MINUTES OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
The Madison West Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting at Hy-Vee on June 14, 2023.  The meeting was called to order at 11:00 am by President Rick Daluge.

The following were in attendance: Mike Bosold, Irvin Ehrlich, Vivian Ehrlich, Geoff Hudson, Al Schultz, and Erica Singley.

Minutes of the Business Meeting:

Minutes:  Stand approved as presented. 

Treasurer’s Report: Stand approved as presented. 
Monthly Financial highlights for May: 
• The noon lunches and picnic monthly cost of $295.50 includes a $75 deposit for the Pioneer Park shelter to be used for the picnic.
• All accounting for Charter Night is complete at a final club cost of $113 versus $100 budget. Good job by Judy and Dick to manage this event!
• The charge of $175.67 is for club supplies (a year’s supply of speaker gifts).
• The $110 fundraising income is the collected donations for the Lions Raffle. This will be zeroed out in June when the proceeds are sent to Wisconsin Lions Foundation.
• The $526 is a net disbursement for Ann Seybold donations - total donated was $626 to Wisconsin Lions Foundation.
• We paid BSA our budgeted $200 for their activities. 

July 10th club audit is scheduled and conducted by Lion Al, Judy, Bob, and Geoff.

Membership:
Installment Picnic: Pioneer Park at 5:30 PM (now Monday, July 24) - steaks, paper products, beverages, potato salad and coleslaw will be provided. Please bring something to share – desserts, veggies, chips, buns, etc.  Julie Baglama will be presenting thein installation of officers.

Service Activities:
Scholarships:  3 scholarships will be presented today, and 2 scholarships will be presented in July.

A1C Diabetes testing:  The fourth highest Lion’s International award - International President’s Certificate of Appreciation to Aryn DeGrave, Hy-Vee’s Dietitian will be presented by Jeff Winkler today.

Stuff the Bus: Possible dates will be August 26th from 9am – 2pm. More information to come!

WI Lions Camp: If you are interested in visiting the camp on July 19th, there is room for one more person. Please contact Lion Rick.

The Madison West Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting at Hy-Vee on May10, 2023.  The meeting was called to order at 11:00 am by President Rick Daluge.

The following were in attendance: Mike Bosold, Irvin Ehrlich, Vivian Ehrlich, Geoff Hudson, Arthur Polans, Linda Reivitz, Al Schultz, and Erica Singley.

Minutes of the Business Meeting:

Minutes:  Motion made by Lion Al and seconded by Lion Art to approve the April minutes.

Treasurer’s Report: Motion made by Lion Art and seconded by Lion Vivian to approve the Treasurer’s Report.

Monthly Financial highlights for April: 
• The club cost for Charter Night ended roughly at $140. This is mainly the meal cost for 3 Leos and the District Governor.
• Total monies collected for a memorial for Ann Seybold were $536. This will be donated to Wisconsin Lions Foundation to support the Lions Camp in honor of both Lion Fritz & Anne Seybold. 

Membership:
Lore Syndor has been approved, has been transferred to MWC in LCI, and added to the Club roster. Welcome Lore!

Installment Picnic, Pioneer Park at 5:30 PM - steaks, paper products, beverages, potato salad and coleslaw will be provided. Please bring something to share – desserts, veggies, chips, buns, etc.  The deadline to sign up to attend is at May’s meeting.

Lion Vivian and Geoff with be attending Member and Board Training on May 20th. Anyone can attend this training so please let Lion Al, Rick or Erica know to get signed up.

Service Activities:
Scholarships:  Memorial and Edgewood has selected great candidates with high GPAs, volunteer hours, etc. Lion Geoff will be contacting the candidates around 17th or after the school’s awards ceremony.  West’s ceremony will be on the 25th but have not received the candidate’s name. We are hoping to invite all scholarship candidates to our next meeting to honor the 2023 Graduates and their achievements.

Anderson & Shapiro Health Fair:  On April 15th, the first health fair took place due to Wisconsin laws changed allowing us to provide glasses to individuals! Anderson & Shapiro, with the help of LEBW, provided a free vision screening and eyeglass fitting for people over the age of 14. For children under 14, Lions from Madison area clubs were on hand to provide free vision screenings and for those who receive a referral. We had vouchers for a free exam and glasses from ShopKo Optical stores in the Madison area. 19 vouchers were provided, and 120 adults were provided glasses!

