Wed. 8/5/15 Club Meeting

From Lion Pat Short,   What’s on our agenda this week?

1.    Induction of new member Jennifer Weiss – make sure to come to give her a hearty warm welcome into our pride.
2.   Our speaker this week will be a representative of Tippecanoe County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).  There was a great article in the J& C recently on the new inductees….all special folks.  What is a Court Appointed Special Advocate?  A CASA is a trained community volunteer who speaks up for the best interest of abused and neglected children in the Tippecanoe County court system. Volunteers speak up for our county's most vulnerable children by being  independent fact-finders, facilitators for change; monitoring the case closely and advocating for the needs of the child. Prospective CASA volunteers must complete an application and participate in a screening interview prior to being considered to participate in training. Training consists of 32-35 class room hours of instruction and also  opportunities to observe actual court room proceedings
3.   Hear about our Shootout-Fore Sight event – learn how being a cheapskate can make you cry!
4.   Come and learn more about our upcoming “Hot Dogs for Leader Dogs” event on August 13 and how you might be able to help
5.   Bring non-food items --- personal hygiene items --- for the Health Hut at the Community luncheon on August 13.
6.   Learn key information given out at District Cabinet and State Council Meetings.
7.   Presentation of club budget (needs your approval) and presidents goals for this year
8.   Vision Screening training and plans for the fall school visits.
 See you all Wednesday!

STAY TUNED

Volunteer opportunity & a chance to find out what the Lafayette Lions are all about. Oh yeah, HAVE SOME FUN!!!
If you want to volunteer this year, contact us. Sign up early and get your 1st choice of slots!

On October 4 and 5, the Feast of the Hunters Moon is held here in West Lafayette. The Feast of the Hunters' Moon is a re-creation of the annual fall gathering of the French and Native Americans which took place Fort Ouiatenon, a fur-trading outpost in the mid - 1700s. It is held annually in early autumn on the banks of the Wabash River, four miles southwest of West Lafayette, Indiana. This reenactment event with militia from all of the country represented is a true walk into the past with foods/trades of the time, amazing costumes, parades, voyageurs arriving at the river landing, entertainment, dancing and of course, tepees and Indians too.  Imagine a cool fall day, leaves turning, the smell of buffalo burgers, apple dumplings and croquignoles and fire smoke rising up through the tepees.  And don’t forget the sounds of the flintlock rifles, blacksmith, the bagpipes, fifes and drums and Native American chants…all magical! If you haven’t been before, come and join us….we dress in costume of the time and have a great time. Check out the Feast at http://www.tippecanoehistory.org/ for more information and pictures.
If you can't volunteer, come by & say hello!
