase. Come and help us decorate small trees for Cash & Carry sale!
Put December 2-9 into your calendar and make time to visit this enjoyable event. Please go to the SRC website at www.srcnj.org for more information.
Here’s a quick look at an event that you won’t want to miss – our early Spring fundraiser of the exciting play “Dead Man’s Cell Phone” by Sarah Ruhl at the Black River Playhouse in Chester on Friday, February 16, 2024. This is a preview performance exclusively for Chester Lioness Lions Club and our guest donors.
Life is calling... you gonna answer that?
While sitting quietly at a café, A woman becomes increasingly frustrated at the endlessly ringing of a nearby cell phone whose owner refuses to answer it. Why? Because he's dead. In her panic, she begins answering the persistent phone calls, getting herself wrapped deeper and deeper into the relationships between this man and his Mother, his Wife, and others from his life, including her own budding relationships with these people. What ensues is a play that explores modern technology's ability to both unite and isolate us in this digital age...even after death.
Put February 16 into your calendar and email us at chesternjlionessclub@gmail.com so that we can hold tickets for you.

One of our main goals this year is to increase membership so that there are more “hands” doing this valuable work to help our neighbors. The club is open to all adults who are interested in providing hands-on service to local communities in need. Join us for one of our service activities and get to know our members and our work. We look forward to hearing from you.
