Our Mission

Serving our community, particularly those in need

  • We serve by volunteering our time and resources to vision, hearing, diabetes, childhood cancer, hunger relief, environment, and youth programs.
  • We serve by financing our community service programs through annual fundraising events.
  • We serve collaboratively with Lions Clubs International, other Lions Clubs, and local organizations.

    Our 2022-2023 Service Area Goals

Vision: (1) During the 2022-2023 year, JC Lions will offer an additional vision service project or collaborative effort by partnering with the Child Development or ARC organizations; (2) JC Lions will increase the number of individuals served through the Vision SPOT screenings by 10%.

Hunger Relief: During June, July, and August 2023, at least 50 percent of JC Lions will participate in delivering meals to at least 225 students 5 days a week.

Hearing: JC Lions will offer an additional hearing screening service project by partnering with the Williamsburg Host Club, such as a screening at a senior community (e.g., Colonial Heritage), CW area, or James City Rec Center.

Environment: (1) Through a challenge to each club member to personally collect soft plastic from friends and neighbors, JC Lions will collect an additional 100 lbs. of plastic per quarter (in addition to the monthly site collections); (2) JC Lions will identify a new location in upper James City County for quarterly clean up; (3) JC Lions will identify a new location for beautification (such as planting a tree or scrubs); (4) JC Lions will add additional members to participate in the seasonal maintenance of the Memorial Garden.

Diabetes: Within 6 months, JC Lions will review 4 potential Diabetes organizations and identify at least 1 that we believe we can support either financially or through a service project.

Childhood Cancer:  JC Lions will provide 8 Ready Bags to 8 children at CHKD who have been diagnosed with pediatric cancer.

Youth:  By June 30, 2023, there will be a 20% increase in the number of high school seniors who apply for JCLC scholarships over the average number who applied in 20-29-2020, 2020-2021 and 2-21-2022.
