Installation of new Board Of Directors for the year 2014-15 at the hands of District Governor Lion MJF Pradeep Kulkarni's during his first official visit. Also a new member was inducted by Vice District Governor Lion MJF Agnelo Alcasoas.


EVENT of the Month ( February, 2015): -

Felicitation of 3 Past District Governors on Friday the 13th during the PDG's felicitation month of February,2015.

OUR Other Projects this Year (2014-15): Two-day Free Eye Check-up Camp: On the occasion of Lions Worldwide Week of Service, Lions Club of Dabolim in association with Matoshree Seva Dham, Arogya Seva Trust, Mumbai inaugurated a 2-day free Eye Check-up Camp at “Matruchhaya”, (near Menezes Mansion,) New Vaddem at the hands of Hon. Member of Parliament (south Goa) Adv. Narendra Savoikar on Wednesday the 14th January. The camp was held on 14th and 15th January from 9 am till 6 pm. Chief Guest Adv Savoikar in his address, praised the various service activities being carried out by the Lions Club of Dabolim for the benefit of the community. The inaugural function was well attended by the members of the public, initial beneficiaries of the eye-camp and a large contingent of club members who happily volunteered for the smooth conduct of the camp. A total of 750 people residing in and around Dabolim availed the benefit of the free eye check-up camp during which 17 people were detected with Cataracts (to be operated) and spectacles were distributed to 450 of them.

Major (multi-club) Service Activity: Lions Orthopaedic Equipment Bank was inaugurated on December 17, 2014 at Marine Electrical Agencies, Sancoale, Goa. The Bank will be providing some free orthopaedic equipment's on returnable basis like wheel-chairs, fowler beds, etc for post-operative use by needy patients for short-duration. Partnering with 3 other local Lions Club viz the Lions club of Zuarinagar (initiator of the project), Lions club of Cortalim and Lions Club of Majorda-Cansaulim-Velsao.

Lions Club of Dabolim is grateful to our club member MJF Lion Sasindran Nair, for offering free of cost, office/storage space for setting up and running the planned ‘Orthopaedic Equipment Bank’ at his workshop office at Sancoale Industrial Estate. Thank you Lion Sasindran.

Annual Blood Donation Camp One: was held on 29th September, 2014 at 10 am at Institute of Ship Building Technology(ISBT), Sada-Vasco in collaboration with the Blood Bank of Goa Medical College & Hospital. In all 65 units of blood were collected by the Blood-bank. Students of ISBT, some local civilians and some members of our Club donated the blood on this day. Excellent arrangements were made by the Project Chairperson Lion Krishnakumari Nair and her team.

Peace Poster Contest : Our Club conducted the Lions Clubs International  Annual Peace Poster Contest on 27th September, 2014 well before schedule at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s NRB School, at Govt. Housing Board at Upasnagar for the students in the age group of 11 to 13 years. Students contested in drawing excellent posters on the Lions Clubs International theme ‘Love, Peace and Understanding’. Three expert judges from the arts field, one a noted artist from Vasco and two from Panjim had a tough time in selecting the top 10 and ultimately three were selected for prizes to be presented to them on behalf of the Club during the school’s Annual Day. The Selected poster is being forwarded as the Club’s entry to the District Chairperson of “Peace Poster Contest” and District Governor’s office.

Flag hoisting by club members on Independence Day (15th August,2014) at Don Bosco Primary School at Dabolim and distributed Snacks and refreshments to the students. Later in the day, Tree-Plantation of shade generating flowering-plants was done at Govt Middle School at Alto-Dabolim followed by distribution of Sweets & Chocolates to the students.

Fund Raising ProgramReceived enthusiastic support from the public for the clubs Charity Film Show at Shivam, Vasco at 6:15 pm. We were overwhelmed and humbled by the distinguished attendance for the show with family members by the First Lady of the district Lion Jyoti Kulkarni, First VDG MJF Lion Agnelo Alcasaos, Zone Chairpersons Lion Myron Rodrigues, Lion Harish and many other lion members from around Goa. 

Visit of Zone Chairman : Lion Anil K Gadvi, the Zone Chairman of our Zone 1, Region 1 accompanied by Lion Prakash Kamat member from his home club visited our Club on his official visit on 20th August, 2014.

Visit by Region Chairman : Lion Dr. Satish Haldonkar the Region Chairman of our Region 1 accompanied by Lion Kare and Lion Mhapsekar, members from his home club visited our Club on his official visit on 5th September, 2014 on the occasion of Teacher's day.

