Collection for troop care packages runs to mid-March 2010

The Hudson Lions Club and the BeLo3rd organization of Hudson are joining forces to collect care package goods to support the troops.

Collection boxes are located at David H Rivenburgh Agency, 1870 Route 9H in Ghent, Todd Farrel’s Car Care, 2-10 Worth Ave., Herrington’s on Graham Ave., First Niagara Bank at the Fairview Plaza, Tanzy’s at 223 Warren St., the Spotty Dog at 440 Warren St. and Vasilow’s Confectionery at 741 Columbia St.

Donations are being accepted until March 15, and will then be given to the local organization Semper Fi Parents of the Hudson Valley. Semper Fi Parents, a registered state charity, will then ship the goods to military personnel.

“If you are able to contribute to this effort, our service men and women would greatly appreciate your help,” a group statement says. “Your participation in this drive in genuinely welcomed.”

Items that are acceptable for donation are as follows: powdered drink mixes, coffee, peanuts, snacks, trail mix, canned fruit, sunflower seeds, beef jerky, candy, foot powder, cheese or beef logs, batteries, helmet liners (knit or crochet), white socks, pajama bottoms, sweat pants, boxers, T-shirts, hand held games, bath and body products, cards, lip balm, hand warmers, DVDs or CDs.
