Each year during the two fall/winter holiday seasons, the Greater Falls Run Lions Club works with school counselors in five schools (Conway Elementary, Edward E. Drew Jr Middle, Falmouth Elementary, Hartwood Elementary, and Rocky Run Elementary) to support area families by providing holiday food baskets.
This year's Thanksgiving Program began several weeks ago, with Lions working together to order food and set up for the event. But we couldn't accomplish our annual program without the schools' counselors! We offer a hearty "THANKS" to them and to the principals for their continued support of our program!
The Thanksgiving Food "basket gang" (Lions Diane, Helen, Mary, Jim, with guidance from Carol) packed food items on Nov. 20. On November 23, GFRLC Lions individually donated the turkeys, hams or vegan turkeys and gather the morning of delivery to finish filling the baskets, this year fully masked and socially distanced!
In total, the food baskets were provided for 23 families, consisting of 39 adults and 60 children. The families were provided a turkey, ham or vegan turkey, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, stuffing, macaroni and cheese cranberry sauce, rolls and pumpkin pie, along with fruit and candy. The largest turkey weighed in at 25 pounds and was provided to the family with the largest number of members!
During the December holidays (Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Ramadan), the same 23 families will be provided another food basket. In addition to food baskets, the GFRLC Lions generally provide wrapped gifts for the children. This year, because of COVID-19, the 60 children will be provided gift cards.

(November 2020)  Lions Jim Purton and Dave Cogley (our newest member!) assisted two Falls Run Community residents with installation of keypads to open their garage doors.  In addition to changing smoke alarm batteries and ceiling lights, the Greater Falls Run Lions Club offers this service to residents.  WE SERVE!

(May 2020)  Your Board voted to provide $1,000 to support this effort which was coordinated by Lion Luehrs (District 24-L Sight Chair and Executive Director of the Foundation Fighting Blindness) and her  daughter, who is a lieutenant in the Naval Nursing Corps. She was deployed to Guam to help care for the almost 1,000 sailors who were sickened with the COVID-19 virus aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt.  The Merrick, New York, Boy Scout Troop 351 and the Northern Virginia Lions raised over $6,200 and hundreds of these personal item kits were provided to the sailors when they really needed it.

Even during a stay-at-home situation, Lions step up to take care of others.  You can be proud that your tireless fundraising efforts have once again enabled the Greater Falls Run Lions Club to touch the lives of people in need.  WE SERVE!

August 2, 2018 our club donated a second Lions legacy park bench to one of our favorite local charities, Stafford Junction. The new bench provides more seating area for the children who are in their designated waiting area for their ride home following activities and learning sessions. The benches we use are made by the Mason Neck Lions Club and they are beautiful and durable. We will be adding a plaque to the new bench soon, watch for more pictures!

August 4th 2018 The Greater Falls Run Lions worked a day long food collection drive to benefit S. E. R. V. E. at Giant Foods on Celebrate Parkway in Stafford County. S. E. R. V. E. stands for Stafford Emergency Relief through Volunteer Efforts. Here is a link to their website.

Here you can see the food being loaded into the S. E. R. V. E. van.