Felicitation of Dedicated Retired Teachers : Two reknowned retired teachers from our locality, Mr. P.L.Anto retired teacher in Maths Subject, from the Govt High School at Vademnagar, Vasco and Mrs. Celina Furtado retired teacher in English, History and Pschology from Deepvihar Primary School, Sada,  Vasco were felicitated at the hands of our Region Chairman Lion Dr. Satish Haldonkar who was on his official visit to our club on 5th September, 2014. A flower bouquet, Shawl, Shreephal, appreciation certificate and a memento on behalf of the club were presented to the two teachers.

First Blood Donation Camp for the year: was held on 29th September, 2014 at 10 am at Institute of Ship Building Technology(ISBT), Sada-Vasco in collaboration with the Blood Bank of Goa Medical College & Hospital. In all 65 units of blood was collected by the bank today. Students of ISBT, some local civilians and some members of our club came out to donate the blood on this day. Our Club seniors Past District Governor, MJF Ularico Rodrigues and GLT Co-ordinator of the district 317B MJF Sasindran Nair visited the institute earlier to motivate the students & participants and explained the benefits about blood donation, and the end-result was enthusiastic response for blood donation.

2nd VDG Lion MJF V.R.Hiregoudar came on an official visit to our club on 8th October, 2014 and was the chief guest during the observance of World Service Day by the club. VDG inaugurated a Creche/ playschool set up for the children of construction workers at Dabolim and later released 1st Quarterly service bulletin of the club aptly named “Roaring Dabolim”. 2nd VDG in his address to the members, expressed his happiness with the multiple service activities that have been completed by the club in the first three months of this year. The chief guest was deeply moved by the unique project undertaken by the club of setting up a Creche/Playschool for the disadvantaged children and handed over a personal contribution of Rs.5000/- towards providing chairs or any other basic amenities to the children in the creche.

Set up a Creche/Playschool for disadvantaged children of workers on Multiple Building construction site: Visiting Charter President Lion Navdeep Goel of Lions Club of Vasundhara, Ghaziabad (Dist 321C1) who is on deputation on a construction project at Dabolim, Vasco for about 2 to 3 years has associated with our Lions Club of Dabolim Chicolna in announcing a unique joint project for setting up a Creche/playschool for the small children ( age group of 3 to 11 years) of construction workers at the residential colony construction project site of NKG Infrastructure at Varunapuri near Dabolim Airport. Members donated old clothes, shoes, sandals and toys to these students who were wearing torn and dirty clothes. Basic infrastructure, teaching material & board and the shed is arranged by NKG infrastructure under their CSR activity program. Our club organised to arrange a trained lady teacher to take care of these disadvantaged children and teach them to maintain basic personal hygiene and primary level education.

Collection of Clothes from the Students at BVB's NRB School: On the request by the club, the principal of the School Mrs. Elizabeth Valsan requested the class teachers to motivate the children to donate their used clothes, shoes & sandals, but only those clothes which are not torn or worn out. In an unprecedented response, over 400 pairs of clothes, a good number of shoes/sandals were donated by the students for boys and girls in the age group of 3 to 7 years. Teachers of the school and the parents of some students also donated their shirts, sarees and dresses to the construction workers and/or parents of the children in the crèche, smiles and excitement on the faces of the children and some workers while distribution & choosing the clothes from the donated lot was to be witnessed to believe.

Felicitation of Dedicated Service Personnel : On the occasion of World Service day on 8th October 2014, the club felicitated two dedicated service personnel from the community. Mr.Jagdish P.Mhaiskar a retired postman serving the residents around Chicalim and dabolim areas and Mr.Mohan Gaonkar the serving Police Head Constable from Vasco Traffic Cell usually posted at Vasco Church junction were ceremoniously felicitated at the hands of 2nd Vice District Governor MJF Lion V.R.Hiregoudar by presenting to each of them a Shawl / Coconut / Bouquet / Certificate & Memento. Mr. Sudesh Narvekar the Police Inspector at Vasco Traffic Cell, thanked the club for identifying & felicitating his dedicated & hard-working serving traffic head Constable for his exemplary public service.