WI Lions Camp: Lion Camp for Kid Raffle tickets are available to purchase at $10. Please contact Lion Al if you are feeling lucky!

Vision Screening:
Lion Peg was not able to get into Hickory Hill at this time and will revisit the screening in the fall. Queen of Peace has been contacted as they were interested in doing the screening in the spring.

The Madison West Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting at Hy-Vee on April 12, 2023.  The meeting was called to order at 11:00 am by President Rick Daluge.

The following were in attendance: Godwin Amegashie, Mike Bosold, Irvin Ehrlich, Vivian Ehrlich, Geoff Hudson, Pat Malloy, Arthur Polans, Linda Reivitz, Al Schultz, and Erica Singley.

Minutes of the Business Meeting:
Minutes:  Motion made by Lion Art and seconded by Lion Linda to approve the February minutes.

Treasurer’s Report: Motion made by Lion Art and seconded by Lion Linda to approve the Treasurer’s Report.
Monthly Financial highlights: 
Most important transactions in February include:
• Sold $4,900 of stock and transferred the proceeds to the Activities Account (for future payment of scholarships)
• Donated $100 to Cycle for Sight
Most important transactions for March include:
• $220 for noon meals was used to help defer cost of Charter Night
• The current cost of Charter Night is $499, but still collecting member payments to reduce that cost.
• Administrative cost of $150 includes cost of new banner stand $105 ($70 toward this was already credited in February representing donations by Geoff and I) and $50 gift card for Scott Grover for assistance with Eye Screening
• Made donations of $1,700 to Wisconsin Lions Foundation and $500 to Lions Eye Bank at Charter Night
• The current (3/31/23) investment account report shows some gains in stock valuations such that despite the almost $5,000 sale of stock in February we are still slightly above our beginning of the Lions fiscal year balance of $64,669.

2023-2024 Officer Slate: The Slate was voted on during the Club meeting. Motion made by Lion Dick and seconded by Lion Godwin to approve. Motion carried.

The state convention will be State Convention at Stevens Point. Lion Rick and Peg will be attending.  If anyone else is interested in going, please let Lion Rick, Al and/or Erica as soon as possible.

To honor Lion Fritz’s wife, Anne, the club will be collecting donations to purchase a memorial block in the "Wall of Honor" at the Wisconsin Lions Foundation. Please send all donations to Lion Al in the next month.

As the 2023-2024 term begins, we will need to review and/or create a budget that focuses on community service and financial contributions to increase membership.

The new Senior building next door to Hy-Vee does have a community room to have an event but the residents are now just moving in. We may need to wait a couple of months yet to do a presentation.

Service Activities:
Scholarships: The budget is for $5k – three scholarships for $1k to each school and the remaining will go to the three Senior Leos that did a great job holding the Club together during Covid. The 3 Leos will be receiving less than previous years.  Motion to increase the Leo Scholarships to $750 each, and increase of $250, by Lion Al and seconded by Lion Geoff. Motion passes.

Transporting Cornea(s): March was our month to be available to transport corneas. We want to thank Lion Geoff Hudson (2 runs, plus 1 local run), Lion Vivian and Irvin, Lion Peg Daluge (1 regular run, 1 local run), Lion Godwin Amegashie (2 runs), Lion Rick Daluge, and Lion Pat Malloy (2 runs).  Also, a special thanks to Lion Irvin for the 51 dispatches he completed during his last month.

Lion Irvin will be stepping down from his Dispatcher role since 2011.  If you are willing to take on the challenge, please let him know as the club will need a back-up dispatcher ready to go by March 2024 then will be the primary dispatcher only once every 18 months.

Vision Screening:
Lion Peg is confirming the Hickory Hill vision screening for April 18th & 19th at 8:30am.

Second Harvest: Anyone interested to volunteering at Second Harvest for a Club event? Please contact Lion Rick if you would like to participate as we had a lot of interest at Board and Club meeting to sign up for a 3-hour shift before the fiscal year ends.   

Lussier Community Education Center: If you would like to donate food, there is a link on their website to the “wish List” https://lcecmadison.org/eat/pantry/. Please let Lion Erica know about your donation to report you contribution as a club activity.

