Meetings

Christmas 2012

One example of what it’s like to belong to our local Lion’s Club and to give back; how satisfying.  The EMRC Lion’s Club sponsored 2 families for Christmas.  Another Lion and I shopped for 5 children.  You should have seen us.  We were in Kohl’s only had a certain amount to spend with a list of wants and sizes.  We were all over the place.  This little girl was 5 but wore a 7, this little girl was 8 and wore a 6, the easiest to girl to buy for was the 16 month old who needed 24 month size clothes, and last the teenage boy wanted skateboard attire.  We didn’t even know what that was and asked a young man to help us with the name brands.  It was pretty funny.  We get to the register after estimating we probably spent all our money.  We had a $10.00 coupon, a 20% off coupon, and if you opened a credit card you could get another percentage off up to 30%.  Well, a charge card was opened and wouldn’t you know it we got another 30% off!  We had cut the money we spent in half and had the opportunity to add more to each of the children’s list.  We were ecstatic.  So off to Target we went and purchased dolls, musical toys, a CDs and puzzles.  Being a small club (and looking for members) at a time like Christmas you just want to make everyone happy.  One of these families did not have a Christmas tree.  They recently had a house fire and had to relocate and pretty much start over.  It just so happened an agent I work with at Re/Max Signature had a tree to give away but wanted to give it not to just anyone but someone who really needed it.  The email goes out asking, so I picked it up and delivered it.  They were so happy!  Maybe I’m selfish that myself satisfaction goes to helping others but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