Release of 1st Quaterly Club Bulletin of Service Activities: Our club PRO and GLT co-ordinator of the district 317B Lion MJF K. Sasindran Nair has compiled & edited the 1st Quarterly service bulletin detailing the various service activities the club has conducted in the community. The bulletin which is aptly named “Roaring Dabolim” was released at the hands of the visiting chief Guest, 2nd VDG Lion MJF V.R.Hiregoudar, and copies of the same were distributed to the dignitaries & guests.

Annual 2nd blood Donation Camp by our Club in association with the blood bank of Goa Medical College and hospital, Bambolim was held this year at the Institute of Maritime Studies, Sada Vasco on 8th November, 2014 at 10 am. A total of 41 units of Blood was collected at the camp, though 53 donors primarily being the students of the institute had registered for donation as they were motivated by the club members in advance. However 12 donors could not donate, due to medical reasons. They were also served sumptuous snacks and refreshments after the blood donation.

Our Club inaugurated a "Reusable Clothes Bank" at Baina Market at the hands of Shri Carlos Almeida, honourable MLA of Vasco, on 30th November, 2014. This Cloth Bank is set up in the rent-free shop premises offered by club member MJF Lion Sasindran Nair. 

Chief Guest in his speech expressed his happiness with the various service activities by the club for the benefit of the community and said that he was very pleased to inaugurate the ‘reusable cloth bank’. He said that he will request the people around to donate their old clothes to this cloth bank and also assured all his help to the club for such service projects in future. The chief guest, handed over clothes to some initial recipients.

Inter-Multiple Club Twinning was held with the visiting members of Lions Club of Trivandrum Ginkgo on 7th December, 2014 at Valentine Retreat at Candolim Goa. An excellent meeting with exchange of service activities report by the two clubs was very successfull event. Attended by 50% of our members, the discussions during the fellowship and dinner were very helpful in planning our future club activities. The entertainment programme with participation by members of both the clubs was thouroughly enjoyed by all.

Volunteering at the Goa River Marathon 2014 an international marathon race conducted by Vasco Sports Club at Vasco, Goa on 14th December. Fifteen of our official Volunteer members and other members managed the organisers 'water station' at Swatantra Path race track from 4:30 am till 10:30 am and provided water, electrolyte and fruits to the runners who had participated from all over Goa, other states as well as from African countries. The organisers as well as the runners appreciated the efforts, commitment, the enthusiasm of the members and the well organised water station.

On the occasion of Lions Worldwide Week of Service, in association with Matoshree Seva Dham, Arogya Seva Trust, Mumbai inaugurated a 2-day free Eye Check-up Camp at New Vaddem at the hands of Hon. Member of Parliament (south Goa) Adv. Narendra Savoikar on 14th January. The camp was held on 14th and 15th January from 9 am till 7 pm. A total of 750 people residing in and around Dabolim availed the benefit of the 2 days check-up camp during which, 450 people were provided with spectacles while 17 people were detected with Cataracts.

The club also conducted CEP for its members on 17th January, 2015 at hotel Z-Square, Vasco. MJF Ularico Rodrigues was the district Facilitator for conducting the CEP. The program was well attended by the members and was successfully completed in a single day in two sessions. The District GLT co-ordinator MJF K. Sasindran Nair informs that our club is the only club in Goa so far which has completed the CEP this year.

The club released on 4th February, 2015 its 2nd Quarterly club bulletin edited by our club PRO and editor Lion K.Sasindran Nair at the hands of Lion D.Kumar Pillai who attended our Club GBM and gave an exquisite talk on “Lionism and being a Lion”.

February being the month for felicitating PDGs, Three Past District Governors from the district Lion Dr. C. Hiremath, MJF Lion Vasudev Valawalkar and MJF Lion Ularico Rodrigues were felicitated on 13th February at 9 pm at the residence of Club Director MJF Lion Subhash Phegade by presenting a shawl, coconut and memento to each by the club PST and members for their outstanding service to the community and continuous guidance, support & help to the club for its various service and administrative activities.

Visit by DC for Lioness Clubs (Mar 2015) :  Our Club celebrated 'Ladies Nite' get-together event at Hotel Z-Square, Vasco during the club's second monthly GBM. District Chairperson for Lioness Clubs Dr.Revathi Rao was the 'guest of honour' for the function and was also the induction officer for inducting a new Lion member to our Club. An exciting and fun-filled games organised by the lady lions of the club together with home-cooked delicious dshes by different lady lions were the highlight of the ladies Nite, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the visiting dignitaries as well as District Governor MJF Pradeep Kulkarni and first lady of the district Lion Jyoti Kulkarni, members and guests from neighboring clubs.