The Madison West Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting at Hy-Vee on February 8, 2023.  The meeting was called to order at 11:00 am by President Rick Daluge.

The following were in attendance: Godwin Amegashie, Mike Bosold, Vivian Ehrlich, Geoff Hudson, Pat Malloy, Al Schultz and Erica Singley.

Minutes of the Business Meeting:
Minutes:  Motion made by Lion Al and seconded by Lion Mike to approve the January minutes.

Treasurer’s Report: Motion carried to approve the Treasurer’s Report.
Monthly Financial highlights:
• Dues collection from club members.
• Payments made to International, State and District dues for the second half of the year.
• Expenses of $317 associated with delegate attendance at upcoming District and State Conventions.
• Paid $245.13 for the new batter.
• Collected $270 from vendor for gumball sales.
• Donations from Robb Besteman and Dale Bruhn totaled $550
• Our gain on investments in 4th quarter of 2022 was about $5,500 to total $67k in the account.

Charter night is set for March 16. Lion Al will apply the $11 monthly meal expense toward the meal/room charge. Room charge is roughly $4 per person currently.

The district convention will be held March 10-11 at the Marriott hotel. Lion Rick, Peg, Vivian and Erica will be attending.  Lion Rick nominated our club for the Service Project of the Year award for the Hy-Vee Diabetes Project, with mention of the other clubs who helped. 

Service Activities:
Brat Fest is requiring an IRS determination letter as a 501c3, which the Club is not. And they want a minimum of 20 hours that includes setting up and taking down. Motion to approve by Lion Vivian and second by Lion Al that we will not participate in Brat Fest because the Club does not meet legal requirements as 501c3. Godwin objected as he thinks we should communicate why we will not be participating this year.

Lion Goeff & Godwin made a motion to donate $100 to Cycle of Sight and add it to the budget so we do not have to vote on this every year. Motion passes.

Transporting Cornea(s): March is our Club’s month for transporting. Please let Lion Irvin when you are not available to help. He will be the dispatcher this month so anticipate some calls!

April 18th & 19th - Hickory Hill at 8:30am
Scott Grover has been volunteering to help our Club with Vision Screening. Lion Mike made a motion to give Scott Grover a $50 gas card, Lion Geoff second. Motion passes.

Madison West Lions Board Meeting – Sprechers

October 12, 2015

Call to Order: 5:35 p.m.

Present: Randy Krantz, Geoff Hudson, Dick Kraemer, Judy Nicholls, Robb Besteman, Al 

Schultz, Pat Malloy

Presentation: A representative of Brand Bumps made a presentation of what that company is 

doing to sell advertising on panels that are installed at crosswalks to guide the visually impaired. 

Secretary’s minutes: Approved upon motion by Dick Kraemer and second by Geoff Hudson  

Treasurer’s Report: Bob Cottingham was absent but reported to Randy that everything was OK

New Business: 

Vision Screening - Geoff Hudson report

o At the 9/14 training a number of members (Randy, Geoff, Bill, and Kay) were recertified 

on a new preschool screening tool which gives more accurate results; Geoff just did 22 

kids in 50 minutes which is twice as fast as wall chart; Geoff purchased the materials 

necessary to do this type of screening.

o On October 7th Geoff, Jane, Linda and Vivian were certified on the PlusoptiX tool

o Prevent Blindness coordinates a lot of the screenings – Geoff and Vivian are helping out 

at two in October; several opportunities to assist in November

o There are 5 Shopko vouchers that have not been used   

Possible new member – Randy and Rick are working on a prospective member

Charter Night

o 37 members and spouses signed up 

o Upon motion by Geoff and second by Dick the club approved payment for the meals for 

the speaker and his wife plus the two Leo representatives

Speaker schedule - Geoff has the following commitments

o Dec – Jim Lattis – UW Space Place

o Jan – Roberta Sladky- Olbrich Botanical Gardens

o No photos currently on home page of supplier web site 

o Orders are due November 20th with delivery on Monday, Nov., 30th

o No chocolates are to be distributed this year for sellers

Bucky Books – sales are behind about 10 books compared to last year

Leo Advisor – no progress yet to get help for Tessa

Eyeglass pickup – members are filling in for Ed Ream while he recovers from surgery
