CONCESSION STAND FOR NORTHDALE MIDDLE SCHOOL

VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

Saturday, March 7th was the thirteenth year that Northdale Middle School hosted Anoka Hennepin ISD #11 Youth Volleyball Tournament.  The tournament has allowed the district elementary school students grades 3-5 an opportunity to play in a tournament at the completion of their Community Education volleyball class.  This years tournament saw 199 students play on 19 different teams representing 13 schools located throughout district #11.  Over 700 spectators attended the event to support the players efforts.  This years numbers are a good representation of what type participation the tournament sees on a yearly basis.

The North Star Lions Club has provided workers and product for a concession at our recent tournaments.  The club provides nourishment for the players and their fans at the event, but more importantly the concession sales provide financial support back to the District 11 Community Education programs in the Coon Rapids and Blaine communities.  The clubs continued financial support has been used to keep programming costs down allowing lower registration fees for after school programming, and more importantly, for those who cannot afford class fees, are able to participate. 2012-13 programs requiring assistance specifically included enrichment classes in foreign language, math, science, and reading.  Over 2,000 students from the schools in the Coon Rapids and Blaine communities participated in these enrichment classes last year.

Programs receiving donation scholarship fund distribution for the past school year also included: Minneapolis Children’s Theater field trip, a Minnesota Zoo overnight field trip, purchasing performance supplies, guitar and percussion lessons, canvas painting instruction, chalk pastels art class, and the “Family Night Out” field trip.

Thank you for your support in the past and continued assistance, as your contributions are vital to the program.
