Women's Resource Fair March 2024

Lions Deane Skinner and Laura Mettler man the Vision Screening Booth at the Resource Fair. Vision screening was provided to children who attended the Fair.

Cheyenne Greenway Cleanup

Our club cleans a portion of the Cheyenne Greenway twice per year. This is in support of the Environment Service Area of Lions Clubs International. Lions Paul Hunter, Jim Landen, Bruce and Gail Heimbuck are pictured here (Lion Dave Orr took the picture). The Cheyenne Greenway has over 30 miles of walkways that stretch all around the city.

Ride for Sight - 100 mile kilometer supported bicycle ride

Begun in 1993, the annual Ride for Sight event is the premier annual event of our club. The RFS has grown from under 50 riders to over 200. It not only provides a safe and healthy activity, but raises over $10,000 each year for Lions projects, both local and international.

It includes a “Family Ride” on the Cheyenne Greenway for families with younger children.

For 2021, because of some road construction, the Ride was shortened to 100 kilometers. It began at the Wyo Dept. of Transportation parking lot at Central and Bishop Blvd. The route went north on Bishop and into the Western Hills neighborhood on Evers, east on Shadow Mountain and north again on Bishop (avoiding the Vandehei "round-about." It continued north to Horse Creek Road, then west and north across the Southeast Wyoming prairie for approximately 35 more miles.  There were rest stops at Bishop and Horse Creek and approximately every 10 miles out to 50 kilometers.  Riders then re-trace the route to finish the full 100 km. course.  Participants could turn around at any point to tailor the ride to their personal goals.

Early Childhood Vision Screening

Sunrise Lions participate in the screenings at local day care centers and pre-schools.  When the screening is completed, a report is printed to advise parents if a visit to a vision care professional is indicated.  Students at these facilities also receive a children’s book to take home in order to encourage reading with parents. (Note: this project has been on hiatus during the pandemic to honor pre-schools prohibitions on visitors.)

Miniature Train

Our Miniature Train has been giving rides to three generations of children since 1982. The train makes annual appearances in all four Cheyenne Frontier Days Parades, Super Day in Lions Park and Sherman Hill Model Railroad Club's Depot Days.