Our club observed the District Governor's month on 31st March, 2015 wherein our beloved District Governor MJF Pradeep Kulkarni was the chief guest . First lady of the District Lion Jyoti Kulkarni accompanied the DG, who was our special guest along with the Guest of Honour DC for Lioness Clubs MJF Dr. Revathi Rao during the clubs celebration of 'Ladies Nite' during the same evening. On the occasion of the District Governors visit, the Immediate Past President MJF Agnelo Mendonsa, DC for Lioness Clubs and other senior club members assisted the District Governor in ceremoniously unveiling the New Club Banner which was received after the change of name of the club to 'Lions club of Dabolim'. An exciting music, fellowship and fun-filled games organised by the lady lions of the club together with home-cooked delicious dishes by different lady lions were the highlights of the "Governor's visit" & "ladies Nite" which was thoroughly enjoyed by the visiting dignitaries, members and guests from neighbouring clubs.

On the occasion of ‘World Health Day’ on 7th April, 2015 a Multi-speciality “Medical Health Screening Camp” was organised at V.M.Salgaocar’s SMRC Hospital at Airport Road, Vasco in association with Lions Club of Dabolim.
The theme of the “Screening Camp” was to examine the patients and create awareness about the various common Health problems that people might suffer silently and enable them to take preventive health care & begin treatment at initial stages.  During the well volunteered medical Camp by the members of Lions club, over 110 registered patients from Dabolim and around Vasco were screened using state-of-the art diagnostic medical equipment for Diabetes & its Neuropathy, Bone Osteoporosis(densitometry), followed by consultation with respective specialists on Eye, Dental, ENT, General physician and dietician
.

Eight Members of the Club participated in the Annual District Convention at Hubli from 25th to 26th April,2015 under the leadership of our District Governor MJF Pradeep Kulkarni and hosted by LC of Hubli. Our Club received the New Charter from the DG, after having changed the name of the Club from LC of Dabolim Chicolna to LC of Dabolim. MJF Lion K.Sasindran Nair received the International Presidents excellence award as GLT co-ordinator, MJF Subhash Phegade received the IP's Appreciation Certificate for being the Ambassador of the District, Lion J.J.Naik received the IP's Pin for being the outstanding Secretary in the District and finally the club received the Centennial Award Banner Patch for the conduct of Vision Screening Camp during the Worldwide week of Service.

Our club hosted the third Zone Advisory meeting of our Zone 1 Region 1 at Hotel Lapaz Gardens at Vasco on 6th May, 2015 at 6:30 pm. Zone Chairman Anil Gadvi along with the members of other clubs in the Zone attended the meeting.

A talk on "Helen Keller - Inspiration of Lions" was given by MJF Ularico Rodrigues to the members during the clubs GBM held on  27th May, 2015 in which he detailed the life and inspirational contribution of Lion Helen Keller after which he unveiled the annual Scrap Book compiled by the club Secretary Lion J.J.Naik.

Providing Lunch/Meal to the inmates at an old-age home: Fifteen of our Club members visited the old age home at Bogmalo, Vasco on 31st May,2015 and provided lunch/meal to the 45 inmates there. Members spent over 2 hours with them, and were deeply moved by the thanksgiving and blessing bestowed on the members and the club for providing them delicious food that day. The cost of food was with the additional contribution of Rs.1000 each by the PST members and rest from the club service activity account. The caretaker doctor at the old-age home said, the inmates are really happy with us as one of their daily craving left in life is to have 'home-made' tasty food and every morning they keep enquiring with the cook as to what is being prepared for their meals. Two of the members sang tuneful English songs for us, one of whom mimicked an air-guitar as his musical instrument. Had a very meaningful, useful & touching service activity in our penultimate month of this lionistic year.

The Annual Zone Social Get-together of Zone 1 Region 1 headed by Zone Chairperson Lion Anil Gadvi was held on 31st May, 2015 at hotel Colva Kinara at Colva, Goa. Members of the four clubs representing zone 1 attended the well organised get-together, wherein they participated in various entertaining group games, sang songs and danced to their hearts content to the selective foot-tapping music. Some of the members who had brought in 'reusable clothes' at the venue on the special request by the Zone Chairperson, handed over the collection to the President of LC of Dabolim. These clothes will be distributed to the needy people through the 'reusable cloth bank' set up by LC of Dabolim.
