PRESIDENT’S  MESSAGE

Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 202 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.

Known for working to end preventable blindness, Lions participate in a vast variety of projects important to their communities. These projects range from cleaning up local parks to providing supplies to victims of natural disasters.

Beginning in 1917, the association of Lions clubs has provided millions of people with the opportunity to give something back to their communities. You can view our LQ (Lions Quarterly Video Magazine) on the Lions News Network to see how Lions continue to make a difference everyday and everywhere.

The Las Vegas Philippine American Lions Club was chartered in 2003.  Since that time the club has been involved in many projects that have benefited the community and local charity organizations of Southern Nevada.

For the past nine years, the Las Vegas Philippine American Lions Club has volunteered in many community events such as the Fiesta Filipino, Consular Outreach, Opportunity Village, and many others.  Every year, the Las Vegas Philippine American Lions Club donates money to many local charities. Some of the local charities we contribute to are the Opportunity Village, First Choice, Shade Tree, Safe Nest, Sight First Foundation, Nevada Blind Center, etc.

During the course of the year, the Las Vegas Philippine American Lions Club runs several fund-raising events. Every spring, our Bowling Tournament is always a big hit!  We also donate clothes, blankets, toiletries, and food on a regular basis to First Choice, Shade Tree just to name a few.  All proceeds from our fund raising endeavors go towards Lions Club projects.  Please check us out at our new website: http://e-clubhouse.org/sites/lasvegaspa/

Every year in May, the Las Vegas Philippine American Lions Club participates in the Helldorado Parade in downtown Las Vegas.  This year's parade has 107 entries, including six local high-school bands and great floats from various local organizations.

We work behind the scene by providing our officers and members power to helping people in need, often without fanfare or public exposure. We seek to do these deeds as partners with organizations and volunteers from our community.

As I assume the presidency of this outstanding organization known as the Las Vegas Philippine American Lions Club, I am proud to represent the club in all of its community efforts. The Las Vegas Philippine American Lions Club is always open to community minded individuals who are willing to volunteer their services for the betterment of our community and all those in need.

I encourage all of you to join the Las Vegas Philippine American Lions Club and you will find that we are caring, giving, and well organized club ready to serve the community when the need arises.

As Mother Teresa said, “We cannot change the world, but we can cast a stone across the waters and create many ripples!”

Together, we can make a difference and a positive impact in our community, city, state, country, and the world!

With humility of purpose and gratitude, I am proud to serve!  Mabuhay!

Salve Vargas Edelman
