Lions Club of Gold Canyon

The Lions Club of Gold Canyon distributes 100% of fund-raising proceeds to the food bank, Project Help, The Community Alliance Against Family Abuse, The Boys and Girls Club of the East Valley, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Diabetes Research, and America's VetDogs.  Besides support for local and international relief through Lions International, we also provide scholarships for deserving Apache Junction High School seniors, eye exams and eyeglasses for children and adults in need, support to the Arizona Sight and Hearing Foundation, as well as Camp Tatiyee, a camp for special needs children and young adults.  The Lions Club of Gold Canyon has donated to international relief and returned to the community over $288,000 since 2006.

Melvin Jones Fellowship Awarded to Robert Bracki

2018 Melvin Jones Award

Gold Canyon Lion Bob Bracki is awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship for his work on the establishment of the Gold Canyon Lions Foundation and service as club Treasurer for several years.  The other Lions pictured are other Melvin Jones Fellows in the Gold Canyon club.  Left to right: Terry Storbakken, Ray Nelson, Bob Bracki, Carol Grunewald, and Linda Storbakken.

Project Connect

A team of Gold Canyon Lions joined United Way of Pinal County and several other human service agencies in providing Project Connect in AJ for homeless and at risk individuals.  Everything from food, clothing, and blankets to health screening and Social Security support was available.  Our Lions provided vision screening and referral services for several of the participants.

Gold Canyon Lions' "An Evening in Spain"

was another sellout!

Guests were treated to a Spanish-themed dinner, great silent auction items, fun door prizes, a free photo booth, and an exciting Flamenco Dance and Spanish Guitar show.  Some guests even had a chance to demonstrate their own Flamenco dance skills!

Footprints Matter to Us Environmental Cleanup

A hardy team of Gold Canyon Lions braved the dark and cold in mid-January to assist Footprints Matter and Natural Restorations with the 10th annual Evironmental Stewardship Event at Hewitt Station.  This event was also in cooperation with Arizona Game and Fish, Arizona State Parks and Trails, and the U.S. Forest Service.  Natural Restorations reports a total of 282 tons of trash removed from Arizona's recreation and wilderness areas.

Lion Carol Grunewald awarded

Melvin Jones Fellowship

The Lions Club of Gold Canyon awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship, its highest honor, to Lion Carol Grunewald. Since Carol joined the club in 2009 she has served in multiple positions and on several committees. She has been the vision screening coordinator for several years, working with schools and families to screen students, and follow up for exams and glasses for those who demonstrate need.

The Luau was a sell-out!  ...and a great deal of fun for all!  Thanks to all who attended and supported our fundraiser!!!

In 2018 the Lions Club of Gold Canyon enjoyed another great year, and we thank you for your continued support!

The year began with Gold Canyon Lions working with other area Lions to vision screen almost 1,000 school children in our vicinity.  Our Annual White Cane Days fund-raiser was held in mid-November and again in February.  There was a most successful Pancake Breakfast fund-raiser in mid-December.  Our Lions participated in the Footprints Matter / Natural Restorations desert clean-up in January.  Our Lions with the other volunteers removed over 36,000 pounds of trash from Tonto National Forest and Arizona State Trust Land!

We all had a great time at a special event at Flaire! Fashion and Fun in Gold Canyon.  Gold Canyon Lions also provided vision screenings during the Project Connect in Apache Junction in mid-February.  The club's first ever Luau was held in March and was a rousing success
